I would trust Rob Cary with my two dogs on absolutely any occasion. For over two years, I've been taking my dogs to this facility for their grooming appointments, and I have also used Rob Cary's boarding services. After grooming, my dogs come back clean and smelling wonderful. When we board them, they are obviously well taken care of and return to us as happy as ever. In fact, one of my babies even ran back to the tech that brought her out to me because she enjoyed her time so much.
Every staff member I have had the pleasure of meeting and talking with has been courteous, kind, and above all respects and loves my dogs as their own. I would not hesitate entrusting the two furry loves of my life to Rob Cary for any of their grooming or boarding needs. I have had nothing but good experiences! If I did, I am confident the team at Rob Cary would do everything they could to make the situation right.
Thank you for taking such good care of my furbabies!

What a great experience we had working with Rob Cary's dog trainers on obedience and basic training for our lab. Fun time, well run class, organized and we were delighted in how much Rob Cary's staff cared about our lab and the other dogs. The staff was encouraging to us and our dog. We took the class wanting to correct some habits our lab had learned rom us, thinking we knew what to do. Not only did our lab excel with the right kind of training and pass with flying colors, we learned so much ourselves. Thank you to the Rob Cary staff from E Jason.

We have used Rob Cary Pet Resort to board, train and groom our pets for many years. Recently, we took our two German Shepherd mixes in for grooming. While grooming the male, the groomer noted a mass in the abdominal area. When we picked up our dogs we were advised of this and immediately took him to our vet. Our vet found two more masses. After a cytology study we were advised the cells in the largest mass were abnormal. Our dog had surgery to remove all three tumors and is doing very well. Thanks to the groomer, Christin, and the staff at Rob Cary Pet Resort! Job well done! We recommend these folks to those who want their animals to get the best!

Pet training was no problem because we were with our dogs the whole time.
We boarded our dogs for almost three weeks and were fined an extra day because we arrived 10 minutes (not exaggerating) late. The owner was in a bad mood and actually yelled and treated us as though we were the enemy. One would expect better treatment when their bill totaled $550 before the fine. When our dogs (both large) were brought out, one had a fully dislocated hip. The owner denied everything and said no one noticed he could not use his leg. The vet said it takes the force equivalent to being hit by a car to accomplish this. Our dog (otherwise healthy) has to live out the rest of his life crippled from this abuse. Our other dog was curiously cowed down and is now intimidated by strangers. We have since heard similar complaints by other former customers.

I was somewhat surprised because I had been to Rob Cary years ago and the staff was very friendly and acted as if my pooch was the only dog in the room. However, when I recently took my dog in for grooming, I was very disappointed.
I was greeted by silence by four people that were behind the desk (one on the phone and the other three chatting amongst themselves. After approximately 3 minutes, they finally asked why I was there (no smile, no enthusiasm...nothing. As if I should be grateful they were helping me!!) and immediately came and took my dog away, didn't say anything to her or me, just led her away. I stood there a little dumbfounded, registered her and while walking out the door, I thought I should turn around and go get her. My bad. I dropped her off at 8:35 am (I called two times betwen 1:00 and 2:30 to find out the status) and wasn't called until 3:10 to come pick her up. All she needed was a bath and trim.
To the owner/manager - I'm sorry but if you are in the ""pet friendly"" business, then YOU NEED TO BE FRIENDLY!! You need to treat your customers as if their dog is the prettiest, cutest, etc. dog you've ever seen. It's not rocket science. Maybe you should get rid of the teenagers and hire a more mature, competent staff that loves to be around animals and people. Just a suggestion.

