A kosher meat market in the bay area-not an easy business!!

I find the service pleasant, mostly Russian Jews who are not that comfortable with American style of service. I can overlook it-their intention is to be helpful.

I find the actual meat to be quite good-they will order anything I want (short ribs, lamb, roasts, etc) and have it for me to pick up. I like the butchering-thickness of chops, trimmed meat.

I lived in NY where I had 20 kosher markets in a radius of 15 miles (the size of a small Safeway store where EVERYTHING in them was kosher with a reliable hechshir).

So, Israel's may not be the best kosher butcher I've been to-but the service, quality and the prices for kosher meat are certainly the best we have in the Bay area.

I for one do not want a kosher business to close, so I support them.

What kind of a kosher market with meat doesn't have soup ingredients???

Every time I go there they don't have soup chickens in stock. Even worse, they never have pupuk (gizzards) or other organ meats which is the only way to make the best soup. I asked today if they simply have necks and backs. They don't have that either. Once, they offered me a pound of legs to make a soup with a turkey neck. Sorry, folks, but that's not real chicken soup. The folks behind the counters are kind of surly, too.

I now go elsewhere.
