I came here with my two sisters and had a blast; I will definitely take my boyfriend here. Parking is tough in the neighborhood, so I suggest you do the valet service- it's only ten dollars (we were there on a Thursday, don't know how much it will be on the weekend). Definitely make reservations because it gets really busy. Although inside was very nice, we sat outside and it was great how they had heat lamps for when it?s cold- but I only suggest you eat outside if it's NOT WINDY. Also, the restaurant is set on a little hill- so it felt a little funny sitting slanted and all. But after you drink some wine, you won't care! Monday through Friday they offer the pre-fix menu for only about 30 dollars. You get soup or salad; choice of appetizer and main course. It was great!!!! Everything was very flavorful- but don't expect the portions to be big, I thought it was perfectly sized. But that shouldn't matter because you already get a little full from the salad and appetizer all to yourself. What was really fun was watching the Brazilian dancers dance on the bar. Our waitress was very nice to us but she seemed to lack at the end with giving us attention and service. But other than that, I totally recommend this restaurant. Go here for a great atmosphere and delicious food. Great place to bring your close friends or romantic partner.

My wife, son and I were walking in North Beach and as we walked past this restaurant it looked nice. The hostess, Lenha, was very courteous, after chekcing with the appointment girl they told us that without a reservation we could only stay until 8:30pm, it was 7:45 so we decided to go in, thinking that we may be in for a pleasant surprise. The waiter seemed like he was having a bad day since we started, he took more than 5 minutes to show up. In the meantime we looked around the place and at other patrons, no menus, nothing else except wait and hold our hunger. After the order was placed at around 7:55, at 8:25pm our 3 year old son asked me with great concern why it was taking so long to bring his spaghetti? I just wished the manager would have been present to hear and see his comments, I could not have reflected the situation better; nothing came to our table until 8:40pm, the waiter apologized and said that our tickets somehow got misplaced, a $10 dessert was on the house; nice gesture. The bus boys were very polite and courteous, (managers take note for development, area of opportunity). The spaghettini was good, and so was the rib eye, I have had much better for much less, but I guess rent is high, portions are hearty and taste healthy, meaning not heavy with grease or fat. There were other dishes that looked great, like short ribs and one that looked like a pumpkin. I would like to go back to have a second opinion and make a more balanced judgment, a bad day cold happen to anyone and it would be unfair to make an opinion based on the afore mentioned circumstances. I would go again.

Went here on Saturday night and spent over $200 on food and wine. It was obvious from the beginning that my server (Sepideh) had every intention of rushing us through the meal. Pouring the full bottle of wine out instead of just serving appropriate portions and leaving the rest on the table was the first sign. Telling us that we ""should order now because the kitchen is really busy"" was another sign. We were still looking at appetizers. Dessert was interesting. Getting the bill and having her check it for money before the dessert even arrived was pretty rude. She then stood in the doorway outside watching our every move. We paid to get her off our back and it was confirmed that she didn't really care what kind of service were received as she snatched it up, dropped it back off and walked out the front door with a ""good luck"" from her friend. I know about working in a restaurant and needing to get somewhere afterwards, but damn. The busers were much more kind and attentive. They deserve her job.
The chefs know what they're doing and the food is good, but it's way overpriced.
I've been here before, but this was the last time. There are much better places to eat in North Beach.

My Boyfriend and I went there on a Friday night, we are from Nashville, and did not have reservations. We were seated immediately, at the bar where you could see the cooking. What a treat, the food was great! We ordered the ahi tuna appetizer and the scallops... The tuna was nothing special but the scallops were a meal within it's self. We shared the Marggrosa salad, it was very good with a citrus mint dressing, yum!
For the entree we shared the Veal shank, it too was prepared very well and was a great compliment to everything else we had ordered.
Would definitely go there again. Italian, spanish...mixed well

My best friend and I came to Manga Rosa on a Thursday night to see ""The Samba Dancers"". My friend had been here before and said it was a good time, which was completly true. We ate the manga rosa salad, the polenta, The Veal and the Prawns in the pumpkin..Great dinner! The waiter had recommended everything and we took his advice. Overall I would say it was one of the best dinners we have had in SF...The food took a bit long but that is expected on a busy night..Good service, great food, amazing dancing...

