I have taken my dog to several groomers here locally and have been disatisfied each time either with the cost being too much or the actual service. However, the experience at Vickys was fantastic. The actual clip was wonderful and my dog looked remarkable. The best he ever has. They were tim…

My friend and I decided to go here instead of another place because she had been there before (been a long time though). What a mistake! I have had manicures at nail salons and spas and this place was the worst I have ever seen. First of all, the area was not cleaned before sitting me down. The …

Honestly, Melissa changed by life. I am so indebted to her. I am in my 40s, and have super fine hair, that began thinning at the crown 13 years ago after the birth of my child. I have spent over a decade battling it. I have had every blood test known to man. In sum, it’s heredity, and a hormone imbalance that only menopause will cure. Even so, I’ve tried everything. oils, vitamins, massage, Nioxin, Minoxidil, bio-identicals, Rx meds. I spent a fortune, with no results. The older I got, the more it damaged my self-esteem. When I looked down, or when you stand or sit behind me, you could see my scalp and thin patches. I became a master of concealment. The side part, strategic hairspray, hair fibers, hair pieces. Clip ins that hurt like heck and damaged my hair further. It was exhausting, sad, and so time consuming! Finally, I gave up. I started looking into extensions. Honestly, I was very skeptical. The last thing I wanted was to further my hair loss with “friction alopecia.” I researched nearly all extension stylists in SA. I eliminated the “jack of all, master of none” or one’s that are self-declared specialists who trained via YouTube. I was almost ready to give up. And then I came across “Extensions of Yourself” and Melissa. What a difference! First of all, Melissa is an educated, certified specialist, trained in a variety of methods, has seen it all, & knows her stuff. And it is quite clear that her goal is to help people, not make $. Her compassion is obvious as is her sensitivity to emotions surrounding hair loss. She truly understands what it is like to feel embarrassed about hair. I’ve never met anyone who “gets it” the way she does. In a free consultation, she carefully goes over your options, the prices, and what type of service will best fit your life style. There is no hard sell. She was honest and explained to me that HairDreams extensions can be reused two times, so you don’t have to buy new extensions in 6 months. But others, like Great Lengths, are used once and that’s it, you have to pay for both labor, and new extensions every 6 months or so. Her point was: you can opt for cheaper extensions, but it is false economy if you plan on keeping them longterm. I had been to countless salons that pushed the lower end extensions, fully aware that it means more $$$ for them. After the consult, Melissa encouraged me to think about it for awhile, even when I was ready to whip out my checkbook that very moment! So, I took my time. The cost was reasonable and under market for SA, far less than most salons. I added up all the money I spent on products, the time, the emotional toll it was taking. Two weeks later, I set up my appointment. The hair salon is intimate. You get personal attention without having to deal with the group of gossiping women. It is just you, and Melissa. The process took about 6 hours. I am hyperactive -- but somehow the time flew by. Melissa she puts earbuds in, and listens to music, leaving you free to work on a laptop (free wifi!), read, or whatever. She doesn’t waste your time taking personal calls, texting, or gossiping with other stylists. When she was done, I didn’t even recognize myself. I knew I’d feel better, but I didn’t imagine how much decent hair could improve appearance, and in turn---confidence! It is weird, but having normal hair, can make all your other features look better as well. My natural thin hair emphasized any flaw in my skin, All in all, it has been a life-changing, wonderful experience with Extensions of Yourself. I told Melissa, “I think I will die with my hair extensions in” and I meant it. I could never go back to the struggle I had before I met Melissa. She is truly a blessing. I will be a lifelong client.
when my husband and i were trying to find a place to eat for our last night in san antonio on our getaway, we had it narrowed down to two places: the iron cactus and ritas. we just knew we wanted margaritas and mexican food. we wanted them to be good but at just before 7:00, we didn't think we would have to worry about making our plans right before 10 pm. HAHA were we wrong. ANYWAYS, after reading reviews on another website, we chose here because rita's had "horrible service and margaritas". did someone get them mixed up?! they are kind of close to each other. our waiter was ok- at first. i have been waiting tables for 6 years and bartending for 4 of them. when a waiter is nervous or has a bad night, i can tell, but i am sympathetic. but what i am NOT sympathetic to is being ignored or lied to. my husband asked what the difference between the margarita and the mexican martini size/price and our waiter told us it was DOUBLE THE SIZE... well for only 3 dollars more, it just made sense(from what he told us, DOUBLE THE SIZE, right?!?!?) so my husband ordered it and i a strawberry margarita, regular size. about 20 minutes later after our waiter had checked on his other tables several times without asking us if we were ready to order, we get our margaritas and they are NOT at all what they should be. my "strawberry" margarita was a house margarita with a tiny bit of strawberry swirled around the glass... i should have just gotten a house i guess. my husband's margarita was in a glass 2 oz. bigger than mine(we have them at the place i work) and since my margarita wasn't an ounce big... it was NOT twice the size. totally disappointed. it tasted good though. after 2 hours waiting for our food it took another 40 minutes waiting for our check(other tables of fernando's had the same problem), we contemplated asking for our bill several times(for the drinks, before the food came out), and right before we did it our food came out. it was lukewarm, my husband's fajitas were not sizzling and my queso was cold. by now it was 9:10 and we were so mad we just wanted to leave. we finally got to leave iron cactus at 9:40.. an almost THREE HOUR dining NIGHTMARE... at least the food could have been hot. i would have complained to the manager that night but it seems that a bunch of people beat me too it. we really had to make it to our other obligations, luckily we did. i knew that harassing a manager wouldn't make me feel better but maybe warning other people would...
