nice decor, pretty cool environment, lousy food!
the food is way over priced and is not all that great at all. i feel like they think they can be rude and over price the food because they think guests will come bcak just for the decor of the place. boy were they wrong with me.

It's really fun for kids...if you're near all the action. If you're in the back...it's just another over priced resturant. The food is fair.
One MAJOR piece of advice.....ONLY use cash. Soon after we left the place my bank called to ask if I had just made a $2,500 purchase. I may just be jumping to conclusions, but my card was out of my site for a good while as I waited to sign the bill.

Our family has been there many times in the past few years and never had a single issue. The service was good and food was fresh and delicious. Not this time.
We arrived there 10 minutes prior to our reservation time and were almost immediately taken to a table which we did not like. Asked the waitress to get us a table in Jungle Room, which is a more privet, if you will, part of the restaurant and were told no problem, just wait for 10-15 more minutes. After nearly 40 minutes of wait we were finally taken to our table. To our surprise the table was not in the room where we wanted and which we spent extra time waiting for. Being that all guests( party of 12) already spent 40 minutes just to get sited and to avoid spoiling the occasion that brought us there in the first place (my son's birthday and mother's day celebration) we decided to let it slide.
Took another 25-30 minutes for the guy to bring us our drinks. Specifically ordered drinks to be low on ice but even that did not help. It looked and felt more like a $9 glass full of ice cubes.
Our food arrived another 45 minutes later!!! Cold!!!
Not only that, they managed to screw up two of the orders and had to go back to the kitchen to bring us the right stuff.
All in all 6 different dishes were ordered from their menu and every single one, was BAD.
The BBQ pork ribs that I would always order there and which would slide right off the bone before, I had problem scraping off with my knife. The lobsters and shrimps that were in other dishes tasted like plane rubber and the medium stake was so hard you had to use your muscle power to slice it.
My son's burger was so dry that he barely finished half of it.
Even worst is that my wife's Mahi-Mahi dish made her so sick she spent the whole night in the bathroom.
Our overall experience was so bad I will not recommend anyone to go there.
I don't know what happened with this place in the last few months since our last visit there but that's one restaurant of my list of favorite places in this city.
P.S. The staffing that day was more then plenty and restaurant capacity at 75% at most so I know for a fact, poor service was not caused by not enough staff at hand.
As for the kitchen nightmare one could only wonder.

Visited on a Monday afternoon before the lunch rush. There were only a few tables occupied. My water glass was dirty and had to be replaced. The sides were cold and fries were added to an entre when my guest specifically declined them. I will not be returning. Some restaurants think they can get away with poor quality and service because of their location.

Sad to say that Rainforest food that I ordered taste like frozen. I ordered Chicken Fried Steak for $17.99, I mean the price is was too much. Root Ber cost $3.50 a bottle. I could have gone to Alioto's Restaurant for lunch menu and have ""Sauteed Shrimp Garlic with Butter Lemon Sauce for only $13.85, plus a decent place with spectacular view of Golden Gate Bridge. My advise next time is to check around the area for Lunch Menu, then decide where to eat.

Please do not go this hole in the wall. It is absolutely garbage. The food is horrible and service is bad. All this place seems to do is salty frozen Costco with ranch dressing. Just like every other wharf restaurant add some ranch to make it delicious to tourists.

This is a fun place to take guests or a big group. The larger-than-life foliage, aquarium tanks, moving jungle animals, and periodic lightning shows are fun and make the meal memorable. The menu is HUGE with tons of options, most pretty tasty but not unbelievably great. There is also an extensive drinks menu. Because there is so much seating and big tables, this is a great place to go with a bunch of people, or even with a bunch of rowdy kids (it's already loud in there). The location on Pier 39 means a lot of fun touristy things are within walking distance.

I often take visiting out of town guests here simply because it's a fun place to go. The quality of the food is really hit-and-miss...some menu items are tasty (such as the crab cake sandwich...which, as of last month, was no longer on the dinner menu) while others are just blah. You are paying for the scenery and not much else. But unlike the reviewer before me, I've never had a problem with the service and never waited too long to be seated. I guess it all depends on who your server is -- perhaps the work ethic for the 20-somethings is not as high as other generations when jobs are a dime a dozen.

We waited so long just to order and when that food took forever, we ordered an appetizer. Even the appetizer took a long time. Children receive a special $2.99 rate for each paying adult on Wednesdays but the restaurant will charge for every little thing and not disclose that it's extra. For instance, after you order for your child, the waiter will ask if they want fries, apple sauce etc. you assume its part of the meal, it's not! Also be aware that those beverages add up & children's drinks are extra! A family of 4 adults and 2 children can expect to pay around $150 and this is on the family discount night, when children get the $2.99 deal! They will tack on a 17% gratuity for parties over 6, so you may not get good service but will be forced to pay it anyway.

This place is a FABULOUS getaway. You forget you're in the city. You will be swept away by the amazing atmosphere...the thunder & lightning, shooting stars, gorillas going crazy, elephants stomping and roaring jaguars! Don't forget the HUGE fountain in the restaurant and the massive salt water tanks of LIVE tropical fish!
You'll definately enjoy this getaway....and the food....DELICIOUS!