i'm never going back.
my brother and i took our parents there for a celebratory dinner and the service was terrible. they were inattientive and their heads were really not ""in the game"". when they finally brought us our missing cutlery after our food was sitting and getting cold, they decided that it was a good idea to reach across our plates (and our food) to place them. there was only one request that was not standard (no onion in the spinach salad) and they couldn't even get that right with no apologies given when it was all piled very conspicuously on the edge of the plate. for a party of four, they assumed an 18% gratuity when they originally stated that they could not add the tip when we asked. considering the service this was way more than they deserved & thier assumption of 18% was presumptuous to say the least. after all that, the food was just okay.
i'm never going back.

This was the best birthday ever! My girlfriends and I had dinner here about a month ago and I was really impressed. I told the waiter Mark I would mention him on here because he was that good. He brought us shots for my birthday and put a candle on the shot glass. It was so cute, We got a really awesome picture. The food was amazing, Mark took care of everything we asked him to bring out his favorites and so we could share. Normally I would expect the waiter to bring to much food but he brought the right amount. Very professional and the food was Ab. Fabulous. You should try the Parks Cab. it was the best red wine I've had in years, I had the ahi and polenta together as my dinner, SO GOOD! MUST MUST TRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is very pretty inside, a place that anyone would take a romantic date, and that is what I did. And I don't mind spending good money for good food, but the service was a little cold, and even though the food looked pretty good, there wasn't a lot of it and there was really a lot of salt. Actually, I was a little embarassed for my date, and on top of it after eating I felt really bloated from the salt - if someone had pulled my finger it would have flattened everything between there and Broadway - not a good lead in for the rest of the evening, that feeling. Though it really is a pretty place - it would still recommend going there for a drink - you're probably safe if it comes from a bottle there. There are other places if you want a real Brazillian flavor, though.

I had a fun experience at Mangarosa...I'm half Brazilian, so I was very excited of bringing a few friends to celebrate my bday. We started having the famous Caipirinhas! It was a little disapointed because the drinks were way too sweet and huge! We couldn't get a 2nd one! So I tryed the Brazilian Cosmo and it was deliscious! They make with premium cachaca instead vodka. Super. We were served by a Brazilian waitress - a sweetheart and very attentive. I wish I remembered her name. She helped us to get just the right food. I had the gnocchi....hummmmm! the best. The cheesbread melted in your mouth. My boyfriend had the hearts of palm salad - very refreshing!
The negative think...while we were waiting for our table, this blond woman, which I dont know if was hostess or manager...was very rude with the staff. I couldnt help wonder, what kind of person was that?
The place was full and she was almost yelling at the poor server or buser. No excuses for that!

I was really excited to have my birthday dinner at this restaurant - but was overall, very VERY disappointed and the night ended in tears. The food was just ok. The service was dismal. And on top of it all - my camera was stolen right off the table! My party had just exited the building when I ran back to the table... and it was gone! We were seated in a secluded back area, so I know it wasn't a fellow diner. Three months later I am still upset by my experience at this restaurant. Putting things in perspective: my 12 guests were wonderful - ordering numerous cocktails and full meals, however, our waitress was non-existent and seemed bored. The food was rather dull despite the Italian/Brazilian flare promised. Needless to say, the meal and experience was not worth $60+ each person spent. I felt terrible for my guests! And just sad that, on top of it all, I had a very valuable camera with irreplaceable pictures stolen.

The service is great. Definately make reservations if you're going on a weekend- like any place in the city! We were promptly seated and our waitress was great- very helpful. Their valet parking is nice- I hate looking for parking in North Beach! My husband got the flank steak which you cook yourself at the table- it was delish! I had the prawns which was ok...tasted a little blan. The yucca fries are ok...a little oily, same with the calamari- a little too oily- and not enough calamari. The brazillian cheese ball taste like giant gold fish crackers, in a ball bread form...it was ok, but not really cheesy enough for my taste =) My husband and I both got mojiotos but was a little too sweet- he sent his back and had them 'fix' it so it was so sugary, the waitress and the bartender were very nice about re-making his drink, but again...it was very sweet! Overall, the service is great- food was ok- ambiance is nice. I would go back if I were in the area.....

