If we paid full price, I probably would have docked another star. The website we booked through had this room listed as $165 per night over the memorial day weekend. We jumped on it being that most other downtown hotels were upwards of $200 for the holiday. My business partner and I spent Thurs & Fri night there with not too many complaints.However, after reading a few reviews on a couple sites, I still am unsure why they don't install full shower doors. The entire bathroom is tiled. Toilet and shower are separated by a glass partition. The partition doesnt fully stretch the length of the shower, so the water tends to splash out. IMO, if it wasn't possible to install an entire glass door, shower curtains would have sufficed. The switch to the restroom light is to the right of the main door, however the restroom itself is to the left. The bathroom sink is to the right as soon as you walk into the room.My one other complaint is the parking fees. When booking online, it first appeared we would be able to pay an "overnight flat fee" of $10. Once we arrived, we noticed that the $10 flat fee is only good until 2am. If your stay doesn't include cruising downtown streets during the witching hours, you actually have to pay $30 for 24 hours of parking. You can self park to get that rate, or you can use valet--it comes out to the same $30. We opted to self park since we were not too sure how long it would take for valet to retrieve the car. We were in town for business, so there was not a lot of free time to dawdle.There are a good amount of pros to this hotel. The view from the third floor of Downtown San Diego is beautiful both during day and night. The cheapest food options we found within walking distance was Wendy's and a fresh baked large pizza from 7-11. They have 3 different HBO channels. If you don't want to use wifi, they do provide an ethernet cable for internet connection, which I appreciate. They provide 2 water bottles per day as well as coffee, both regular and decaf. Their fitness center is open 24 hrs, although I was not able to use it.Most of the staff was really friendly. The maid came to clean when we were still in the room, so we sent her away. Before she left, she made sure we had all the supplies we needed...toilet paper, water, shampoo, etc. One of the valet guys threw dirty looks, but whatev. Every little bit helps! Safe travels everyone...This area is mostly one way streets, so let me offer small tip. When southbound on Front St, look for parking on the left side just as you pass C street. If you pass it, you can still pull over in front of the hotel for valet. If you're determined to self park, turn left on Broadway (Broadway runs both ways), and left again on first. The first parking lot on the left side is for the Sofia. Parking permit machine goes to sleep after inactivity, so if it looks off, just hit a button to wake it up. It accepts both cash and credit.

For a motel room, it was more comfortable than many I've used. My room could stand to have some repairs, but these were all relatively small concerns. And the staff were very friendly and accommodating. The bed was comfortable, the room was clean and quite, and having a microwave and fridge in the room was a wonderful addition. The biggest plus for me was how close this motel is to everything! It's right by the stadium, very near the conference center and 5 minutes from Sea World. Several buses run past taking you just about anywhere you need to go. I only realized this the last day of my trip...I wasted so much money on cab fare! Side note: the hotel is near some amazing eateries. Du-Par's restaurant, which is literally next door, has THE most amazing breakfasts, for a very reasonable price. And their bakery items are to die for. Take some pis back to your room, you won't regret it. There's also a killer BBQ joint across the street, as well as several smaller shops in the strip mall and a Red Lobsters. All very convenient to the motel's location. In short, it could use some repairs and some beautification and I never could get the wi-fi to work right, but I'd 100% stay here again.
First things first.. the staff is amazing, check in and out were easy and was treated nothing short of great. The location is pretty easy to get in and out on 2 different streets which is good if you miss a turn. The building is decent, could use a little bit of updating, ceiling in bathroom had some rotting and when housekeeping came, they left 2 towels in the room (1 of which I think we left hanging on the shower bar)... we had 5 people, and they made 3 beds..putting away the sofa bed. Common sense was not used when picking 1 towel for a room with 3 beds - clearly there were more people. Good news is.. Front desk to the rescue again, I called and got forgotten towels quickly! :) My only other complaint is that the AC is in the front room of the junior suite with no air moving to the bedroom without freezing out those on the sofa bed. There was a fan in the wall but it didn't ever come on, nor was there a button to do it manually (if that was supposed to be an option) i'd say that needs updated.