Okay so I have lived in the area for quite some time......actually over 34 years, This salon has been here for 6-7 years. I took my younger daughter (12) for just a trim.......wow such a good price and talk about not going home and catching a hair or two or a whole chunk that was missed or screwed up! THANK YOU MONICA!!!! A month later my best friend wanted to get a hair cut but didn't care what price she would have to pay since she pays top dollar regardless. So I took her to go see Monica, got her hair cut nothing fancy we were in and out and just so you have an idea my best friend still had $40.00 bucks not paid on her hair. She was totally surprised at the price and even more surprised at the final look. Once again THANK YOU MONICA!!!! So today (04-03-09) I took my oldest daughter (14) for a little more of a fancy cut. I respectfully asked for Monica, but unfortuntely some other customers were a little luckier to have her full attention. So not to worry I looked around and gladly requested Maria. Well we spent the next 30-45 minutes in the great hands of Maria. Maria explained the do's and dont's on how to protect care and handle my daughters hair. I went in for a cut and was giving some valuable lessons for free. She was very nice informative and over all a blessing! Not only did my daughter think Maria was some sort of hair Goddess but wants to see her for every next time to come. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU MARIA!!!! Well when the time comes we will get to be in the great hands of the other ladies that work with this establishment. I am so sorry if I have misspelled or incorrectly mentioned anything. So please stop by and see what I mean.... I PROMISE YOU WILL NOT BE LET DOWN!!!! Twin Scissors- San Antonio 78204 Maria-Mireya-Monica-Melva..........GO SEE THEM!!!!! Thank you ladies, Jennifer
I was so not impressed with the service here or the knowledge of the stylist. I've been natural over 8 years and I've successfully cared for my own hair and am usually hesitant to allow others to care for my hair due to previous experience from cocky stylists. I thought this would be a better experience after reading reviews but on second look I can only assume that those with a positive experience probably actually think their curls are a "problem" to be "managed". I on the other hand love my healthy, thick, tightly curled hair. First the stylist used horrible washing technique with shampoo further tangling my hair and poorly cleansing and conditioning. Then proceeded to rip the hell out of my hair with a denman brush and blow dryer without adequately or gently detangling first. I should have known better due to the fact that she obviously disliked and could not care for her own "natural" hair because of the obvious bad sew in weave she had in her hair. And her own professed use of a "lil" relaxer to help her own curls blend with weave.... All I originally wanted was a trim because I haven't trimmed my hair in a while and during our consultation she said that she would just blow dry my hair before trimming. She then proceeded to flat iron my hair. Also with poor technique in my opinion. Hopefully once I wash this mess out my curls will revert back to their original beauty and the cut won't be completely horrible. I first went here for a trim to cut off frayed ends and single strand knots after going about 1.5 years without professional trim... But after all the stress and pulling I feel like I just have additional wear and tear on my hair... Awful awful awful... So mad right now! And overpriced as hell. Which I wouldn't mind paying I the service was up to par.
I had my first appointment with this salon. The staff is very friendly and the place was clean and stylish. I went in a couple of days in advance to ask questions and was quoted $60 for a conditioning treatment, which would drop to $35 if you included hair color. I made the mistake of not getting a firm answer of how much for a haircut. I have mixed textured curly hair that is slightly shorter than shoulder length. I was assured that they have experience with my hair type. The day of my appointment, I was seen promptly and offered a beverage and snack. My stylist gave me 100% of her attention and answered what questions I had. These are the sweetest ladies you'll meet. The conditioning treatment for my hair was beyond what I have expected. My stylist then spent time giving me a wet cut, straightening my hair, and a dry cut followed. She did a magnificent job at taking away the split ends and giving my hair a healthy look. At the end, my hair was only straightened and not styled as discussed prior to drying. I also asked for a product to help prevent frizz, to which one was applied. The cost of what I requested: shampoo, conditioning treatment, cut, and straightening with a flat iron was $130. I inquired about the breakdown of my cost and was informed the conditioning treatment was $65 and the haircut was $65. I left the salon to another indoor location and my hair was frizzy in 15 minutes. My experience was not horrible but I cannot say it was the best. This is the most I have ever paid for these specific services, ever. I enjoy the feel of my hair and it appears to be healthier but I left there without a style and frizz that followed shortly after.
