My husband and I were looking for a reasonable-cost car rental at the San Diego airport with decent service. The reviews showed that Payless and Fox, the first two low-cost places we found, were awful, so we kept looking. On cars.com, my husband found TravCar. There was only one review, but it was by an outfit that included its webpage address in the review, suggesting that it's a legitimate review rather than a plant, so we went with TravCar. The service in reserving the vehicle was very good. The web page wouldn't let us have a pickup time later than 7 pm, but our plane was arriving at San Diego at 9 pm, so we called them. They made the change manually to 9 pm and told us how to proceed if our plane is late. When we arrived in San Diego, the TravCar shuttle arrived at the airport for us in about 10 or 15 minutes. The staff was friendly and courteous. Our car was in very good driving condition and the interior was clean, but the car wasn't spotless -- the windshield and rear view mirror were dirty. When we went to drop off the car at the end of our stay, and looked more closely at the bill (which we should have done when we picked the car up, but we were tired), we found that TravCar had billed us for over $60 per day although we had reserved the vehicle for about $34. per day. When we pointed that out and showed the TravCar staff person our reservation information, he immediately reduced the bill to $34 per day. All-in-all, I can't quite rate TravCar 5 stars, but we were pleased with the service. The next time I go to San Diego, I will use TravCar if their price remains this competitive.

"I just wanted to thank your school and instructor Kelly Nguyen for helping me pass my driving test. After two previously-failed tests, my confidence was shaken and my actual road knowledge wasn't up to scratch. I was a very nervous driver and only had my husband to ""show me the ropes"" on the road. After just a few hours with kelly, I felt more confident and at ease with my driving. Kelly was very patient and understanding with me, despite my difficultly learning new things as an adult driver, and she always showed up to my door with a smile!! She maintains a friendly and encouraging environment throughout and during the test practice as well. I work a 9-5 job, hence the timings were difficult to fit in practice and with those constraints she took up extra effort to come in a little early every morning so I would be able to have session before I went to work. Having been a test- taker herself, she makes sure you are driving to the exact rules that the test watches out for. Do take her, worth every penny and more!"
I've been renting from this Enterprise branch on Lytton for over five years. I've NEVER rented a car that I was not totally satisfied with. Girard was the manager for many years until about six months ago. He was very professional always as was the staff. The two newer mgmt. employees, Tom and Phil, also care about their customers and are very professional. I am troubled by the post below, although once in a blue moon, you'll get an auto with it's problems. Enterprise will always offer to compensate in such a way you are basically overcompensated for any issue you might have. I have several close friends who also have rented from this location and they have ALWAYS been totally satisfied with the service, the cars, and the pricing. I brought back a car with more gas than it had in it when it was rented and was given credit for that extra cash on a business card which I used on the next rental. I did not have to ask for that credit. I let them know what kind of car I want and am always given a clean car of my liking. They go out of their way to keep the customer happy. Enterprise is rated #1 for a REASON!!!
I arrived at about 8 PM on Tuesday, January 17 at the Rental Car Facility at San Diego Airport with a National Car Rental reservation. I am an Executive Club member but usually pick a car from the Emerald Aisle to get a reasonable size car (e.g., Nissan Altima) instead of a big car or SUV. On this occasion, the Emerald Aisle was empty but there was one Nissan Altima in the Executive Aisle; clearly I grabbed it and left for my hotel. The check-out was quick and easy, as is usually the case with National. The next morning, I "discovered" that the car was brand new. It had 5 miles on it when I left airport rental facility. When I turned it in, it had 43 miles on it. The man who checked me in was as pleasant and helpful as he could be. Among other things, because the gas tank still said full, he did not add a gasoline charge. The final bill was within 4 cents of the estimate in my reservation e-mail. It is hard to imagine a more pleasant car rental experience. I will certainly continue to rent from National at San Diego Airport in the future.
I highly recommend United Auto Rental when visiting San Diego! They were extremely helpful from the moment we contacted them at the airport upon our arrival. We phoned Alex, and he did an excellent job of directing us to the rental car facility shuttle. The shuttle dropped us off, and we walked a short distance to an area where users of other rental car agencies are picked up. United Auto Rental is very close to the airport, and Alex picked us up without delay in a vehicle similar to the one that we had requested. By comparison, the registration process was much easier here. Alex was extremely helpful, professional, and personable. We appreciated his outstanding customer service. The vehicle was great! It was a Toyota Camry and was in very good shape. We really enjoyed the car and found it to be very reliable in our travels throughout southern California. When we dropped off the vehicle, Isaiah and Jacob were great! They could not have been more professional, personable, and courteous.