The hotel was great, it was clean, smell clean, and most of all the bathroom was clean. My family enjoyed our stay. We upgraded our room to a junior suite because we are a family of five. To my surprise the room was better than we had expected after reading all the bad reviews. The room and hotel was nothing like the reviews that said the hotel was a motel. On the contrary the hotel is set up like a resort. I stayed at the Wyndham Resort in Florida and this had a similar theme. The area was great as well, it provided a lot of store options. The hotel is located just outside of old town San Diego. The staff was great. We booked the hotel on priceline for (45+tax) $59 dollars a night including tax. The price scared me because it was so cheap I thought oh no this must be a dingy hotel but like I said above it was better than I thought. I was better than most of the 3 star hotels we stay in. No I am not paid by the hotel to write this review
OK.. this is far from being "a dump".... you want a "dump", hit some of the ol' motels down town or down on Broadway. This is actually a nice place to stay generally. I've stayed here 4 or 5 times and never had a really bad experience. Normally clean and pretty comfortable. It is not the Marriott or whatever but, you get what you pay for normally.. My negitive observations are primarilly the following: Prices seem to be all over the place and, yes it is expensive for this hotel (especially the "summer rates"). The in-house "bar" pricing is way high. I don't even go in there any more. And, the pool is treated with salt instead of "other options" and not as comfortabe because of it as most pools in other hotels. Now, one of the best reasons to stay there is "The Waffle House" Cafe..it is really wonderful in my opinion...good food and great atmosphere.
Very disappointed with services and packages at Humphreys. I paid for a package including dinner and breakfast, as well as bottle of champagne for romantic anniversary weekend. Trouble with the wife's massage, nobody there for appointment at 5:45. She finally returned to room around 7:45, got ready for prepaid dinner, arrived 8:45 and was told they were closed, try room service. Got back to room around 9 and room service was closed. Still frustrated in morning so left without breakfast. What a waste. Pictures show beautiful waterfront balconies but rooms were across a busy road and parking lot, about I say about 150 yards from the beach. Tiny balcony featured view of the parking lot not the city skyline as shown. I must be used to staying in 4 start hotels, but the price was comparable. Room was adequate, however service was terrible.
I stayed at the Wyndham Garden near Sea World for three nights with friends. When checking in we were greeted beautifully by Terrence who upgraded us to a junior suite for free. Our room was cleaned everyday, all of the staff were lovely including the maintenance team. The atmosphere at the hotel was gorgeous.The pool is heated and so is the jacuzzi outside. There are plenty of sunbeds and deckchairs.The location of the hotel is 15-20 minutes walk west of Old Town and 10 minutes walk away from the Old Town Transit Center which is where you can get trolleys to other locations including the beaches, downtown and little Italy.This hotel is cheap and extremely cheerful, I would expect this hotel to be at least $100 more a night than it is priced at. I recommended this hotel 100% and will happily stay here again if I am ever in San Diego again.
I have no idea how the star rating for a hotel or resort is calculated, but shirly this one deserves more than three stars!Porto Vista has the feel of a four star hotel and only costs the price of a three star. The Hotel has an excellent restaurant, lounge, spa, and even a hair salon. Despite the large well furnished rooms, the best thing about this hotel has got to be the location. It is located In central San Diego. Near the airport, convention center, and the opera house (I recommend the opera house).Parking is available on site. The website states that parking is limited, but perhaps we just got lucky, because we had no problem.We our thinking about renting the Porto Vista's conference center for our next family reunion.Porto Vista Hotel and Suites is a great facility. I highly reccomend it and will absolutely stay there again.
It was a good stay, what I didn't like is that the parking is really weird and spread out over multiple buildings. The charge was $10 for parking. The parking that night was bad, there were a few RV's that were there parked across a lot of parking spaces. After we came back from dinner most spaces were taken up and had to park a bit farther away from our room.Other than the parking situation, I though the room was clean and very quiet. Also the room was cold coming in! All the other hotels we go its warm and stuffy and have to wait fornthe A/C to come up to temp. This room was already comfy. We had a good night's sleep.The girl at the front desk was very helpful and nice. Even though there were multiple buldings, her instructions on how to get to the room were spot on. We had no trouble getting there. Checkout was also painless.
Don't let the outside fool you the rooms are nice. My room did have roaches they took care of it but how they took care of it I was annoyed. One guy said that I could move back in when my room when it was clean from roaches. On the day of me moving back in my room I had an issue with one of the women working there yelling and telling me that next time I'd better find another MOTEL cause I will not be moving from room to room. The rooms are different. My original room had a great shower head and microwave. My subsitute room had neither of the two. I was staying a week so i needed the microwave. The lady gave me crap for wanted to move back to my orginal room. I will never stay at this Motel again. I would like to think the OTHER indian guy who was very nice to me. Gave the internet password without me even asking. Thank you!
