I adopted a dog from the local shelter who was heartworm positive. The staff was very knowledgeable and professional in the treatment of my dog, and to me, the mama. As for the review of please don't go here..., that dog was probably already messed up before getting services here.

Just like the planning that went into your vacation, there is prep work to do before boarding your pet. Here are some do's and don'ts to help make the process a little easier.
I have gone to Dr. Kohnen for almost a decade - before he even started this practice. He has one of the top practices in San Antonio and keeps up on developments in medicine and equipment. He will say if something is not his expertise and will send you to a specialist. I do rescues at times and have a number of dogs and cats. Some have had some conditions requiring expensive tests. He discusses the pros and cons of testing if you ask. If your animal is elderly or very ill, then he is not aggressive in treatment or testing - always keeping in mind the quality of the animal's life. As noted with other reviews, he is not cheap - neither is he the most expensive. But you are getting an excellent vet with an A&M education, who has kept his education current. His practice is also not a pharmacy for people who are not clients. If you do not intend to bring your animal for annual exams, he will not sell you meds as was noted by another reviewer. I had a diabetic cat and diabetic dog and never had any difficulty getting insulin. My dog lived with diabetes for 8 years and I consider Dr. Kohnen very well versed in treating diabetic animals. I would add to all this that Dr. Kohnen and his staff are charming, friendly and helpful. His vet techs are great as is the groomer on premises.
The post below is very disheartening to me especially since I count the staff at Stone Oak as part of my family. I have taken all of my pets to Dr.Fernandez for the last 15 years and I couldn’t imagine going elsewhere. It appears to me that this family had a terrible experience based on their own lack of attention to detail. Every time I drop my pet off for boarding I read the ENTIRE BOARDING SHEET to make sure no protocols have changed since my last visit, and I make sure every detail of my dogs stay is covered. I appreciate the biannual exam that is given to my pets as it assures me my fur babies are in excellent health. All the receptionists have been nothing but helpful during my visits and every time I have any issues I get it treated in a timely and respectful manor. I understand everybody is entitled to voice their experiences and opinions, and I am voicing mine right now. If you have a bad experience based on your own negligence you have nobody to blame but yourself. I will continue to stand by Dr.Fernandez and his staff and will continue to recommend his clinic and bring my pets there for years to come. Best care in San Antonio with outstanding staff and prices!!
I have been bringing my dog to Northern Oaks for about two years now. I am very pleased with the amount of care he recieves when i bring him in. All of the assistants and receptionists are so happy to see him. Whenever i have a concern or question, all three of the doctors are quick to reassure me in whatever the situation may be. Most of the time it turns out to just be me being a paranoid pet owner, which brings me a lot of relief! This staff makes the health and well being of their patients priority and will always find time to meet their needs, whether its a nail trim or an emergency! They have a life-long client with me, thanks to their compassion and knowledge. The clinic was recently remodeled and looks top notch! Not to mention it is the only animal hospital i have been to that doesnt smell like animals! Whenever i am there, all staff is working diligently to ensure that there are no accidents or messes left of any kind. These are just a few of the many things that set this place apart from all of the rest. I definitely recommend Northern Oaks to any person who truly cares about their pets and wants the best care for them. Go by and see for yourself!!!

I went to the Becker Animal Hospital for the first time after 5pm with my 10 year old large dog who had a swollen red eye that was forming a ball under it. They started to get a rush of people as I was checking my dog in. They put us into a waiting room right away and we waited for about 30 minutes til the doctors came in. My dog was very comfortable with them the minute the doctors walked in. Both Dr. Youssef and Dr. Killi were extremely understanding and fully examined my dog's eye. Both of the doctors took such great care of my dog as if it was their own dog. They provided an estimate of the costs up front and fully explained all the tests they would conduct and how long it could take. They did a thorough eye exam with medicine which was roughly $150 and also gave him his annual shots for about $60. My dog has recovered dramatically in 1 day since it was related to allergies. My dog is extremely happy and himself again. Their prices are excessively affordable and the place is very nice and clean. I have to take my dog in for a follow up exam soon and I know my dog and I look forward to the next visit and future visits.
I would trust Rob Cary with my two dogs on absolutely any occasion. For over two years, I've been taking my dogs to this facility for their grooming appointments, and I have also used Rob Cary's boarding services. After grooming, my dogs come back clean and smelling wonderful. When we board them, they are obviously well taken care of and return to us as happy as ever. In fact, one of my babies even ran back to the tech that brought her out to me because she enjoyed her time so much. Every staff member I have had the pleasure of meeting and talking with has been courteous, kind, and above all respects and loves my dogs as their own. I would not hesitate entrusting the two furry loves of my life to Rob Cary for any of their grooming or boarding needs. I have had nothing but good experiences! If I did, I am confident the team at Rob Cary would do everything they could to make the situation right. Thank you for taking such good care of my furbabies!
I took my puppy in because he had signs of parvo. They wanted him to stay 48 hrs but this was going to be about $1400 which I did not have. I decided to leave him for the 14 hr treatment. I was told I would be called occasionally to keep me updated which I wasn't. I had to call. I was told he was still depressed and had diarrhea. He still had 12 hrs of treatment. The vet calls me in the morning to let me know he is still depressed and I should leave him longer. I said I could afford another day. I went in to pick him up and he was far worse then just depressed!! He literally moan when he saw me and took his last breathe. I was so upset!! How could they say he was depressed he was severely worse then when I had taken him in. Not blaming them for losing him but I would have liked to know he was worse off then they led him to be.
Everyone on the staff has an "above and beyond" attitude. They are willing to go the extra mile whenever challenged and for any reason that involves providing better care for my "kids" after hours, weekends, it does not matter. What matters most to the staff is the care you and your pet are receiving. I am blown away with the incredible service provided. You can't buy this kind of service. They love their clients, animal and reptiles of every kind. You can FEEL this in the way they conduct themselves. I can't think of anyway you can improve this hospital. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart for all the love and attention you have provided my "kids". I will never be able to thank you enough!!! God Bless each and everyone of you!!!
This was my first visit.Carried my cat in for what I thought might be a broken leg. Dr. Wooley examined her right away. He stated she had what looked like possibly a cat bite. He assured me the leg was not broken. He said he would have to operate on the leg to get rid of the infection. He said she would probably have to stay overnight. I explained she had never been without me at night. In reality, it was me that had not been without her. Well, lo and behold. He called me at 7:10 and said I could pick her up. So I was able to pick her up even after closing time. The front office people are very friendly and knowledgeable. They came to the car and got my cat when I arrived, and opened the car door when I left with my cat.
The only good part is that they offer no "extra-fee" emergency care, on the other hand, it is very expensive. My normal vet office was closed one night and i forced to come to Becker hospital. It is more of a Spa day care than a vet office. Expect your bill to be wildly inflated, giving my dog a blood test and a pill cost me almost $400, and in the end they kept insisting on tests, while telling me that the outlook is bad, but there could be hope. I watched the doctor adding on inflated charges for every single thing. Basically, dont expect to get out of Becker Hospital for cheap, some body has to pay for the tile floors and recessed lights...and its going to be you. Stick to your local private vet.
