good beer selection, great liquor selection, good time

I'd classify the Aero as more of a neighborhood bar than a dive bar, if that makes any sense. While the building (and the Aero Club itself) is quite old, the interior is clean and booths and stools are updated and comfortable. The decor is appropriate to the name of the bar, and the atmosphere is dimly lit--but not dark--and lively. The juke box is solid, stocked with classics and essentials like The Ramones, Social D, The Who, Pavement, Johnny Cash, and other classic and independent artists. It's a fairly diverse mix, but no, you won't find the latest Panic! At the Disco album on it... to my great pleasure. It provides a good accompaniment to a couple rounds of pool, or for working on your laptop in one of the booths (the Aero also has free WiFi).

This isn't a sports bar, but the 4 flat screens are usually showing a requested game, and I've watched the Chargers here a few times. When a game isn't on the screens generally run a Fellini film on mute--I *would* like to see a little more on-screen diversity, but I can't penalize them for that, as I don't really go to bars to watch TV.

The staff here is great--friendly and fast--and every beer I've had here from Stella Artois to Stone IPA to Guinness has been a decent-to-excellent pour served at the appropriate temperature. I have never been served in a dirty or soapy glass, and though such things happen in even the best places, I have to say I'm a little suspicious of reviews that plug other establishments. But anyway, good selection of local beers and standard favorites.

While the beer selection is good, the liquor selection is where Aero Club shines. Last I heard they were stocking 40-50 different vodkas and a similar number of whiskeys, with plenty of other assorted liquors and poisons. A friend once inquired about a loved, unrepresented vodka, and his favorite spirit was added to their selection by our next visit. I love a bar that listens to its patrons.

Best everything!

The Aero is the best! I don't know what these other people are talking about, but how much faith can you put in someone who can't even use spellcheck? The bartenders are phenomenally friendly, the bar is mellow, prices are good, and the beer is great! The owner, who is hands-on and easy to talk to, is crazy about his beer, which is why it is always top-notch - and cold! Maybe these bad reviewers are trying to keep the place to themselves? If so, I get it - hopefully the place doesn't get too trendy. But I can read between the lines - a bartender who turned out to be ""not as cool as I first thought"", as one reviewer put it, is a bartender who knows how to steer clear of a creepy customer. Sorry she turned you down, buddy, but hitting on the bartender is so cliche. As for the music, etc.: it's not a dance club. Go downtown if you want to pick up boozed-up poseurs. I'll be at the Aero Club.

Fun place

I was at this bar when I was on vacation. I had a really good time. The beer was good and I did some dancing. I will go there again!!!!

Drive on by

Drive on by. Bad example of a bad dive bar. (1) PARKING: curb parking, 55 mph traffic, dangerous. (2) STRUCTURE: patched up 40's DIY renovations. (3) BAR: edge on bar to prevent spills in your lap. (4) TVs: four older flat screens, hard to see (5) BEER: off brands served room temp (6) LIQUOR: several bottles on nick-knack shelves behind bar. (7) POOL TABLE: well used coin operated. (9) STAFF: adequate (10) SOUNDS: cheap hi-fi & TVs mixed. PRIVACY WARNING: video of your activity will be viewed by staff and discussed on the internet later.

Problem parking.

Dive bar with locals. Owner offers a wide selection of beers on tap. Parking is difficult and limited.

Best in town!

Hmmmm....I've gotta say something in response to a bad review on this bar. First, the Aero Club has a ""Jukebox"" (no jute boxes to be seen), second - does the the ""Starlight"" have a secret parking lot that I don't know about?? I mean, parking is an issue everywhere in Mission Hills, so if there are some empty spots somewhere near the Aero Club please let me know. About that jukebox....Cake, David Bowie, Patsy Kline.....if you can't find something you like, you're a little narrow-minded. And what about writing a bad review and then pasting it on every review site you can find?? Geeez, what did they do to tick you off?? This is a great place with terrific people on both sides of the bar and you can't ask for more than that.

Decent Place

I stopped in here on a Sunday afternoon. I was favorably impressed by the bar-tender- an attractive young woman with a friendly personality. They have an extensive selection of the hard stuff here. I'm not into gin and vodka, so I had a few White Russians and a couple beers. The beer selection is definitely unique. They have a few I'd never even heard of, but a couple I expected them to have they didn't have. Some cheap food items: corn dogs for a buck, peanuts and pop corn for 50 cents I think.

Seating at the bar and a few tables. Two pool tables for only 50 cents a game. Dominoes, Monopoly, and Trivial Pursuit. Five TV's which were showing sports while I was there, but I did notice a few videos. A previous reviewer mentioned a black-and-white film with subtitles, and they have a couple Fellini films. His work might not be the best for a rowdy Friday night, but he's quite a well-respected director. The decor has a lot going on, so it's hard to describe. I do give mad props to whoever did the ceiling over the bar, though.

Update: The bartender doesn't seem as cool as I first thought. But that's just life I guess. It's still a decent place for a drink.

A bad experience from beginning to end!!!!

A bad experience from beginning to end!!!! My girlfriend and I recently stopped by the Aero Club for a drink. Upon arrival there was no where to park not because the bar was full but because it has no parking lot. No big deal I don?t mind a walk. There were five to seven people in the bar, not exactly a full house. We sat down at a table near the jute box. After about 10min with no serves I walked up to the bar and asked for two beers. The bartender was rude and made it seem like we weren?t welcome. She stumbled almost falling on the way to get our drinks, it was only eight o?clock and her buzz was quite apparent. I paid left a tip then returned to my table. The glasses we were given were not clean and had sum film around the top rim. The beer was bitter and had a soapy after taste. The decor was definitely as advertised ?Dive bar?. The 4 TVs were showing a black and white move with subtitles, not exactly entertaining. The jute box was very out of date with very few good songs. I?m no music expert but most of the song selections were very drab. I always go back to a great saying ?if the bar is empty there is probably a good reason?. We stopped after about half a beer it just didn?t taste right. My girlfriend said we should just leave so we and walked out to the street. There was a group of people walking past the Aero Club my girlfriend asked if they knew of any other bars in the area. They said they were going down the street to the Starlight a new bar on India st. We ended up going with them and had a great time after a bad start to the night. The Aero Club gets 1 out of 10 in my book I won?t be going back there....
