I have been frequenting this restuarant for many years. Yes it is an old place but the quality of food is phenomenal. It is way better than Benihana. When ordering a steak at a place with Hibachi you always need to order one under what you want because of the type of grill. So for the person who…

Besides having great food and a fun atmosphere, this very unique restaurant on the outskirts of downtown has a real tree that goes through the restaurant. It must be over 75 years old. Friendly staff and at lunch you will probably run into a professional business person that you know.

I am not sure if many places...especially of the fast food sorts...would fit the bill for a 5-star rating. Still, Podna's Catfish and Po'Boys was an easy choice for a top rating. Having spent 6 months living in San Antonio, this place became one of my favorites. Although it is a place that could be easily overlooked on Austin Highway, and generally would not be fit for a 30 minute lunch if you work downtown, I found as many opportunities to go back as my co-workers would allow. The food in general is really good, but of course, you should shoot for the po'boys. My favorite was the 12" 1/2 fried oyster, 1/2 fried shrimp. Whatever you choose, it is overflowing with meat, the roll that it comes in is fresh and the sauce that you can add on your own is great. The fries weren't necessarily my favorite, but they are still really tasty and not overly fried or salty. This is a pretty basic restaurant, and watch out for the high noon lunches, as it might be difficult to find a table. But the staff is really nice and the owner, who willingly shares about his visit to New Orleans which led to the start of his business, is definitely a friendly character. Although I was never that rushed, they even have a drive-through, and I have heard that you can call in orders and have them cater. Now, I am off to new eating adventures in Dallas, TX as a next step in my own professional pursuits, but Podna's will definitely be on my list when I take my next trip to SA.
This was my first time eating at LHSH and i'd like to remind servers that 1st impressions are key! The food on the menu all looked delicious, the host asked if we were ready to order our drinks before we even sat down, my hubby looked at me and said uh, no. She gave us our menus, and said i'll be back, a couple minutes later, while taking in all the menu options they had she came back and asked what we'd like to drink, while i was waiting on my husband to answer, i was looking at the entree's, she actually flipped my menu over and said the drinks are back here and pointed to the menu, i said ok, and decided on a raspberry tea, which was tasty. Then she asked for our order, again i was waiting on my hubby to order while I was still not sure of what i wanted, i just gave in to the Black and Blue Burger, which was excellent! I love Blue Cheese! But after our food got to the table the check was already placed on our table too! Then after eating half my hamburger, the waitress refilled my tea, then asked if i wanted a to go box, i said no, thank you, she then left and came back with a box and said here you go, just incase you need it, how considerate! NOT! Just made me feel really rushed, and it was after lunch time, with hardly any customers! I may try it again at a different time of day, or I may try another location.
My husband and I just returned from Bohanan's where we spent our 8 year anniversary. WOW! Truly awesome dining experience. The concierge was very friendly and made you feel welcome right after you step off of the elevator. The restaurant was "business casual" attire, but was still very comfortable, even for me (I'm a jeans and t-shirt kind of person). The menu had many options and the prices were very reasonable, especially for such a great atmosphere. My husband ordered the red snapper and wild rice. The snapper practically melted in your mouth. Unfortunately, the wild rice was a bit "too wild" for my husband's taste. It tasted pretty good, but the texture was too weird to overcome. As for myself, I ordered the jumbo shrimp and potatoes augratin. When they say "jumbo", they really mean it. I have to say that I was amazed at how wonderful the shimp was. Right amount of breading, amazing flavor.. pure perfection. The potatoes augratin was pretty good, too. The only problem is that my stomach wasn't big enough to finish it all. If you go, I would reccomend "Mo" and "Daniel". Daniel is a bit quiet, but Mo is great! I definitely reccomend Bohanan's. It's my husband and I's new favorite get away in San Antonio.
This restaurant has always been an icon in San Antonio. I remember going there as a child with my parents, brothers and sisters. This year, I have visited the restaurant twice and didn't think it could get much better, especially for the value, but it has. And it has grown to accomodate their loyal customer as well as their growing market. While other big restaurants in San Antonio are closing their doors, it is wonderful to see the family owned and operated Little Red Barn is not only growing, but set to give their customers even more value. My medium rare steak was just as good as other steak houses that I would pay much more for, and within seconds, I had my salad in front of me. Thank you Little Red Barn Steak House for giving us San Antonions a restaurant we still believe in and it shows you still believe in San Antonio and your customers. It's also great to know that your expansion will accomodate even bigger private parties and events.... I will highly recommend your establishment for lunch, dinner and private parties. I'ts fun to eat at Little Red Barn Steakhouse.
