I LOVE Camp Bow Wow and I'm so glad that I found it. I use to take my dog to another play care, which was close to where I lived. It was ok, but I didn't really like the set up and the staff weren't what I thought was very friendly. I'd heard about Bow Wow from another friend but the location was across town from where I lived. I decided to check it out one Saturday. The first day of play care was free, because during that first day, they determine if your dog gets along/plays well with other dogs. They gave me a tour and explained how the day was set up. The dogs play in an area that allows them to be inside or outside whenever they want. This is great for those hot summer months and very cold winter days. You can drop off as early as 7am, the dogs play until lunch. They will feed them if you want, or if not, they won't. Then the dogs get nap time, because a full day of play care can tucker any dog out! You can pick up anytime in the evening before 7 pm, which is when they close. Very convenient hours for the working dog owner! You can watch your pup play all day on their dogcams, which are accessed from their website. But the number 1 reason I take my dog way across town to Camp Bow Wow is the owners and the staff. They truly love the dogs and take very good care of them- they know all the dogs names and they dogs love them! It's a great feeling when you know your dog is safe and having a blast. Boarding is awesome too. The cabins are large and they have suites too. All day play care is included in the boarding costs, which are very reasonable! They cater to your dog during the day and when you board- any special needs, just let them know and they will be taken care of. In addition, they are always involved at the local animal rescue events and have even fostered dogs at their daycare. I suggest to anyone who is looking for an awesome dog daycare to give Camp Bow Wow a try. The first day is free so what do you have to lose?
We took our two year old Maltese to Smith & Shedd, after her vet of two years couldn't figure out what her digestive problems were caused by. After literally spending over three thousand dollars at her old vet, we still had no idea what was causing Minkie to vomit and have loose stool sporadically. Her prior vet actually said "sorry, there's nothing else that we can do...she's a dog. Dog's are always getting into things. You need to make sure she's not getting into things." Getting into things? After spending three thousand dollars? Ridiculous!!! Smith & Shedd came highly recommended from a friend, so with apprehension, we decided to give them a try. Our first impression was how genuinely sincere the front staff and technicians were. Dr. Smith was also very sincere, and had our baby's problem narrowed down to two possibilities, just by examining her and reading over her piror records. We had to fast Minkie that night. The following morning, they took blood samples, and by the next afternoon we had the results. We had spent thousands at her prior vet, and now with less than two hundred dollars and one visit, we had her diagnosis. Minkie had an unusual disease called a liver shunt. Next they used their ultrasound to diagnose where the shunt was located. Thankfully, hers was of a type that could be fixed surgically. Now it's been over six months since her surgery, and Minkie is the picture of perfect health - her coat is no longer dull, she's put on over two pounds, she is much more energetic, and most importantly, she hasn't had any diarrhea or vomiting since the surgery. Seldom have I had such a wonderful experience with any professional, including mine and my husband's own doctors, that could compare with that of Smith & Shedd. I would recommend them highly to anyone with an animal family member!
First of all, they need to use spellcheck if they are going to be posting anything!! Secondly, they take their time alright!!! 10 hours is a long time to leave your pets at a groomers for any reason and I'm not sure they even took them out to potty or gave them water. There was no water in the kennels that I saw!! I took my three dogs in, two for grooming, one just for a bath at 9:30 am. I didn't get them back until nearly 7:30 pm (nearly 10 hours!!). They said they tried to call at 7 pm, but nothing came up on my cell phone from them at all and I was carrying it on me. One of the dogs still smells although they did a good job grooming them, but it was much more expensive for the dog (10 lbs) who just had the bath than listed on their website, $9, and then charged me $28 for him. They said he was "difficult," and tried to bite them, which I told them he might try, but since they ended up bathing him I don't know how difficult he could have been. I even offered to come get him and they said no. They charged me $48 each for my other two dogs although they were standard grooming and no problem at all according to them, so why wasn't I only charged $38 for each of them. When I asked about the higher charge, Helga informed me they like to take their time with each animal, yet I called at 5:40 pm and was told they were just starting one dog and then the other dog would be next. They close at 6 pm. Quite frankly I feel like I was overcharged because they overbooked for the day and my dogs were last in and last out and they had to stay past closing time to groom them so they charged me the "overtime" for their employees. I won't be going back to them.
Kelly has been grooming my thick-haired collie and my pomeranian/mix for the past few years! I've always appreciated her thoroughness and suggestions when it comes to the health of my dogs. She insists that all shots be current and many groomers do not, which puts other dogs at risk. She recently found that a previous vet's groomer did not remove the undercoat from my very thick haired collie, yet charged me a LOT more to groom both dogs. Kelly was unavailable at the time, so I went to someone else. Big mistake!! At that time I also had a bad experience with this same vet's groomer when both dogs came back with kennel cough after grooming and of course, this spread to my other dogs and two had to go on meds. which cost me even more money. And yes, they were current with their kennel cough vaccinations. Never happened before in all the years I've had my dogs groomed, bathed or boarded. The flea/tick topical I had been using judiciously did not keep the fleas and ticks off which gave my collie tapeworms. The vet's groomer told me to buy tapeworm med. from the feed store for $6.00 which turned out to be the wrong medicine for TAPEWORMS. Kelly found that my collie had even more tapeworms when she recently groomed my collie, and this required that I purchase the much more expensive meds. at Alamo Dog & Cat Hospital. I also had to change the flea/tick topical from Advantix to Comfortis since Kelly found Advantix wasn't working for my collie. Thank you, Kelly, for all the hard work you and your assistant put into grooming my dogs yesterday. Everybody's happy.
