I enjoy the experience with National mostly because of the time saved in renting a car and getting underway while other people are still waiting in line at other rental agencies. I upgraded and dropped off the car at another site without any problems or extra fees. We were treated like a royalty at both sites.
I arrived at about 8 PM on Tuesday, January 17 at the Rental Car Facility at San Diego Airport with a National Car Rental reservation. I am an Executive Club member but usually pick a car from the Emerald Aisle to get a reasonable size car (e.g., Nissan Altima) instead of a big car or SUV. On this occasion, the Emerald Aisle was empty but there was one Nissan Altima in the Executive Aisle; clearly I grabbed it and left for my hotel. The check-out was quick and easy, as is usually the case with National. The next morning, I "discovered" that the car was brand new. It had 5 miles on it when I left airport rental facility. When I turned it in, it had 43 miles on it. The man who checked me in was as pleasant and helpful as he could be. Among other things, because the gas tank still said full, he did not add a gasoline charge. The final bill was within 4 cents of the estimate in my reservation e-mail. It is hard to imagine a more pleasant car rental experience. I will certainly continue to rent from National at San Diego Airport in the future.
I rent from National about 120+ days a year and have been an Emerald member for almost 10 years. They have always provided superlative service and make it easy to pick-up your rental. Now, if the hotels and airlines can make their service match, traveling would be a breeze!
I love the efficiency I experienced in this car rental process! Went straight to the rental site, didn't have to sign/initial 40 lines on a form, was sent straight to pick from a huge selection of really nice mid-sized cars (no Hugos!) including Dodge Chargers! Drove the car to the exit, checked out and was out of there in literally 5 minutes. When we dropped it off, I opened my door and a man handed me my receipt and said, "Have a great day!" Best car rental experience I've ever had.
National usually has a good selection of cars for the Emerald Club, including small SUVs, mini-vans, sedans, and most recently pickups (love that). Cars are like new, but it helps to check it out before driving off. Little things like windows that need cleaning can drive me crazy. The people are always friendly and helpful.
This was my first experience using National. I did not know how to use the Emerald Club. The person at the rental aisle just pointed to 2 cars and said, "Pick one". The car had a rattle in the vent or radio speaker that was annoying. The handle in the front door had black grease in it and I had to put a kleenex in the well so I didn't have a sticky hand each time I opened and closed the door. I was not impressed with the car and it was supposedly an upgrade.
Always use National as they're the corporate approved vendor. I love being a member of Emerald Aisle; the quickness and professionalism is a great timesaver. On my recent trip to San Diego I used National and my only complaint was the car smelled like a bologna sandwich. It wasn't too bad on Day 1, but on Day 5 the car really stunk. Looked everywhere and found nothing.
Very good experience with National in San Diego. A nice, clean car of the class we requested was waiting for us; check out was fast. checkin was very fast and easy. the shuttle drivers were very helpful with bags and were very courteous. This is the type of experience that I have come to expect from National!
My recent rental was very typical. I enjoy being able to pick up my car and drive off using the Emerald Aisle. Car availability has been a problem the last two times I have rented.
This trip I accidently left my expensive sunglasses on the visor in my rental. When I arrived at the airport, I called and explained my loss. Unfortunately, they were not turned in. Was hoping someone with a good heart would have turned them in. My fault I guess.
A great week in the San Diego region began with a pleasant experience at the National Car Rental emerald Club line. I was warmly greeted and helped into a Dodge Charger. The car turned out to be a gem; far above my expectations. It get great mileage and had wonderful acceleration and steering radius. I usually avoid the Dodge cars. Returning was uneventful until I got near the airport in my shuttle bus. Tired after a five day business trip, I left my sport jacket in the auto. I had time to spare but did not relish a ride back to the Rental facility. The Shuttle Bus driver, told the rental dispatcher about my mistake; I was told to standby at the location where he dropped me. Five minutes later, another happy Bus Driver handed over my sport jacket. No problem. My experience was a five star event.
