What started as a dare from his twin sister (to carve an egg shell) has now become an identity. The Eggman, Frank Casciani, wants your eggs - unfertilized and sterile, from finches to ostriches (ladies you can keep your ovaries). That makes him different than most people. We crack them and toss the shells aside for the omelet we can create; Frank Casciani turns them into beautiful pieces of kaleidoscopic art that have garnered him International fame. His studio in Balboa Park's Spanish Village is shared by several other egg artists and jewelers, although he is one of only three, that he knows who make kalidescopes with the shells. The studio is jam packed with beautiful eggs that are carved, painted, bejeweled (Swarovski crystals only). A single painted Egg can take up to 10 weeks to build, and have as much as many as 14 layers of paint. Casciani use automobile paints and glitters in his process. The eggs themselves come from various sources and donors. Your normal super market extra large eggs, however, will be politely declined. The Finch eggs come from a 4-year-old boy whose family raises Finches. He brings them in regularly on a large flat egg carton and earns a buck a piece for them. To be honest, I never thought a shell could look so good and that they could be decorated with more than just food coloring and vinegar. The art is indeed inspiring and beautiful. When in Spanish Village I recommend stopping by Shells In Design for an omelet...I mean "Awe-umm-letting".
I had a rear brake job done here on my 2003 T&C minivan and the price and service was great. What I especially liked was that I asked them to check the front brakes and they told me that I should be able to get another 3 - 6 months out of the brake pads before they need replacing. They easily could have said I needed them replaced and got the extra work, like I think most places would have, but they gave it to me straight. To me this honesty is so helpful in feeling confident in a repair shop. Note: As other have said here - don't confuse this service station with the nearby Shell Car Wash.
They talk to you like people. I've gone here twice for service and a few times for gas. Usually the gas is about 1 cent less than the 7-11 across the street, which isn't much, but we all know how that adds up. I know they've gone through a couple of management changes, that may be why their services were delayed. However, I went for a Smog check and to have my brakes fixed, both of those were done in a timely manner. I was definitely not overcharged. I have never had a bad experience when coming here, and I will continue to do so until proven wrong.
I had my car smogged in a professional Repair Shop. Timely and parts were not that costly, Lee is a good mechanic/owner/neighbor and Juni is also very capable! Rob knows the rest. You understand me!
Lee has been very helpful and reasonable with all my car repairs! These other reviews sound personal and vindictive. This is not the station I know.Good Luck Guys!
I've been gassing up at this station for years as they are far less expensive than even United Oil stations. Always pay cash. Never had a problem.
Cheapest gas around with the exception of Costco, but hey, you will be waiting in line for 30 minutes to save about what? 30 cents?
we filled up and got changed from our swim suits here and cleaned up our rental car here before going to the airport, nice place.
