Business Description
Saha is owned and run by husband and wife team, Mohamed and Marmee Aboghanem. Marmee leads the front of house and wine selections while Mohamed's expertise is the food. The dishes are a unique blend of traditional Yemenese Arabic cuisine and barrier pushing California cuisine. Mohamed hails originally from Yemen, the southern tip of the Arabian peninsula. After leaving as a young man he traveled extensively through Europe embracing the traditions and flavors of the countries of his travels. Finally settling in San Francisco, he began working at some of the most upscale restaurants before opening his own cafe, and now his own restaurant. Marmee has experience in the hotel and restaurant business and is cultivating a deep knowledge of wines. She is becoming an expert in recommending good pairings. The dishes at Saha are a reflection of the creative combination of the chef's native Yemenese upbringing and his yearn to explore and embrace the delicacies of the countries he's traveled to and adopted as his home. Only the freshest ingredients are used, and there is a large variety of vegetarian options (and even a few vegan ones). The team at Saha also strives to use the best in environmental practices, using biogredable take-out containers, and non-toxic cleaning products. Most of the food prepared at Saha is organically grown when possible. The quality of the food is of the utmost importance, and the name of the restaurant, Saha, which translates as, "to good health", is taken very seriously. We invite you to relax and go on a culinary exploration with us. Saha!

One of the best meals of my life

This was the best Middle Eastern meal I've ever had (and I've been to the Middle East).

In fact, it may be the best meal I've ever had. Definitely top 5.

The service was great. Our waitress was casual and fun, but really on top of her game, always there when we needed her and able to recommend her favorites. She actually seemed to be having fun at work.

Every dish that came out had our mouths celebrating in various surprising ways. Complex and unusual flavors abounded and there was so much great vegetarian stuff I wanted to go back the next day.

Sadly, the bill came to more than $100 (for two people, including appetizers, drinks and dessert). Worth every penny, but we just couldn't afford to do it again.

Best of everything!

This is a true jewel among restaurants in SF! The Chef is a master of spices. The flavor of every dish was very well balanced but still had a nice exotic touch, very interesting for ones taste buds! The decoration on the ceiling and walls creates a very warm atmosphere. Staff is extremely attentative and friendly, they will explain everything to you, as there may be a few things that one may not be familiar with. Make sure you make a reservation. It is a must while in San Francisco!

Located in the lobby of the Carlton Hotel where the wife and I were staying, we couldn't help but smell the wonderful aromas each night going up to our room. After a day of sightseeing we were too exhausted to leave the hotel so we thought, hey why not try Saha. We made an 8pm rez thru the Hotel and they sat us right away even though the place was pretty full. We started with a cabbage special that the waiter recommended, it was a cold appetizer that had rice, tomatoes, onions over a yogurt sauce...fantastic. So was the lamb and the vegan tofu special. If you crave unique middle eastern fusion food, go here, in fact stay upstairs the Hotel Carlton was pretty good as well.

Fusion Fantastic

I've been to this restaurant a few times for dinner and I always come away with a delighted palette. It really is fusion food and while some of the flavors and ingredients are common to Arabic food, it is more of its own thing than anything else. 95% of the dishes are complex, beautiful, and fresh and include a lot of local ingredients. The meats are cooked perfectly and the zaatar is good in any of the plates they serve it with. I was surprised to see the ""free glass of champagne"" note on this site. I've never been offered one... However, the staff are all very pleasant. If you order ""S..p Yo Mama"", be patient so they cook it well. It is a fab desert but the phillo was very undercooked when served to us. Don't ask for the explanation of the origins of the name...

Warm is the word that comes to mind when describing the food, the staff and the setting.

A wonderfully unique blend of deliciously prepared food and a warm welcoming staff in a comfortable romantic setting. Everything is slightly exotic. I really appreciate the delicate hand used to introduce a delightful array of herbs and spices. Nothing is too strong or over powering. The names of the dishes might be a little confusing but the descriptions are clear so that's how I order. Saha is one of a kind experience that you owe yourself.

Saha -- little gem in the Tenderloin

We went to Saha as part of a charity event, wanting someplace both romantic and new to both of us. We weren't disappointed. Saha has a lovely dining room with great lighting and a Moroccan sort-of theme. The food was delicious -- and we love small-plate dining and they had great variety in their small-plate menu. We were salivating just looking at the menu. We especially enjoyed the prawns in rosewater. They did a great job with fusion of fresh ingredients and mediterranean styles. The only downside is that we seemed to have been forgotten after receiving our meals (perhaps because of a large party at another table). However, the staff was so friendly and in general so attentive that they were quickly forgiven for their oversight. We can't wait to go back.

We split the foulel appetizer, a fava bean puree that included onion, tomato, garlic and peppers, served with warm pita bread - outstanding. i chose the Moroccan couscous with winter vegetables, spicy merguez sausages and a ramekin of cooking liquid and chile-infused harissa. My wife ordered the chicken breast marinated in orange juice, cinnamon, sage, honey and lime. It was initially pan seared and then gently roasted. Her entree was served over a couscous cake with an orange cinnamon sauce - fantastic flavors.

We will definitely go back!

My husband and I went to Saha with a few friends last week. It was the first time for all of us. We all loved it and couldn't stop talking about it! We ordered salads, small plates and desserts and shared everything. Every plate had delicious & interesting flavors. Portions were good for the price. The bill came to $30 pp (out the door - including tip)! We all ate very well that night. The service was very warm and friendly! We will definitely be patronizing this restaurant again!
