As a San Diego native, Dr. Shoaee studied physiology at UCSD for her undergraduate work. She was then accepted into the California College of Podiatric Medicine, in San Francisco, where after a four year curriculum she received her Doctor of Podiatric Medicine. Dr. Shoaee was then selected to continue onto a dual hospital three year surgical residency program: Olive View-UCLA Medical Center and West Los Angeles Veterans Hospitals. During her training, Dr. Shoaee was exposed to a wide range of foot and ankle pathologies. At the county hospital, Dr. Shoaee underwent extensive training in foot and ankle trauma and reconstructive surgery. At the Veterans hospital there was an emphasis on limb-preservation and wound care for diabetics. She has also trained with well-known Beverly Hills Podiatrists and utilizes cosmetic surgical techniques in order to achieve minimal surgical scars and postoperative swelling. This array of surgical skills and techniques are utilized by Dr. Shoaee for any type of foot and ankle condition.

Bunions
A bunion is a bony bump that forms on the joint at the base of your big toe. They can develop from an inherited structural defect, excess stress on your foot, or can result from an existing medical condition.
Ingrown Toenails
Children an suffer from any of the conditions that adults can suffer from. Most commonly children may get afflicted with ingrown toenails, warts, have issues with flatfeet or sport's injuries. Sever's Disease is an inflammation of the growth plate in the heel of growing children. The condition presents as pain in the back of the heel and is caused by repetitive stress and is thus particularly common in active children. It usually resolves when the bone has completed growth or activity is lessened. If the pain is severe or impacting activies, we have several treatment options to help.

Although many people consider calluses to be a simple skin problem, it is actually an indicator of bone problems. In the foot, calluses are typically seen on the heels, balls of the feet, and on the outer side of the big toe. Corns are small calluses that usually occur on the feet and on or between toes. Corns may be caused by ill-fitting shoes and can become very painful. Sometimes corns and warts may resemble one another and need to be evaluated for a correct treatment plan.

Physical Therapy
Today, I was cleared to stop using my walking boot after the surgery. Dr. Shoaee and her staff were professional through out the process, providing good explanations and answers to my questions. I felt very confident in her abilities and the recovery has gone very much as she described it. While I still need to complete my physical therapy sessions and strengthen the affected foot and leg, I've had little pain and feel the procedure was very much a success.

I'm super happy with my feet, the pain I had before is gone and the scars are almost gone too! I use mederma every day and it works wonders. I've had bunions ever since I was in elementary school and I didn't know how I got them until I saw Dr. Shoaee and the PT she referred me to. My gait was causing my feet to form this heinous bunions (ugh). Prior to seeing Dr. Shoaee, I was a little weary about getting them removed because I could not find a podiatrist in San Diego with a lot of reviews or great bunionectomy reviews.

Heel Spurs
Heel pain is one of the most common complaints from patients. There are several conditions that can cause heel pain, with plantar fascitis being the most common. Plantar fasciitis is one of the most common causes of heel pain. It is caused by the irritation and inflammation of the large band of tissue that connects your heel bone to your toes (plantar fascia). Some symptoms include stabbing pain that usually occurs in the mornings. As you walk around on the foot the pain normally decreases, but it can return after standing for long periods of time. While heel spurs may or may not show up on an x-ray, the spurs themselves are a result of the actual problem: plantar fasciitis. In children, heel pain is usually caused by Sever's disease.

Ingrown Toenails
Ingrown Toenail occur when the curvature of the nail pushes down the side of the toe and goes into the skin. This causes pain and discomfort and, in many cases, can result in infection. The leading cause of ingrown toenails is inheritance, although the way the patient trims his or her nails can be a contributing factor. Improper nail spa services can also lead to an ingrown toenail. There are both conservative and permanent methods to help in both treating the current condition and preventing future recurrences.
Metatarsalgia
Metatarsalgia is a condition that causes pain in the ball of the foot—the area between your arch and toes. The area under your toes can be a common source of pain because it supports your weight when standing, walking, or running. Metatarsalgia is described as painful swelling that occurs in the ball of the foot. The pain can feel like a tingling or numbness, or sharp shooting or burning pain. You may feel pain in a small area under your toes, or it can be felt across the whole width of the foot. Symptoms should be caught early since the condition worsens over time.
