Just like the planning that went into your vacation, there is planning needed before boarding your pet. Here are some dos and don'ts to help make the process a little easier.
Remarkable - The hidden jewel in So. Cal. pet care. We recently encounters a medical problem with our dog Peaches. The unexpected cost associated with her medical condition caused a great deal of anxiety and Dr Dhillon (and staff) picked up on my emotions and took every possible step to ease the burden. They offered multiple solutions and went above and beyond to ensure that Peaches got the much needed medical treatment. Dr. Dhillon we as far as to follow me to the parking lot to express his concern for Peaches and took extra time to make sure that I understood all financial options. In the end, we were able to proceed with the surgery and received treatment which far exceeded the money spent. Dr. Dhillon requested that we contact him multiple times, late into the evening, to give him updates on Peaches' recovery and offered comforting reassurance as to how she would progress thru her next few days of recovery. Additionally, he asked that we contact him, first thing, the following morning. When he sensed that my wife was reluctant to force feed medications, he suggested that she bring Peaches in where he again went above and beyond. Noticing that my wife was emotional, the requested that she leave Peaches with them for 1.5 hours and they made sure that she received the floods, food and medicine she needed. Less than 36 hours after her surgery, around 8:45pm, I received a 3rd follow up call from Dr. Dhillon personally. I was happy to report that she has progressed much faster than I expected; but right on the timeline he projected. She is at 70% of her normal self and I have EVERY confidence that she will be at the 90% Dr. Dhillon expects when we wake up tomorrow. I can honestly say; I have never seen anyone so passionate about their patience or customers. To know that Dr. Dhillon often works 7 days a week (after 25 years in his profession) and accepts calls from 7:00am thru 10:00pm is nothing short of a passionate Dr. who is a Godsend to any pet owner within driving distance of Black Mountain Road Pet Clinic. Above and beyond any customer service that we have ever experienced. The facility was very clean & organized, the staff were very accomidating, polite and compassionate. From the minute we walked in, for an unexpected surgery on our dog, until she was 100% recoverd; they continued following up and educating us every step of the way. It was clear that our pet's health was their number 1 concern....
I have been taking my dogs to Dr. Dhillion for the past eight years or so for various reasons including neutering, routine vaccines, allergic reactions, ear infections, and on the going treatment of my epileptic dog. Dr. Dhillion has a solid foundation of knowledge and years of experience in the veterinary field. He always clearly explains all charges and gets consent before proceeding with anything. You can opt to decline any treatment or procedure. If your pet has a problem that Dr. Dhillion feels is beyond his scope of his expertise, he will refer you to a specialist for that particular problem. The prices Dr. Dhillion charges for services and treatments are fair. His clinic is clean and well maintained. Having a sick and beloved pet can be very stressful and can lead to some unwelcome vet bills; however, pets are living, feeling beings who get sick and need medical care just like we humans do! Pets give us unconditional love and joy and are deserving of the dignity of competent medical care when they are sick. If you are going to be upset that you have to pay for veterinary care when your pet becomes ill, it is best that you not have a pet! In addition to the good care Dr. Dhillion provides at his clinic, I will also mention his assistant, Sarah. She is an excellent adjunct to his practice. She is cheerful and very knowledgeable regarding many animal issues. Anytime I call for refill medications, she is always very prompt and reliable in having them ready on time and goes out of her way to accomodate me. I will also say that this veterinarian is very available when you need him and has after hours calls. Animals do seem to have a tendency to get sick after "business hours!"
Did you give a written list of things you wanted to be done by the vet? If that was done, I'm sure they would have followed what you wanted and called you if they found something different. I don't have any problems with this vet and I know they present an estimate for services. Did your friend know what you wanted the hospital to do? Did your friend tell anyone how much was authorized to spend? How can you blame a hospital for doing their job? If you did have a list of things you wanted and gave them to the hospital in writing then yes, I think it warrants some discussion. I know that after an exam sometimes what I want vs what is wrong with my pet don't always match. I went in for a neuter and they found that my dog didn't have two of what they needed to neuter him and the surgery to find the other one cost more than a routine neuter. They presented me with an estimate which included pre-surgical bloodwork and a microchip as I didn't think of that and they educated me on the reason why people should microchip their pets and have pre-surgical bloodwork. It turned out that my pet has a problem with its liver and they needed to do their anesthetic differently because the other way could have given my pet some difficulty. I don't know the medical terms but I was shown the bloodwork and saw the high values so I'm glad that I took their advice and had these procedures done. I don't have DVM after my name and I have to trust that the Doctor is doing what is in the best interest of my pet. I love the service that I received at Tierrasanta Veterinary Hospital and would recommend them to anyone.
Dr. Dhillon has been our pets' vet for about ten years. He runs a small clinic, so I feel that the service is very personalized and since he is the only doctor on staff, my pets always have a consistent experience. The office is clean, the assistants are always really nice and most importantly, everyone handles and treats my pets well. For a year or two, I tried getting my pets' shots done at a large-chain pet store because it was a little bit cheaper, however I quickly came back to Dr. Dhillon because I realized how important it was to see the same doctor in the same office all the time. Each year, my pets come to the same building, wait in the same exam room, see the same people and smell the same smells. It makes them less nervous during their routine visits, and in the event that they get sick, it will be important that my pet knows the doctor and that the doctor, in turn, knows my pet. Dr. Dhillon also offers extended, emergency on-call hours, in case we really need him outside of regular office times. In the past I have had experiences with veterinarians who handle the pets like they are farm animals, pinning them down and not seeming to notice or care whether they are scared or uncomfortable. Dr. Dhillon is extremely gentle. Yes, at times he has to do unpleasant procedures on the pets, but he definitely demonstrates care and compassion. I really trust Dr. Dhillon and so do my pets. He offers everything I value in a veterinary clinic.