I am visiting San Antonio on business, and had to fly out to DC on very short notice. I also could not take my service dog with me, so was desperate to find a safe and loving place for her for two days especially as I was flying in and out in what I hoped would be a consistent break in the weather but could not be sure so was really stressing.
I have also been a dog breeder, trainer, and show person for over 40 years, so I really do know my dog facilities, what they should be like, and how to spot a good one.
Rob Cary qualifies as GREAT. The atmosphere is welcoming, and the facility airy and clean. The staff could not have been more helpful nor friendlier, and the accommodations for my girl were high-end and above all SAFE. Everyone I met was wonderful. They even assured me that if I was storm-stayed a day or more that I need not worry, they would keep my girl safe with them until I got back, a real worry for me at the time. She had some meds to be given which was no problem, and she settled in well.
Her suite had a real bed - a big deal as she sleeps on mine, not in a kennel - a sofa, an easy chair, and a tv going to keep her company and muffle ambient noise which might upset her, which is what I do at home too.
She was also away from other dogs, great to keep her stress levels down, and to keep her from being hurt or from picking up any coughs or other illnesses. She had inside and outside access, and lots of room to play and stretch out. Service dogs are different from regular dogs, and Rob Cary was very sensitive to her (and my!) special needs and treated her like family.
Because of the quality of the facility and staff, I did not even feel guilty about leaving her, and was able to take care of business on my trip without being stressed about my girl. They fed her the food I brought, gave her her special treats, petted and played with her, even tucked her in at night and made sure she was fine at all times.
I even had the option of calling and speaking to her on the speaker phone in her suite, but elected not to as I knew that that would make her look for me and I didn't want her to think I was there when I was not! I have had other dogs that would have been great for though.
On picking her up, she was in amazingly good spirits, still liked the staff lol, and the bill was exactly what I had expected, no surprises.
I cannot recommend this place more highly, and strongly urge anyone with a special friend who needs a home away from home for a bit to try here FIRST. I just wished I lived in San Antonio so I could bring her in regularly for grooming, and for agility classes which she would just love. The dogs I saw in a training class while I was there all seemed very well behaved and really happy to be there.
Although they knew I would not be back nor become a long-term client, they took great care of us. We have only been back in the hotel for a little bit today, and she is calm and happy, and her tummy is NOT upset, yay!
So again, a big thank-you to the staff at Rob Cary for helping out a traveler with an emergency, and for your wonderful care of my most important friend and aide. Namaste!

I take my two dog here every two weeks for grooming. When we walk in they are excited and when met with the employees, just dance and beg to be picked up. When we HAVE to board, this is the place they go. I know what my dogs need and relay this information to the employees. They listen. I know to take my own dog food because they have sensitive digestive systems and need what they are used to. I have known the owner Carol, the owner, twenty-five years and know that she and her employees are sensitive to the well-being of your pet. They love animals and do not want them to be unhappy! I know they cannot please everyone all the time but if you talk to them they will respond. Would not take my two Griffs anywhere else!

I have been a customer and avid fan of Rob Cary Pet Resort for almost 6 years. My dogs have had the privilege of staying in a luxury suite. At the end of their stay, they were happy to see me, but not at all stressed.....my mind was immediately put at ease. My grooming experiences have also been a success. The groomers seem to have that gentle touch and professional talent, a great combination that pleased both my dog and me. I have also been a student in the Ring Manners classes offered for show dogs. I learned some handling techniques that have helped me and my cute, but stubborn little puppy learn to love the show ring. I was very impressed with the variety of classes offered, from FREE potty training to grooming, agility and obedience. With such diverse education opportunities, it seems there is something offered for everyone. I love to shop for my dogs. Rob Cary offers a variety of healthy, all natural food and treats, as well as a great selection of toys and accessories that any pampered pet needs; again something for every pet to enjoy. The associates are both helpful and knowledgeable. I have a dog that had lost much of his coat. Tammi recommended a particular food that he loved. I'm proud to say my little guy now has hair! All I can say is thank you Rob Cary for loving, and caring for my dogs, and for giving me the opportunity to educate myself and my pets. Most of my professional career has been spent dealing with the public. All too often, we only hear the negativity and criticism. I put my thoughts into words, because I believe that hard work, professionalism and knowing how to care for pets properly, should be rewarded.

Thanks Gary for a wonderful experience with puppy training class with the newest member of our family, Maggie.
She is a well-behaved and well-balanced dog, responding to her leash as well as our commands. I have no doubt the training will ultimately keep her out of trouble.

I just dropped my 2 cats off at Rob Cary today. It is the 2nd time I've boarded them there and it is the absolute last. Here's the deal folks: if you're not a ""people person"", you shouldn't work behind a desk where you have to deal with people all day long.
I remember the last time I boarded my cats here, I was very unhappy with how I was treated (so how can I trust that these people will treat my cats any better than they do their customers?). But I thought I'd give them a 2nd chance, and I really wish I hadn't. They are the most rude, uncommunicative, cold people I've ever met (and 1 of the people I dealt w/today said he was a manager!). I felt so bad leaving my 2 best buddies there. I went to say goodbye to them and I noticed that there was nothing in their little cages for them to sleep on - just the cold, hard floor. Also, my cats get extremely stressed when I have to board them, so I wanted to leave them their brush and pay extra for a little ""cuddle time"" so they could get brushed, but I was told that the groomers have to do that, so 1) it's even more $, and 2) they won't use my kitties' brush, which is the thing that relaxes them, so what's the point of just having them ""groomed""? They are SO not about the animals there. They won't even give you a quote over the phone for boarding - you have to total it up yourself. Ridiculous.
At least it gave me the incentive to search for some other places closer to me and, hopefully, better (I can't see how they could be any worse). To boot, they have these signs up above the desk encouraging their customers to be nice TO THEM! How hypocritical can you get? Talk about adding insult to injury. I left very stressed and very upset. It's not worth it.

