I placed an order for pick up because it was on the way home. The food portion is a small for the price. I ordered the Pad See Eeww & Chicken Satay and I've had better for both plates. I was expecting actually Chinese broccoli but instead I just get the regular that didn't taste so fresh in the noodle dish. I've had better Pad See Eeww in San Antonio (and that's not saying much) The chicken Satay was kinda cold suggesting that it probably pre-cook before an order....It didn't have very good flavors. I could have gone to Thai Corner for the price I paid. I probably would never go back there. 1.5 stars for food & 3.0 stars for service.

I have been to this place twice and both times I was extremely pleased with the over all service and food. The curry is wonderful and very flavorful. I liked the fact that I could get mine a little more spicey. They have great lunch specials and the early bird menu you cant go wrong for 7.99. You get tea, soup, eggroll plus a large portion of food. You definitely dont leave hungry. I have eaten at several other Thai places in SA and this is one of the top for me.

I used to love Sompong's pad thai dish which I thought was the best in town but on a recent visit it came out bland and watery. Plus the meat was not stir fried into the dish but instead seemed to be placed on top to make the dish the beef pad thai I ordered. I was very disappointed since I used to love the food there but I am assuming they have a new chef and their new recipe is not to my liking. The chicken soup that you are served with lunch is very good but unfortunately I have to say its not good enough to get me to eat that pad thai again.

As a newcomer to San Antonio, I am deeply interested in the city's best Thai - my favorite meal out. I stopped by Sompong's at lunch on a weekend. The under-the-glass-tabletop menu did not show appetizers, but I spoke with the waitress and asked for crabmeat fried wantons. What arrived at our table was indeed a fried wanton, but consisted only of chicken (not that it was bad, but it was not equivalent to the excellent cheese wrap (cream cheese and crab) appetizer at nearby Jasmin Thai - truly to die for.) The waitress explained (after they arrived and we had eaten a few and were puzzled) that the restaurant does not use cream cheese, that they don't serve crab wantons, etc - all of which would have been good to know about 10 minutes earlier when I was ordering. A bowl of chicken rice soup was nice and hot, heavy on the rice, but not bad.
For the main course, we inquired about yellow curry. ""Oh,"" said the waitress, ""It's the same as the red."" (This was inherently a little confusing to me. Red is the same as yellow?) She quickly bustled away with our order. When the dish arrived, it was not yellow curry - as its red color, lack of sweetness, and spicy flavoring evidenced. The red curry with chicken and vegetables had a soupy consistency and featured green beans (I had never seen this before - more frequently, I see onions, potatoes, and/or carrots) and an unidentified semi-crunchy white matchstick vegetable (which I have seen before but don't know the name of). The green beans don't do much for the dish.
On the whole, the meal was average - nothing to drive out of your way for. As I did not sample anything from the Chinese side of the menu, I can't address how those dishes were. Service is fast and friendly, although you may want to be crystal clear on what you want and what you are ordering.

We eat Thai food all the time. We were disappointed with the food here. Our spring rolls were overly crispy and bland. The Thai food (red curry, specifically) tasted more like a Chinese stir-fry dish than a Thai dish. However, I would like to add that the person who took our order was very cordial. Having said that, we will not be returning.

Sompong's has the best Thai food I have ever tasted. I had the Thai beef curry, fried rice, spring rolls, and the mango ice cream with sticky rice for dessert.
The Thai beef curry is soooo good - it has pieces of beef mixed in with shredded bamboo and green beans - all covered in some delicious creamy gravy - I think it has coconut milk in it! The fried rice is perfect, not too dry or salty like some places. Oh!! YOU HAVE TO GET THE SPRING ROLLS FOR AN APPETIZER AND MANGO ICE CREAM WITH STICKY RICE ON THE SIDE FOR DESSERT!!! The spring rolls are so good, and you get 10 (about the size of a thumb) for $3.75! The best part of my meal was dessert - homemade mango ice cream with warm sticky rice on the side. Soooo good!!!