On the spur of the moment my grandson picked Ounce Steakhouse as the choice for his birthday dinner. We arrive about 5:30 and immediately thought we were very underdressed for the restaurant (me with t-shirt, him in flipflops). But the host staff welcomed and assured us our dress was just fine. That set the atmosphere for the entire evening. The waiter was efficient, friendly, and very helpful in explaining how the restaurant serves their steaks. They have three grades of beef and you can order whichever grade you want and then whatever size steak you want. My grandson loved this! The food was surperb! It was fresh, full of flavor, and tasted wonderful. The steak was cook to perfection! While not large, they do have a nice wine selection. My grandson ate every bite of his 12-ounce prime ribeye and all the mac and cheese. We even had a delicioust piece of chocolate cake served with a very large sparkler and Happy Birthday written in chocolate on the plate. This was my first visit to Ounce Steakhouse but it will definitely not be the last!
ABSOLUTELY THE BEST STEAKS IN TOWN!! I dine here with my family typically on special occasions but I would dine here several times a week if I could afford it!! This is a perfect example of getting what you pay for. The steaks are extremely tender (THEY ARE DEFINITELY THE BEST IN TOWN) and the side dishes (particularly vegetables) are very fresh, etc. Dining here is a real treat for my family. I made the mistake very recently of dining at another restaurant with a lower priced menu, and had a real bad experience. Longhorn is always packed but they don't take reservations, which bothered me at first; however, the way they get around this is they allow you to call in ahead of time to get your name on the wait list at which time you are given your projected seating time. Long story short - we are usually seated within five minutes after we arrive. Understandably, if you're not there by the projected seat time, you name drops off the list. Smart system!
This family owned business has had such a positive impact on our city. From 1970 - 1985 my Daddy took clients to your restaurant to feed and entertain them almost daily. He had his favorite waitresses (he was a great tipper when they worked hard) - they would bring him peeled radishes and sliced tomatoes as soon as they saw him walking down the entry stairs to be seated. Going back to the Barn always takes me back to my childhood days - great memories! About once a month Daddy would take our family to the Little Red Barn to have a special steak dinner. We were a family of six so we didn't get to eat out much. It was a real treat when we would get to go. One of my favorite things has always been the complimentary salad with your special green dressing and crackers with butter. The steaks have always been great and the pricing hasn't changed that much in the last 35 years. If you want a great meal at a great price - this is the place to go.
I ate here late on a Friday night. My group had 5 people in it. The customer service was excellent. Some of the best I’ve seen in San Antonio. I had the Colossal Shrimp Cocktail, Grilled Jumbo Asparagus and Cajun Ribeye Steak. The shrimp were the biggest I’ve ever seen and tasted great. Same with the asparagus….they were very large and tasted awesome. Things weren’t so great with the steak. Half of the steak was perfect….one of the best I’ve ever had….the other half was so charred I couldn’t eat it. Not sure how that happened….left side cooked perfect, right side charred to the point of being inedible…strange. Prices for dinner are SUPER high. Certainly not someplace a middle class person like me would go more often that ever few years or so. Tip….go to the bar area to during their happy hours…good deals on food. I would go back but because of the prices it won’t be too often.
My family and I have used Suly's catering numerous times for different occasions big and small and I would have to say that the chef is wonderful, he takes his time to listen to what the we have wanted and times have come when we don’t know want to serve but give him some ideas his suggestions have always been great. His prices are reasonable and fit ones budget. His dishes have always been executed with professionalism. When we have had a buffet style it is set up very professional and appealing, and when we have had a sit down dinner the staff are just as professional as the chef. At every event we have used Suly’s catering our guests are always satisfied with what we served and that is what leads us to use Suly’s Catering for all our events. I definitely recommend this catering company to all my family members and friends.
I had a gift certificate from Ancira, since today is our 20th wedding anniversary, wife and I decided to have lunch here today. Place was pretty empty, just about 5 other tables, so service was prompt, as soon as we were walking through the door, a waitress was already waiting with two salad plates ready show us to our table. She was super friendly. I ordered the 16oz ribeye, medium rare, wife ordered the 8oz ribeye, medium. Both stakes came out with the perfect temperature and they were delicious, really tender and juicy! Prices are in-par with other steakhouses, but the ambience is very informal, so if you are looking for a fancy place, this ain't it, but if you are looking for a fine steak, definitely give it a try. Only down side (not a big one) is that they cook their stakes on a flat top, not a grill.
