This is not the first time we have been here to this restaurant; other times the service has been average with better than average food. Great atmosphere and location. Unfortunately, one very poor experience yesterday will prevent us from recommending this place to others, as well as returning to this establishment (now and in the future).
EXPERIENCE: wine and food ordered without any help or recommendations from the wait staff, water and wine glasses were infrequently refilled, received a rare steak that no one asked to recook (as we thought it was too much trouble), split our checks (that was nice) amongst the couples at our table and paid for our checks. The night was ruined when one member of our party returned to the table after being assaulted in the restroom by the waiter, Roger (ID 2210), who proceeded to ask for more tip (or specifically, he didn't tip enough on the bill and that he should leave more than 20% on food and wine). Everyone in our party had a problem with this occurrence and brought the issue up with the Manager. However, the manager argued with each one of us and sided with the waiter -- indicating that the waiters do not make much money, have to share with other employees and many of them feel entitled to 20% or more to be tipped on wine and food for "good" service.
CONCERN: this should never occur, there should never be an assault by the wait staff to ask for more tip (which Is rude and unprofessional), "poor" service and poor treatment at any restaurant does not warrant any tip (especially at this restaurant and this instance!); tips should be earned, not considered an entitlement. Tips should be at the discretion of the customer; in hind sight of this situation, I wish I could have taken the tip back. "Good" service should be part of your experience at a restaurant; it actually makes people want to return if yew had a good experience with good food and great company...If we actually had "good" service or had a large party, these would be different points entirely. To argue with the manager that he insisted this was "good" service and to also recommend we all tip more on the food and wine purchase was also not only frustrating but extremely disappointing ....
We were not impressed

This charming place called me at 4 PM on Valentines day and cancelled my reservation. I asked to speak to the manager but he would not come to the phone. I guess he was not professional enough to actually speak to the people whose plans he messed up. I made a reservation on Feb 8 using OpenTable, received a confirmation that day and again on Feb 13. At 4 PM on Valentines day they call and say they are canceling my reservation. I ask why and they say that they are not honoring web reservations for Valentines day. No offer of rebooking or any consideration. Guess that is the Grill@Leon Springs version of a happy Valentines day.

Last Sunday, 9/4/11, five of us went to The Grill at Leon Springs for Brunch. Within 33 hours all five of us were violently ill (vomiting & diarrhea). It took us a couple days to find out we were all suffering the same symptoms. We have since reported it to the manager (who refused to assume any blame and had many excuses), and the Board of Health (who has had numerous complaints of the same thing and is sending out an inspector today). Be fair warned!

Just yesterday I was telling a very wise person that it is not only the food that make The Grill the wonderful dinning experince that it is but is the atmosphere from the moment you are greeted by the hostes at the door, to the fantastic service that you receive by the bowtie wearing waiters, to the extensive wine seletion, to the fantastic food that is set apart from any other in this town, to the staff that make you feel welcome, to the owners who are hands on( which is very rare these days) to a bar with bartenders who are kind and quick, to the patio where you can listen to music and tons of fun!! Over all the Grill at Leon Springs is fantastic!!!!!!

I will start by saying that I NEVER make complaints about service! I've had hair in food, incorrect orders, overcooked steaks, raw chicken etc. and this is the first time it was a bad enough experience to actually say something. Usually a bad dining experience can be made up to me fairly easily by a good apology. This did not happen here! My girlfriends and I were enjoying a fun weekend away last week and dressed up for a nice night on the town. We read great reviews of this restaurant and decided to give it a try. In the beginning it was honestly not bad. The waiter was nice and the food was pretty good. One of my friends has a very severe food allergy. She made sure to tell the waiter before ordering each dish. He did a good job until the desert! He brought her something that could have made her extremely sick! She spit it out quickly and we all prepared ourselves for a long night caring for a very sick friend instead of enjoying our vacation. I know it was an honest mistake, but he should know that it was a very serious one! So, we called him over to explain what had happened. While we talked with him, the manager overheard our conversation and came over to the table. He never even said sorry!!! He was condescending and rude! I can't believe he spoke to guests that way. It doesn't matter to me if the food was good. The business is run by a very unkind person, and that makes me prefer McDonald's any day!

I went to this restaurant this weekend and had a TERRIBLE experience! I have a serious food allergy and repeatedly asked the waiter to check on every item I ordered. The final course contained an ingredient that I am allergic to and I thankfully spit out the bite once I noticed it. I immediately spoke with the waiter and he said that he neglected to check before placing the order as I had requested. While I was talking with him a man (the co-owner as it turns out) leaned over my shoulder and invaded my personal space. After I asked him to back up he then remarked that he couldn't help himself and proceeded to touch my shoulder! I then told him not to touch me and proceeded to explain why I was upset. He NEVER once said he was sorry for the mistake! He just kept repeating that we should have notified him of the allergy, not the waiter. I explained to him that I did not know who he was and that I have never had a problem at any other restaurant by addressing the waiter only. I then explained to him that other restaurants occasionally have a policy that the waiters contact a manager or chef to take my order and if he wanted to be in the loop he should consider changing his protocol. I will NEVER eat here again!

The food was only decent but the management/owner was AWFUL. We went there in a group to celebrate and a member of our group had a food allergy. She made sure to tell the waiter at each course but when dessert came around it contained something she was allergic to after the waiter said he would only bring it if it did not. She ate some because she trusted that the waiter had checked. The manager and owner came over (we thought to apologize) and instead spoke to us in a condescending manner and had the nerve to repeatedly touch the girl who was explaining her allergy and the seriousness of the matter. Not once did the owner apologize for the mistake, and we had to ask to get anything comped. Of the over $300 bill he only comped the dessert that she was allergic to. He was rude, disrespectful, inappropriate and possibly drunk. It was a terrible experience.

We went to The Grill for our anniversary. I found it a little too expensive for a normal dinner out (about $100 for two people) but good for a special occasion. We had escargot and wine by the glass, followed by a stew for me and a pasta dish for my date. The slow braised pork shoulder was wonderful- the pasta (agnelotti) was a little strange, but good, but not enough food for my rather tall athletic companion. We had creme brulee and a crisp chocolate dessert. The creme brulee was delicious! Not to sweet and with a great crunchy top. We liked the atmosphere as well- quiet but not empty. My only complaint was our particular waiter- he seemed inexperienced and spent a lot of time chatting at another table with someone who was obviously an employee out for dinner.

The Grill is a place I can always count on to have consistantly good food. Yet, sometimes it is over the top excellent! The chefs are creative and willing to please special dietary preferences. The owners are generous to personally inquire how your meal was. Way to please!

Sunday Brunch yesterday was exceptional. I hadn't been to a Sunday buffet brunch in a long time and am generally not too crazy about them. They are generally a lot of mediocre food. This was not mediocre. There was lots of variety and everything I tried was very good. Lots of good and unusual salads, beef, pork, seafood, pasta, chicken entrees were all loved by my family. I would highly recommend it. There were not many people there. It may have been their first attempt at a Sunday Brunch. I don't know but they have any place I've been for a Buffet Brunch beat by a long shot.
