A must order - Shanghai soup dumplings!

A must order - Shanghai soup dumplings! (it's under the dim sum section as oppose to the dumpling section on the menu).

Hail to your King of Dumpling

As soon as I opened the door, I was cheerfully greeted by the owner.

""Xiao Mei Mei Huan Yíng Huan Yíng!"" (A very literal translation - little missy, welcome welcome.) The language was familiar yet foreign. I suddenly remembered it was actually Chinese New Year's Eve. What could be better than a festive Chinese dinner?

I took a quick glance. There were only 6 table. A very tiny hole in the wall restaurant with an unassuming storefront indeed. I joined my friends at one of the three larger long tables. The menu was very simple. There were all kinds of dumplings and a couple cold dishes and appetizers.

Our dinner menu for 6 -

Grilled Lamb Skewers
Green Chive Pancakes
Cold Wide Bean Noodles
Shanghai Style Soup Dumplings (XLB)
Pork Dumpling with Napa
Pork Dumpling with Chinese Spinach
Shrimp Dumpling with Chive

Lamb skewers were great. It was golden brown on the outside and tender and juicy inside. The fillings for pork and shrimp dumplings were all quite tasty. They were not as delicate as I would like though. (The skin were thick) The Shanghai Soup Dumplings (XLB) were disappointing. They were overcooked and the soup already leaked out. A big no-no for XLB =(

I enjoyed my CNYE dinner. It was a very satisfying meal for the price.
