Great chill quiet indian food spot in the lower part of haight

Delicious vegetarian options. Great friendly staff every time I have gone. Recommend the aloo gobi and the biryani rice. The food came out cool once and they had no issues with reheating it for us so we could enjoy it. Give them a chance, they have always come through for me

I love Indian food and was excited to eat here after viewing it on a local restaurant review tv show. I left feeling like a rube for eating there.
I didn't mind that the portions were ridiculously small because we couldn't eat what was delivered to our table. It was inedible.
Curry Grant/ chicken curry = 3 small pieces of RAW (pink/red) CHICKEN in a soup of boring curry sauce.
Nan = 1 cold & dry piece - no chewiness
tamarind & mint chutneys were watery & bland
The vegetable pakora was greasy and small
We ordered the Chopra okra mild b/c I'm pregnant & keeping it mild to medium for now- it came spicy - so spicy that it tasted flat.
The waitress noticed that we didn't eat much of the little food that was delivered to our table so asked sheepishly if we wanted to order more dishes - ""how about desert?"" We thanked her & asked for the bill.
The service was ok.

Avoid this place

Not the best Indian place in town! What a place not to dine on a Friday nite, Saturday nite or any other nite. We waited 20 minutes for the menu's, waited 25 minutes for them to take the order and then waited a full 60 minutes before our food arrived. The chicken tika masala, was all sauce with 3 pieces of chicken, the price $10.00! We ordered Aloo Gobi, they had run out, they sent out masala pumpkin...? Chicken Kariahi was all masala again with 3 pieces of chicken, the price 10! We ordered Lamb Birayani, they served us Chicken, the rice was white rice with chicken masala sauce and the rice was half cooked. I'm sorry to say, we will never visit this place again or recommend to our friends. PAKWAN on 16th & Valencia has more VALUE for your money and the FOOD is fantastic!!!

Favorite Indian Resturant

This is my favorite Indian resturant in the city. You can actually taste the difference in each dish. The best part is that"" it NOT greasy"" when compared to other indian resturants. we order atleast once a week and each time the taste is consistent. I really really like thier samosas and thier vegetarian dishes and Aloo naan. SSSSSoooooo Good. oh don't forget the's complimentary.
I wish they had more ventilation in the dining area, it gets a bit smokey and congested.

Good Indian

This place has good Indian food - nothing spectacular service or food wise but it is a solid effort. Food is not too spicy which suits me just fine

good food and good price

Food was tasty, quickly served at reasonable price. Decor is mod and fun. Great place to go with friends or a casual evening out. Good service.

Best Indian/Pakistani Food! Just Like London!

If you want a memorable meal you should order the following:

- Chicken Tikka Masala
- Karahi
- Allo Gobi
- Daal Maash
- Plain Rice
- Plain Naan
- Aloo Naan

The flavors from these dishes compliment each other so well that your taste buds will love you. Unlike most restaurant meals, these dishes have their own unique flavor and texture but end up being just the right pairing--like gorgonzola cheese spread on a slightly tangy green apple. Trust me. Once you have this meal, you'll be craving it at least weekly!

Avoid lamb tandoori !

I ordered their tandoori lamb chops + nan: was disgusting ! Cold, tasteless, lamb was not tender at all !
I was and I'm still very disappointed.

Casual atmosphere with great service!

We showed up at 7:00 on a Saturday night with no reservations, and the place was empty! A little disappointing, but our experience made up for it! The atmosphere is bright and casual, and the service was fantastic! We brought our 2-year old, and the staff was VERY accommodating and friendly. Ordered garlic naan, veggie pakora, curries, chicken tikka masala, and all was good. Not fantastic, but very good. There is a liquor store across the street, and Rotee allows you to bring in wine with no corkage fee. We would go again!

Hands down the best Indian Cuisine

No joke, this place is very very good!!! So good I yearn it, I smell it in my dreams, I drool just thinking about it (drip, drip...see I told you). My absolute must eats are the chicken tikka masala, Daal Gosht, Aloo Palak, Garlic Naan and the Mango Chutney. The food arrives at your table piping hot in very shareable portions. The service is swift and very welcoming. The kitchen is out in the open so you can see the chef prepare the food and see how fresh the ingredients are.

Best chicken tikka masala!!!

