Worse service and pricing at a sushi bar

I would say the Sushi was pretty good. But i'm very disappointed in the service the pricing was very high. To charge me a extra dollar for Jalapeno Chili per roll of sushi i have orders was really disappointing I'm a big fan of sushi and to charge for a extra topping not any type of fish. I will leave my comments and remarks about the poor service and fees for something that should be free. I was letting the service slide but the check and price for what i was charged for i more than likely will not recommend this to anyone i know or online.

Contaminated Sushi

My husband, 6 year old son, & I ordered sushi from the Stone Oak location on Jan. 27th. The 4 rolls we ordered were the California, J, Teo, & Rainbow. Around 1AM both my husband & I began throwing up uncontrollably. The next morning neither my husband nor I were in any shape to go to work as we were both still sick & unable to leave the bathroom for more than 30 minutes at a time. I woke our son up for school assuming that he was fine. Just as he was sitting down to eat breakfast he began throwing up as well. My husband called Sushi Zushi & explained to a manger what had happened. The manager said that the fish they use is one large piece of fish & that no other customers had complained of sickness. Both my husband and I have worked in the restaurant industry for years and been trained and certified in food safety. Just because one large piece of fish is used and no other customers reported getting sick does not disqualify the possibility of contaminated food. The contamination could very easily have come from a dirty knife or cutting board. Plus these ""large"" pieces of fish do not last forever. We could have been served sushi made from the last part of a fish that was left from the previous day. The manager said that he would report it to his district manager and that we should hear back the following day. We were not contacted over the next two days so my husband sent an email to comments@sushizushi. To this day we have never been contacted from anyone at Sushi Zushi on the store level or the corporate level. We have lived in San Antonio for almost two years and eaten at Sushi Zushi over 20 times and never had a problem with the food. The service and wait staff does leave something to be desired but the food has always been up to par. Due to the lack of customer service regarding this matter we will never eat at Sushi Zushi again. With the amount of competition moving into the area Sushi Zushi needs to rethink their customer service attitude.

Sushi Zushi

While I am not a Sushi fan, my daughter and husband were really wanting to take in one Sushi restaurant while we were in town. After my daughter convinced me that some vegetarian roll options were on the menu, I finally agreed. The restaurnat received good marks for the cuisine, although I left that judgement to the two sushi fans in the family. The only other comment about Sushi Zushi is that the atmosphere left something to be desired, as the restaurant did not have a cozy feel about it and a couple of the employees were carrying on a lively conversation that seemed to detract even more from the atmosphere.

Good option for sushi 300 miles from the sea

Pretty standard sushi fare but great selection of rolls. Not an ideal downtown location, but within walking distance of the Westin and a number of offices.

Great Sushi at a reasonable price

My husband and I have gone to Sushi Zushi several times and the only complaint I have is about the wait staff. The servers seem more concerned with standing around in the back corner than actually attending to customers. I have also noticed that the males are paid more attention in a party. My husband's glass (which was in the middle of the table) was filled almost immediately where mine (towards the edge of the table) sat empty for at least 5 minutes. I have waited tables in the past and am never rude towards servers so I know that this was not a factor.

Other than the service, there are no complaints. I find the prices to be reasonable. My husband and I order 4 rolls and a beer each and our tab is almost always about $45 with tip. The fish never has a fishy taste to it and the selection is broad. Regardless of the service, my husband and I love to go to Sushi Zushi.

Wouldn't eat there, wouldn't recommend it.

I visited San Antonio for a month and went to many sushi restaurants. The menu at Sushi Zushi was much more extensive and exciting than most other places, and the wine/sake list was great. Unfortunately, the sushi had a weird taste to it. It took a few pieces to figure it out, but it was the rice. I'm not sure if the chefs are trying to create a ""mexican-japanese"" sushi combo, but the rice they use is definitely not the correct type/flavor. I'm a ""modern"" sushi eater who likes creative rolls; I may not like jalepeno in my sushi, but I respect other people's right to order it. But you can't mess with the basic formula...i.e. the correct rice....and expect it to taste right. I was very disappointed, because the location, atmosphere, waitstaff were all great. I will never eat there again, and would not recommend it to anyone who eats sushi on a regular basis.