Wow! I experienced Mangarosa on Saturday evening for dinner and drinks. I absolutley fell in love with the ambiance and the customer service was excellent. Not to mention the best part, the food! So delish! I started my meal with a warm spinach salad with these incredible mini polenta rounds! Then I had the risotto with prawns, the flavor was unsurpassed, I craved it for dinner last night! To top it all off I had the Mango creme brule and a cappucino, I was in mango commatose for the whole night. So, so, so amazing and worth every penny. We even broke a wine glass and they cared more about our safety than the fact that there was broken glass all over the place! Go to this hot spot and enjoy yourself, you will love it!

YEAH for Mangarosa! I have yet to dine in North Beach and walk out saying---damn that was good...WELL I can say it now! EVERYTHING we tried was DE-Licious! From the Mangrarosa mojita (with Remy Red, coconut rum, muddled limes & mint--damn!!!) To the damn tasty brazilian cheese 'bread' really they are 6 small little tasty biscuits. The mangarosa salad with butter lettuce, dried cherries, fresh mango, candied walnuts, cambozola cheese w/mango & lime dressing was perfectly balanced. The seared boneless chicken w/balsamic was perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The sides of yucca chips and creamed spinach were great additions. The service was GREAT!!! I wish I got our servers name --I'd ask for him again next time I come back (and I will)he was super friendly and knowledgable! But from the hostess to the bartender, to manager...everyone seemed to go out of thier way to make sure all was going well---and this was during the north beach festival! MUST TRY

My wife and I just got back from this restaurant. I went as a result of the ratings on CitySearch. I followed the comments by getting the Gnocchi($17), Brazilian Steak($30), Yucca Fries($4) and Cheese bread.($6) We also ordered a bottle of the Manara Amarone 2001.($72). I know that it sounds like a lot of food, but we couldn't finish the food.
We started with the cheese bread. They were round gooey cheesy bread that were quite savory. You just have to get them. They are so popular and matched perfectly with our wine.
By the way, our wine was so elegant. Every time my wife took a sip, she would comment on how awesome the wine was. Expensive... yes. But very much worth it. We ended up buying 5 bottles over the Internet when we got home.
My wife and I are somewhat spoiled in that we've been to quite a few of the finer restuarants in the area such as the French Laundry and Manresa so we have a spoiled taste palet. When we tried this food, we were floored with excitement to have found such a great find. The Gnocchi looked baked or grilled.. yet it melted in our mouths. On rare occasions, I have a dish that forces me to stop and savor the food. This Gnocchi did just that. The Brazilian steak was great because I was able to grill it on a hot plate at our table. The Yucca flour, bacon bits and pico de gallo condiments for the steak were an excellent pairing with the slices of meat. Adding the Yucca fries was a good call. I've never tasted Yucca fries as good as these. The Lemon Aioli sauce was delicate and refreshing with the Yucca fries.
In retrospest, I'm just not sure how good the meal would have been overall had it not been for the magical pairing of the Manara Amarone and the meal. They blended in a way that we just couldn't stop talking about all the way home.
We plan on going back on a regular basis. We're not rich. But this was worth it.

I live in the area so I'm definitely biased to my north beach jewels, but this is one of my favorites. The atmosphere is superb and the food and drinks are definitely worth returning for. I've went a handful of times and always try something different, each time leave very satisfied. Great place for a date.

I've been wanting to try this place for a while and finally did. I wish I would have started coming here ages ago. The atmoshphere is great, I took my boyfriend here for his birthday. Dark and very romantic with candles and beautiful decor. The menu is creative and everything we had was very yummy. Our waiter was friendly and accomodating, they knew it was my guys birthday and brought him a sweets and desert port at the end of the meal. Definitely will be returning!

I took my husband here for his bday on a Friday night, the food and wine menu was great and service was excellent. We sat outside and with the heaters it was very comfortable. We had the gnocchi and a steak, both were awesome. I would definitely come back.
