About Search Results

YP - The Real Yellow PagesSM - helps you find the right local businesses to meet your specific needs. Search results are sorted by a combination of factors to give you a set of choices in response to your search criteria. These factors are similar to those you might use to determine which business to select from a local Yellow Pages directory, including proximity to where you are searching, expertise in the specific services or products you need, and comprehensive business information to help evaluate a business's suitability for you. “Preferred” listings, or those with featured website buttons, indicate YP advertisers who directly provide information about their businesses to help consumers make more informed buying decisions. YP advertisers receive higher placement in the default ordering of search results and may appear in sponsored listings on the top, side, or bottom of the search results page.

Heirloom Cafe

Special. Simple. Superb.

This place was a delight from start to finish. Reservation was easy to make as was honored right on time. The room is simply done - comfortably contemporary update on a traditional space with a massive open kitchen that is seen but not really heard. Menu was somewhat limited but contained entrees and sides made from the freshest of local ingredients. A prix fixe dinner was offered that paired each course with wines. It was very fairly priced. We went with salmon and a cheeseburger (!) instead. Cooked perfectly, absolutely fresh. Sides were gnocchi and zucchini soup. The gnocchi were absolutely one of the best things I've ever tasted. Once again, perfectly seasoned and cooked and clearly prepared with absolutely fresh ingredients. Delicious. We did our best to savor the very special meal. The owner was on location and was clearly sweating the details. If you are interested in a very delicious take on local fresh ingredients served simply but perfectly, this is a good place for you. Priced very fairly - at the level of many lesser dining experiences in the city. It was terrific.

You will be hard-pressed to find a better LOCAL SEAFOOD spot in San Francisco!

Go ahead, try to find a better spot. And IF (note that I didn't say WHEN) you do, come back and respond to this review, and I promise I will give your recommended spot a fair shake. Date / date-night? This is your spot! Just the two of you... this is how your evening will go (for the most part): 1. Wait for a seat outside, with some free wine as the fog rolls in (iconically San Francisco) 2. Move inside as the wait time diminishes; enjoy more free wine in a warm ambiance 3. Get pleasantly surprised as your name is announced, and you walk over to your table with your wine-glasses that were topped off only recently 4. Order off the special menu, or the regular menu; they will cook to order too! You can't go wrong with anything. Trust me. I have had everything on their menus. 5. Beyond this, what you do, is entirely up to you. But make sure to thank Pacific Cafe for an excellent start to the evening...

Mums House of Shabu Shabu

What a great place.. all you-can-eat Shabu Shabu for $24, and all-you-can drink added on for $40.. How can you beat this.. Well the negative to this is they have a 2 hour time limit in place. Which seemed like a big deal, but after the first hour and a half, I had to move my bowl away from me in order to not pass out from being so full. mmmmm.. meaty goodness. I went with a group of 8 folks, all got the Shabu Shabu special and ordered various drinks instead of getting the all-you-can drink option and the bill was like $320, so I guess it works itself out. My bigest complaint is that the bathroom is located downstairs and thru the Lobby of Hotel Tomo where this restaurant resides. I mean Hotel Tomo is cool and all, but with all the liquid consumption, my bladder and the long treck to the bathroom, it took away from valuable meat eating time.. Times a ticking.

this is one of the best finds in the city! good food, friendly staff, the right prices, in a beautiful space overlooking washington square in north beach--what's not to like? great coffee from their awesome espresso machine starts a delicious breakfast (the bennies from heaven are just that...). great spot to sit outside with the pooch on a sunny day with a sandwich or salad ( the turkey and bacon on their own foccacia, or the arugula with beets and goat cheese are my faves), or dig some live music at night with a fine, fine pizza (paradiso, purgatorio, inferno....this place is in the dante building, get it?) or the prix fix dinner (four courses, $19) or some excellent bistro type specials. excellent wine list, friendly, neighborhood service, very sf in a timeless way.

Firewood Cafe

A good neighborhood place.

This review is for the location in the Castro. I make that point because some of the others seem to be for elsewhere. We love Firewood Cafe. For us it is just a few block's walk. The pizzas are terrific, the pastas are good. This is a great alternative to cooking for yourself. Salads are large and really good - just be careful if you are dieting because it is easy to commit extra calories. Be aware that at this location you order from the register, then find a table and they bring you your food when ready. So service is fine (if minimal). Come prepared to eat and leave - this is not a place to linger over your table. Someone else will want it soon! So we recommend this place for an easy home cooking alternative that is priced reasonably well.

This was my favorite bakery of...

This was my favorite bakery of all times for years. They had THE BEST tiramisu, and everything else was quite equally yummy as well. I would not dare eat anyone else's tiramisu because no other could compare. However, ever since the original owners sold the place to new owners, their pastries and cakes are not as amazing as in the past. I use to go there every week, but unfortunately, I don't find as much incentive to go anymore as the quality and taste have declined. I just can no longer justify the extra calories and fat.

I stopped here with the hubby for lunch on a sunny Sunday afternoon. It's a small place, but oh so lovely. A very quaint neighborhood gem. The food was good and service was awesome. Super friendly staff and atmosphere were worth the stop here alone. We had the fried chicken and waffles with Mac and cheese and green beans. Everything was hot and fresh. The lemonade was excellent. You don't find fresh squeezed lemonade much anymore so I would definitely get that again! The reasonable pricing was icing on the cake!

Everything Great, Except Finding the Entrance

Relatives from So. Calif. took us to dinner at Zuni for our 50th Annv. The restaurant was recommended to them by their very good friends from Sacramento. We had three different items from the menu and found that in each case the food was excellent as was the service. Our only problem was finding the entrance (no signing on Market St.) since none of us had been there before, but now we know. Will we come back to Zuni? The answer is YES. Would we recommend this restaurant? YES. SWS, San Francisco

Cafe Algiers

Cheap, fast, quality food served by nice people

I work a block away and must frequent Cafe Algiers 3 times (at least) a week...and I'll keep coming back because even when the line extends out the door, I know I'm only 15 minutes away from a well portioned, deliciously simple sandwich for under $5 dollars. But most days, I can make a run to Algiers and be back at my desk (:() in 10 minutes. My favorites are Turkey & Avocado on ciabatta w/ cucumbers and Chicken Salad w/ pickles on ciabatta. The staff are very friendly and efficient!

Everything Must Change

Nothing remains the same and so on. I used to love this cafe. It was so refreshing. We used to walk or take a couple of buses from Twin Peaks just to go to this cafe. Friendly, fun, relaxing and all together the right take on an Internet cafe. But then it sold- new owner, new ideas. I'm not faulting them. It's their place they should do what they want. But it's not the place I loved and would walk more than a mile to end up at and I'm sorry for that.