Best Chicken Tikka Masala. It is so delicious and makes my mouth water just thinking about it. The parking is very trying and can make you just give up but don't do it. The parking challenge is worth it. Seat yourself, there should be menus on the table and if not, grab one at the front counter. When you're ready to order, head up to the front counter and order your food. You pay for your food after your meal. The price is about $8 average per dish.

Good Delivery Option

After discussing with friends their favorite Indian neighborhood restaurants (Haight/Western Addition/TL) and reviewing a few places online, we decided to get food delivered from Rotee. Had a little bit of trouble ordering over the phone as their menu strays a bit from traditional Indian fare (mostly in the name of the dish) but the mgr. happily got on the phone to complete my order.

Food was good but not great, could have been spicer for my taste eventhough I asked for Spicy. Garlic naan was pretty sorry and the accompaning sauces runny. I always hate to see meat on the bone in curries (both the chicken aloo & the special lamb had it) cuse the bone to meat ratio is so high, you don't really get much meat. I rather go vegetarian than meat in this case.

Overall I'd give it an 8, price was fair and we have some leftovers : ) Next time though, I will consider walking down to Indian Oven for take-out or ordering from Tandoori Mahal downtown. I'm still on the fence about which restaurant delivery is best for those last-minute Indian food cravings...?

After reading the cute menu, I just had to order from this place. There is a bit of a minimum for delivery. The aloo roll is the Indian version of the falafel. Although I asked for it without cream, the aloo muttar was heavy and sweet with huge pieces of potato. If I needed Indian, I'd order from here though I'd look elsewhere first...

I never knew Indian could be so bland!

Honestly, I have never eaten indian food that needed salt and pepper. The food was plain; it had that ""missing something"" flavor to it. And that is simply unacceptable. And no kashmiri nan? C'mon!

Ive been to many including naan n curry and the one in the TL which i forgot thier name. But rotee is by far the tastiest. I simply love thier chicken masala and the aloo gosh. ( i hope im spelling them right.) Anyways, im out here once or twice a week. Anyone who says different needs to get thier heads examined. 3.9 from the last poster?? Dude, your a moron!! Lamb was perfect for me.

This place is NOT a 9.3

I think Citysearch transposed their numbers when listing their rating for this place. It's far closer to a 3.9 rather than a 9.3. We ordered a couple of lamb dishes - the meat was so tough, only a chainsaw could have penetrated it. The samosas we had for appetizers were feeble at best. Only visit this place if massochism is your thing.

I have to say thanks to Ish and Shawn at the alibisf crew fo taking me to this great place. Why you ask? Besides GREAT food, price, and service,...

1. Free Chai Tea
2. Dont you hate it when restraunts DONT have your favorite beverage? Bring your own tasty beer or fav fruit wine, the owner charges 'NO CORK FEE'
3. The owner is there all time making sure the food is cooked correctly, your sure to meet him; great guy!
4. He plays really good vibrant music; no radio music.
5. The food comes fast.
6. They deliver!

Chicken Masala and Naan bread together is amazing!
Taste it for yourself!

Rotee used to be okay when it first started. However, the food has been deteriorating steadily since. I live very close to the place, and drop by occasionally if I am too hungry to walk more than a block. But after my last trip, I think I've had enough!

In the last visit, the okra was lacking salt, the aloo naan had almost no aloo at all, the lamb tasted bland (it is very hard to make Indian lamb bland), and the chicken tikka boti was totally lacking flavor. I had to put salt and lemon on everything to get any taste..

I do like the ambience, the owner(s) are friendly, but if you want decent Indian/Pakistani food, then there are much better places around!

Look at the number of Indians you see in this place. None! May I say no more...

We're new to indian food. i know, it's hard to believe. We went there with seasoned india-food-o-philes to ingraciate us to the menu. We've been back everynight since! The TIKKA MASALA Sauce is ADDICTIVE! I don't eat meat... they made a bowl of sauce just for me, AND made a boti wrap with the onions, naan & that sauce... not on the menu! Soooo accomidating! So friendly and nice. The plain naan is only $1. Even at Rainbow Grocery- the naan is $2.59. You can't beat their prices! The lamb biriyani is great (according to my meat eating boyfriend) and he always gets the chiken tikka masala. So great! My only problem is that they don't open till 5pm... LOVE IT!

this place sucks

if you have ever eaten at a good Indian place then you would know the difference.
this is safe, not spicy, not flavorful, not dynamic, but safe food that caters to the audience it wants to attract. go there for boring, not much flavor, Indian food.
not what indian food should be.
