Plain and unsympathetic

If you like lukewarm and uninspired food, homeless folks pawing at your grub, wait-list customers crowding your table, and a waitress who dismisses your courteous after-dinner suggestion that a table not be located where this all happens, this is the place for you. There's too much competition for diners' dollars in North Beach to put up with this.

Not up to standard.

Had dinner at Sodini's on a whim since it is my maiden name. My parents owned restaurants in Marin County and San Mateo County for over 35 years. No way would I like to take credit for the food at Sodini's (my parents would have not appreciated the food). The service also was not up to par. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Old School North Beach

Setting foot in Sodini's felt like taking a step back in time to North Beach circa 1960. The decor made it feel like a set from Goodfellas, it was great. But the best part of Sodini's is the food. The food was some authentic North Beach italian fare and the wine was great as well. The service was good but nothing to get excited over. Sodini's is a very small restaurant and they do not allow reservations so I would recommend coming early so you don't have to wait in the small bar area.

Love the decor

I've past by this place a few times but never made it in. So I had a craving for Italian and thought I'd check it out. I love this decor. It's something out of an Italian movie - very campy. Sinatra/Martin/Davis Jr. memorabilia adorns almost ever corner of this place and I loved that. The lights were dim, the tables were covered in red and white tablecloths and the booths are red.

There's also a small bar when you first walk in. Most likely you'll be having a drink there while you wait for your table too. They don't take reservations and they place seems packed every time I've walked past it.

Staff is friendly, place is cute, and the food althought generous, is so so. I'd go back, but not for a long while.

Favorite restaurant in North Beach!

This family Italian has great atmosphere- more of a locals place than a tourist spot. In fact it seems that very few tourists know about it, thankfully, as it would be even harder to get a table. There are also a lot less screaming kids throwing food everywhere from their high-chairs, like you would see at the Stinking Rose or other Columbus street restaurants. Most of the waiters have been there for years, and they really keep it in the family. The food is fantastic- especially the gnocchi and ravioli and also the very good pesto sauce. This is also a really fun place to meet friends. Parking can be tough, but there is a parking lot across the street.

Great little restaurant

If you are looking for a place that is not full of tourists and is not all about the hype of the other restaurants in North Beach this is your place. Sodini's has great service and great food. The bartender is fun and attentive. The wait staff is also very pleasent and attentive. I spilled marinara sauce on my white sweater and before I could say anything she already had a class of club soda for me. The food was awesome. Lot's of pasta choices. Everyone I was there with loved their food. I will be taking my out of town visitors here!

strong staff, weak food

Went to SOdini's on a whim the other night. The wait staff and bartender are extremely nice and helpful and attentive. The place had a real family ambiance. BUT... i love italian food and being italian perhaps i don't like when it is 'americanized'. The salad dressing was over garlicky and too much, the linguini with clams was in a cream sauce instead of wine sauce or tomoto sauce, the pesto sauce had no flaver and the past was douced in it. The chicken piccata was over breaded and drowning in oil. Italian food is simple and should remain so. This was overdone and I'd never go back. But i must say, the staff were a delight.

The place to go in North Beach

I've been going to Sodini's for over six years now. Always a great experience for a date or a few friends. Forget Colombus street, this is where it's at.

Been a Favorite Since I Moved Here

After only about a week of living in San Francisco, I stumbled upon this restaurant with a friend and absolutely loved it. Three and a half years and many San Francisco restaurants later, this is still by far one of my favorite restaurants in the city. The food is amazing, the atmosphere is great (really quaint feel about it - not touristy), and the people provide excellent service. I take almost all my out of town guests here and try to make it in as often as I can. They do not take reservations, but you can hang out at their bar or at one of the millions of bars within a few feet of the restaurant until your table is ready.

shown the light by friends ...

due to a major misunderstanding of my friend's rating of sodini as ""ok"", i've avoided dining here for quite some time. however, upon my friend's insistence a group of us went last night and i've been enlightened to her ""ok"" that translates to my ""great"". the sodini experience is meant to be shared family style with many partaking in the numerous savory fare. one of my favorite dishes, the pepper steak, was only enhanced by dipping it in the tortellini cream sauce. in fact, my plate resembled an impressionist mélange of colors with taste. only downside was no dessert.