We are thrilled with XOXO Pet Sitting services and would recommend them to anyone wanting a worry free alternative to putting their pets in a kennel. We have been using XoXo Pet Sitting for some time and we (and our dogs/hedgehog) are always thrilled with their services. They know how important people's pets are to them and from her first visit with our dogs, they loved her and she really enjoys loving on them. She provides us 3 visits a day and that is just what we need for our older dogs that have good "control" of their bodily functions. It is also really nice to have someone we trust stopping by the house several times a day while we are out of town. The variety of having someone coming and going is a deterrent to those with bad intentions and it gives us a sense of security. This really is the best thing for our pets as well. They are SOOOOO much happier being at home, not in a kennel (which we used to do and they HATED it). We like not worrying about our dogs not eating or being stressed in a kennel as they have in the past. Also there much less chance of contracting any communicable illnesses in a kennel setting. NOTE: During holiday season she books up pretty fast, reserving/paying early ensures you the care your pets need!
I bought a puppy from PetLand and in order to activate the warranty, I had to take the puppy to Smith and Shedd for an initial exam. After reading the reviews for Smith and Shedd, I have to say I was a little weary about this place. I work at a doctors office so i know the power the reviews have on a business. First off, the facility is BEAUTIFUL. Kudos to the designer! Overall my experience was very nice. I'd take my puppy back if I lived closer to their facility and I wasn't already happy with another vet I've used on my other dogs. I met Dr. Smith who was VERY nice and accommodating. He answered all the questions we had. The tech explained things nicely as well. The only thing we had to pay for was the flea/tick treatment. As for the bad reviews, I feel for the consumer, but like I said, I work for a doctor's office so I do feel for the vet's office as well. Some places go through growing pains when it comes to employees. As for pricing, it's the same for a vet's office (I think lol) as it is for a doctor's office. There are pay scales based on the location of the facility. Based on my experience with them, I'd recommend them to a friend.
My husband and I adopted three adorable sibling kittens that needed all the works as new clients and when we called Smith & Shedd to set up an appointment. Receptionist, Donna, was very friendly and knowledgable about what would need for our initial visit. The most impressing aspect was that they e-mailed me an estimate before we arrived for our apointme. The doctor we saw was Dr. Smith and I have to say that he was very thorough with the exams as well as explaining everything that the kittens had received, from vaccines, fecal tests, and the whole wellness exam. When we arrived at the counter to check-out I paid the exact amount quoted on our estimate. So, I have happily found the vet that is a perfect fit for our family and even better, Smith & Shedd is a family owned practice. I have even received a follow-up call to see how our little ones were doing. Don't see the reason for the previous postings that clearly are defaming their character as a clinic which was soooooooo far from the truth. So, if you need a compassionate vet and live in San Antonio then I would not hesitate to give Smith & Shedd a call.
I have been using Smith & Shedd for about 3 yrs and, there are two other vet clinics much closer to where I live. I thought I had made my first appt at the clinic across the st from me, but it turned out it was Smith & Shedd. I went ahead and kept the appt at Smith & Shedd thinking that once my Pug was okay this time, I would make my next appt at the 'right' clinic. However, I was so pleased with the professionalism and care given at this clinic that, I drive just to keep seeing the Smith & Shedd team. One example I can give is, my Pug was not able to urinate (due to struvyte crystals) at one point--Dr. Smith was very caring and listened to what I had to say, kept me updated and, eventually referred me to a specialist that in conjunction with Dr. Smith...saved my puggie! If you have a pug, this is a great place to bring him. Another example is, my boyfriend attracts kittys that are hurt and abandoned, and the staff has worked with me, reasonably, so that I can help these poor babies! Lastly, especially with this being Sep 11th , I also want to add that I appreciate that they have a military discount!
I'm usually not one to give reviews but I have to say I this is one of those times when I wanted to say "A+" job to Companion Keepers. I was a little worried having never used a pet sitter before and since my cat is very important to me... but WOW. They did an amazing job. Not having to go through the trauma of boarding (getting a cat back that was completely insane!) was wonderful! They took special care and did "the little things" that kept him totally at ease. Also the daily text "updates" where great. Just knowing that all is well made our 8 days away very nice. I will DEFINITELY use them on our next trip... no question. They really understand cats and their oddities. Very professional (love reading the daily log when we got home) and just all around good people to work with. Trust is important and they have mine now for sure. Great Job and "We" thank you for everything.
I have boarded my two dogs and two cats at Northport for the past 7 years. It is not by any means a fancy resort style kennel, but is a very personable, friendly, warm enviroment. The facility is familyowned and the staff truely cares about the well being of my animals. They are considerate and gentle with my pets as if they were their own. One of my dogs has some issues with separation from me. I told the staff at Northport about my concerns and they made sure to watch over him. They gave him lots of attention with playtime and monitored his food intake as well. When looking for a place to care for your animals what really matters to you? How new and modern the decor looks? Or the kind gentle staff that will comfort your pets while you are gone? I prefer the staff over the decor. I will continue to take my pets here and highly recommend it to anyone else.