I'm sure it's no surprise that my pet hates going to the vet, but what a relief to find an animal hospital that is so dedicated to making your pets experience as pleasant as possible. They never separate you from your pet and I was able to stay within "save me" range the whole time. No taking pets behind closed doors like other places I've been too. If you are looking for a veterinarian that goes above and beyond, look no further. They offer after-hour services for any emergency and will not hesitate meeting patients at the clinic rather than making them go to an emergency center where they know nobody. It is so reassuring to know that if I need them, they will be there for me. I feel like they go out of their way to accommodate my schedule. I always get the appointment time I want. They go out of their way to make everyone feel equally respected and cared for. I've seen client favoritism at some of the other places I've been, and I really appreciate the extra effort they make to avoid that here. It was very easy to get an appointment. They have a very flexible schedule and get me in quickly every time.
I have always had a really hard time leaving my dog with someone I don't know, but as fate would have it I needed to attend a seminar for work. While taking my dog to the dog park in Ocean Beach I over heard some people raving about this so called dog kennel in Bay Park. As I mumbled under my breath I would never leave my dog at some compound.... So I didnt have a choice, no one could help me with Oliver, I broke down at the last minute and gave the Golden Paw a call 2 days before I had to leave. Luckily Oliver had all his shots and they had availibility. I had the red eye on Thursday and I worked all day had to pack and the best part is I got to spend time with Oliver and drop him off right before my red eye to New York. The ladies were so great and very professional. I was blown away, Oliver stayed in a suite with a web-cam and TV. As nervous as I was I got to see him before I went to my seminars and even when I got into the Hotel. The Golden Paw by far Oliver's new home away from home...
** The Best Vet in Town ** You never know, when getting a new pet, how often you will need to visit your Vet. Like our children, our pets need medical care at all hours for all sorts of reasons. And finding a great Vet for our Pets is like finding a great Dr. for our children. This last month has been a trying month for our puppy Kobe. He was bitten by a rattlesnake on the mouth 3 weeks ago. We rushed him to Dr. Dhillon at closing time and he took amazing care of our Kobe for several hours past closing without even a complaint. Thankfully, Kobe survived. Yesterday, Kobe was hit by a car ( I know, it has been a brutal month). We rushed him to Dr. Dhillon again, at closing time, and he immediately took control and care of our dog while showing such care and compassion to us as we were a mess. My Kobe is going to be o.k, lets just say, he will be an inside dog for a while. If you are looking for the best Vet in San Diego, with the best staff, please take your Pets to Dr. Dhillon, he is simply amazing!!
We have been so pleased with Dr. Dhillon and Black Mountain Pet Clinic we would strongly recommend them to anyone who loves their pets. Our cat of 9 years was sick and Dr. Dhillon met us at his office on a Sunday morning. After tests we determined that our cat would not get better, only worse. What a difficult time it was for our family and Dr. Dhillon took the time to patiently explain what was happening several times so we could make a decision we were comfortable with. We even received a phone call from the doctor making sure we had all of our questions answered. Only a month later our other cat got sick, again the doctor met us after hours, 8 p.m. on a Saturday night, to evaluate our cat. He gave us a phone call later that night to make sure our cat was okay and wanted me to call the next day with an update. I felt and know he truly cares about us and our pets and that this is not a job for him, but his passion and purpose. I feel very grateful to have met him during such a trying time
We have been taking our boxers to Victoria for about 3 years now. She is amazing. Our dogs love going to Victoria's, so much that they never want to come home. There are no such thing as kennels there. I love the idea that they won't be held up in a kennel all day, infact, they are welcome to roam the house, sleep on whatever doggie bed they choose or lounge on their own couch in their play room. Frequent walks and trips to dog park are extra benefits when you take your dogs to Victoria. Even though they get plenty of exercise playing in the back yard and throughout the house with the other dogs, they still get to go to the park! They are on a constant vacation and they love it. The only tough thing is coming to pick them up and they aren't so happy to see you, getting them from her house to your car might be the toughest part! I would highly recommend Victoria for anyone is looking for the perfect place to take your dogs while going out of town, this is the place!
I moved to San Diego from Boston about a month ago and was really worried about how my 3yr old rhodesian ridgeback was going to adjust. I really lucked out when I found out my neighbor, Craig, owns his own pet care business- he has been a life saver! He has taken Louie in with his pack and takes him to the beach and the park regularly. Louie always comes home happy and exhausted- just the way a pup should be! Being Craig's neighbor, I see him interact with the 6 dogs in our complex (the tan dog crew) as well as with the dogs he cares for on stay-cations at his home and he is truly a dog whisperer! He treats each dog as if they are his own, carefully following feeding and medication instructions and ensuring that the dogs get plenty of play time and cuddles! I'd highly recommend Dog Tired to anyone who wants the security of knowing their dog is in GREAT hands!