I am not sure if many places...especially of the fast food sorts...would fit the bill for a 5-star rating. Still, Podna's Catfish and Po'Boys was an easy choice for a top rating. Having spent 6 months living in San Antonio, this place became one of my favorites. Although it is a place that could be easily overlooked on Austin Highway, and generally would not be fit for a 30 minute lunch if you work downtown, I found as many opportunities to go back as my co-workers would allow. The food in general is really good, but of course, you should shoot for the po'boys. My favorite was the 12" 1/2 fried oyster, 1/2 fried shrimp. Whatever you choose, it is overflowing with meat, the roll that it comes in is fresh and the sauce that you can add on your own is great. The fries weren't necessarily my favorite, but they are still really tasty and not overly fried or salty. This is a pretty basic restaurant, and watch out for the high noon lunches, as it might be difficult to find a table. But the staff is really nice and the owner, who willingly shares about his visit to New Orleans which led to the start of his business, is definitely a friendly character. Although I was never that rushed, they even have a drive-through, and I have heard that you can call in orders and have them cater. Now, I am off to new eating adventures in Dallas, TX as a next step in my own professional pursuits, but Podna's will definitely be on my list when I take my next trip to SA.
I am forever grateful to have stumbled upon Tim Nichols at Beauty Storm. As an experienced wearer of hair extensions, I can tell you that if you want the best hair for the best price to put your best face forward, there is no other place to go. When I look in the mirror, I finally have the gorgeous hair of my dreams (funny that they call them Hairdreams!), and if I had any doubt, the compliments on my "amazing hair" would be all the proof I need. This is a huge deal to me, as I have fine, thin hair that was a source of embarrassment for me since being a teenager. Tim is super nice, and also professional - he REALLY knows his stuff! The first day I was there for a consultaion during which, by the way, I grilled him with multiple questions, he mixed up a special blend of conditioner and laid out a regimen to get my hair back in shape. I used it once, and from then on I was a believer. I used to never condition my hair because it is so fine, and now I condition it as often as I can. My hair color had evolved into a funky "Mango Tango" color that he corrected to a flawless ash that no one has ever been able to get right. He is also honest in his business dealings with you: he has the best pricing on extensions, color, products and tools. I trust him completely and told him on my last visit that since the day I met him, I have had total peace about my hair. He is a five star, a ten, an A plus - all the best.
Absolutely amazed!!! ok so i search, research and read review after review but every review I read about Tim was great and now here is my GREAT REVIEW... so i went in with dreams of being able to walk in with my dark hair and walk out with beautiful light brown hair with all over highlights similar to Jennifer Aniston and Jennifer Lopez like they do in the make over TV shows... well ladies i had my real life TV makeover! ahhhhh my hair color is beautiful, soft, and just like the pictures i brought in!!!! I have dark brown hair and i have gone to every colorist i thought i could trust and they always did what i thought was a half fast job with the highlights... and well come to find out from what Tim does to what they did those other colorist were, plus those other stylist left my hair brassy and orange saying oh this is going to be a process, ugh i knew it was possible to get what i want done in one appt!!! I wont be going anywhere else and i have a list of friends already wanting to book appts... you wont be disappointed!!! ok ok ill stop writing a novel but i am posting pics of my before and after I HAVE MY SAME REVIEW ON YELP... My husband actually introduced me to this salon. He was very impressed with the service and brought home a brochure listing all their services. I happened to find the brochure on the way home and called to see if I could walk in for a pedicure. I was expecting a quick pedi as that is what I am accustomed to and instead I received an awesome treat. I opted for the scrub pedicure and Niki spent a good 30 minutes on my legs. That's not including the time she spent painting my nails. She scrubbed all the way from my knees to my toes. They have a wonderful facility, very inviting, quiet, clean, modern and inviting. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. Salon owner Otilia did my eyebrows and for once I finally found someone who did not leave them uneven or crooked. These ladies are meticulous. If you are looking for a high quality salon treatment without the ridiculous price I encourage you to visit this salon. You will not be disappointed. I am definitely returning and have already told my friends and family about this place. The even better thing is that it is located in a non congested road, easy to get to with plenty of parking right out front. It doesn't get any better than this.
Beautiful Salon! I have always loved Aveda, so when I looked for a salon near me that carried the line, I chose Sivan at first because it was conveniently located to where I live. I was very pleasantly surprised when I walked in to a chic, sophisticated decor, and was greeted by some of the friendliest customer service personnel I've encountered in quite some time. It makes a big difference when someone takes the time to show you they're happy you came in! The little receptionist was very enthusiastic and went above and beyond simply "checking me in" for my appointment. I was taken on a tour of the facility, which I thought was nice, then they offered me a beverage and even a snack! Another added treat there was a massage therapist (Amber I believe was her name) who gave me a hand massage while I was waiting for my hair to process, (for FREE!) which I enjoyed very much. I started my day thinking I would be getting a routine touch up and trim, and ended up leaving with pretty much a royal spa treatment! I love my cut and the color the stylist suggested for me...I will definitely be back, and am actually looking forward to the next visit!
