Excellent food!

My husband and I went here to celebrate his new job and the food, ambience, wine list, and service was excellent! Which of course means, a very expensive bill. But you get what you pay for at La Foret. We both had the same thing - the smaller tasting menu. After laughing at the single ravioli we both received, we both enjoyed it very much. Followed by single scallops, and then a seared ahi tuna, quail, and beef filet. All of which was serviced to us happily and with an explanation of the sauces and ingredients used.
The wine list was excellent and the dessert was a mouth watering creme brulee in a small chocolate bowl with vanilla ice cream underneath.
The location is up and out in to the Alameda hills a ways and the restaurants sits on top of the creek. Pretty scenery but not as good as Shadowbrook in Capitola.
This was definitly a once a year adventure for us. We love our food and wine but would rather put our money toward a house than dinner and alcohol. A good selection for a romantic dinner, or celebration of some sort.

Lovely

I went to La Foret for prom and made reservations the week before. Upon arriving, we were promply seated with a fantastic view next to the window. (We even saw horses). The meal started with warm bread plus butter, and an appetizer (which changes from day to day) of saumon en croute to wake up the palate. The tasting menu I ordered was absolutely delicious; especially the tournedos de boeuf chanterelle and scallop on puff pastry. Although their specialty is game, their seafood is prepared quite well. The waiting staff is very attentive, serving every course at the perfect time and refilling our glasses before they were half empty. The mini souffle grand marnier is a MUST have, and should be ordered at the beginning of the meal because of its 30 minute prep time.

Best Restaurant in San Jose

Great ambience, romantic, and delicious food. We love everything here. Their sauces are great, their souffles are wonderful. We love everything about this place. yes its is pricey but it is worth it compared to the other fine dinnings. We like le pappillon too but this is by far much better.

A San Jose Gem for Fine Dining

A beautiful ""house"" setting amongst groves of trees and a creek. Excellent service. I've never had a bad dinner here. An absolute MUST: Order the grand marnier souffle at the beginning of your meal. It takes a while to prepare, so if you think of it after the meal, it's too late. It's to die for, so even if you are full, make room for it!!

The staff was excellent, the manager seemed to have a slight attitude, but we did not have to deal with him too much. Wine list is very fairly priced with a pretty good selection. The buffallo was a bit too peppery, but the foie gras and lobster for appetizers were great. Great for large groups.

Great Place for a date

This is a great place to go for a special occassion. The atmosphere is very romantic and very beautiful place inside. Service is great. Try their special of the day. I had their Buffalo and it was great. Dinner and service was great but expect to pay about $150-$200 for a dinner for two. A must try.

Don't Get Lost

If your not familiar with the nooks and crannies of San Jose, getting there might be a challenge, but once you find it rest assured the food and the ambience at night are impeccable. The escargot, tournedos of beef with cognac sauce, and desert combination make it work the drive.

wonderful food

Went here for my 40th birthday. It was quiet, elegant, & delicious! Meats were done to perfection, everything was yummy. I'll go back when I have more money - it's not cheap. about $200 for the two of us.

A special restaurant for us...

We were married here in their beautiful garden area by the brook so of course we've dined here many times. Brunch is a fabulous value. Many of the same entrees are available at lower prices, PLUS they serve a fruit and cheese platter and pastries.

We have always had great service, although I do think they have lost some of their better staff a few years ago. Valter was particularly attentive.