When I arrived at Enterprise Rent-A-Car by the San Diego Airport, I was greeted by an energetic young man who found my reservation quickly. He gave specific instructions on how to get to where the cars were located, up an escalator or elevator. Once I arrived on the 2nd floor, I was greeted, by name, by a young lady who showed me the car that was available, but also gave me other options that were available, too. I decided to go with a Nissan Altima for only $1 a day more. We quickly went over the car for any damages and she showed me the size that needed to be noted. There were no issues and I signed the contract electronically & checked out quickly. I enjoyed that this car had a backup camera and was easy to learn the find all the important items (windshield wipers, lights, brakes, etc.) The return was seamless, also. I drove up, an attendant was there ready to help me get my luggage out & checked over the car quickly. Off I went to find my flight's location. Excellent!
This is a fabulous new business started by a bright young entrepreneur, Christian. He has truly filled a niche in San Diego County. I was remiss in not praising this enterprising young man sooner. I first met him in March 2016 while visiting. I knew no one, had no where to go and only had cash and a debit card. I had car trouble and was stranded. I had a dog waiting for me in north county , the big 3 rental car places would not accept my debt card. I was in tears. Chris came to my rescue. Chris picked me up and dropped me off. I ended up with a rental car at a reasonable rate and fell in love with an enterprising young man. Unfortunately, I did not give him a review. Today, I was again in Chula Vista, again car trouble and a 126 lb dog waiting for me. Chris to the rescue. This time I had the proper credit cards and I CHOSE ALTA because of their superb customer service and personal attention. You can not go wrong . I can not recommend this fabulous start up highly enough.
This happy story starts with a wonderful agent who convinced me to purchase the damage waiver prior to my road trip from San Diego to San Francisco. I argued with her as I've heard hidden fees pop up anywhere you try to rent cars and I wanted to avoid falling victim to this. Fast forward nearly two weeks in to my Cali stay, specifically as I was wrapping up my visit to San Francisco. I park on a one of the less than busy streets off of Market thinking I'd hit the jackpot -- free parking. WRONG! After a 5 - 6 hour stay visiting friends in Tech, I return to the rental to find a shattered rear passenger window and my laptop stolen. Enterprise handled everything with ease -- damage waiver to the rescue. My laptop however was not covered as I hadn't gotten the next level of insurance coverage... However, my rental was upgraded to a VW Passat (first push-to-start ever!) as was my 400 mile journey back to San Diego.Enterprise: Thanks for an awesome first car rental experience!
I had reserved a SUV Rav 4. I got to the center very close to the time I said I would...11am. However, I was not told at the counter that the car was not available. As I was walking through the lot, the rep took me to a Kia Soul. Obviously, not in the same class as a Rav 4 although the rep tried to convince me it was. He told me it was an awesome car. I declined it. He then told me I could choose a Altima or a Camaro. I am grateful that he did offer another good car but I reserved based on my selection, so I was not prepared to make a choice for something totally different than I was expecting. The rep told me that there were so many reservations for that day and many opted to "upgrade" so there were not any of my selection left. If I reserve it, shouldn't that mean that this car or something (very similar, not a Kia Soul) be available for me? Rented for 5 nights. So it was a big deal for me...even if it wasn't a big deal for you.
A great week in the San Diego region began with a pleasant experience at the National Car Rental emerald Club line. I was warmly greeted and helped into a Dodge Charger. The car turned out to be a gem; far above my expectations. It get great mileage and had wonderful acceleration and steering radius. I usually avoid the Dodge cars. Returning was uneventful until I got near the airport in my shuttle bus. Tired after a five day business trip, I left my sport jacket in the auto. I had time to spare but did not relish a ride back to the Rental facility. The Shuttle Bus driver, told the rental dispatcher about my mistake; I was told to standby at the location where he dropped me. Five minutes later, another happy Bus Driver handed over my sport jacket. No problem. My experience was a five star event.