Decided to give them a try after looking at their website and all the things they offer.
My English Bulldog has seizures and is on prescription medication. I brought enough pills for one evening and one morning.
When i picked up my dog they brought my dog and left over pills!! There wasnt suppose to be any leftover pills! I even left a card in the ziplock with the pills instructing them how many to give.
I asked for a manager and told her that my dog could have had a seizure and/or died. All she said was ""sorry"", no customer service skills, no attempt to rectify the situation or refund my money. Terrible!

First visit our dog was brought out with poo on her coat they cleaned her up with alcohol swabs and sprayed a little perfume on her. Since this place was recommended by a friend we decided we would try them one more time. The second vist they didnt groom our dog very well and when we complained the groomer explained to us that this was the way the dog needed to be groomed. This was odd since the first time they groomed her correctly. We got NO apology and were left standing in the lobby with our dog.
I was blessed to become the owner of Athena, my 4 yr old, 85 lb. German Shepherd. She was a rescue dog and I was her FOURTH owner. She was extremely sweet to people, but highly reactive to any and every dog we came into contact with. I had not had a dog in 25 years. I really didn't know where to start, so I made arrangements for a private lesson with Gary Oswalt. He evaluated her and gave me hope that I too could be trained. We have been going to his classes for 16 months because my GSD needs to be socialized on a regular basis. I also go because I can discuss any problems that I may be experiencing due to my lack of knowledge. Gary always takes his time to patientlly explain or recommend how I can accomplish my goals. He never makes me feel that my questions are too simple or that I should be able to figure it out on my own. He is direct in his approach to help you and your dog. And honesty is what I want. The support of fellow handlers in the class is also a plus. As they know what we all face as owners who love their dogs and want them to become good companions. I took Athena to Colorado last summer after about 9 mns of classes and she was a delight. She was finally getting ""it"" about other dogs. She became certified by Gary last Sept for a Canine Good Citizen. I will continue to take her as I have learned that it is never to late for both of us to learn something new. I know that Gary does this for the love of dogs because he can never be paid enough to get the results that I have gotten. Thanks Gary!!!
I am a long time employee at Rob Cary and as someone who takes pride in her work I was quite upset to read the negative comments. I can assure you that any activity not in the best interest of our guests is promptly addressed and severely dealt with. Such behavior is simply not tolerated and while I would never condone any such incidents occurring I am confident these are extremely isolated instances. Unfortunately, right or wrong, it is usually these isolated instances that get the headlines and not the positives that extremely outweigh the negatives. That is not meant to excuse the negatives but to put the proper emphasis on the positives that have been associated with Rob Cary for over 30 years. Any business that is open to the public faces the exposure of an employee not doing things the right way. That is why employees get fired. It then becomes the employer's responsibility to take prompt, corrective action, which we do. Tamsie, Supv Special Care.

I've not had the occasion to use the boarding facilities at Rob Cary, but my rottweiler and I have been training there for almost three years now. My dog and I were matched up to Gary, after the front office staff met me, and heard the training challenges I was facing with my adolescent male dog. They could not have paired me with a better trainer, and I'm quite sure Gary's expertise and positive training methods, quite literally saved my dog's life. I have and will continue to recommend Rob Cary's training program, as well as Gary specifically, to anyone who asks about dog training facilities/options in the San Antonio area.
As with all things of any importance, when trusting your companion animals to someone else, you should do your homework, to include a visit the facility prior to needing their services, and ask for fellow customer referrals. Any reputable facility will be more than willing to share that information, and more than willing to show you full access of their kennels.
And while we all wish we were the only human worthy of attention at the moment in time we demand it - sometimes, we have to be patient and wait our turn.......keep that in mind when checking in and out your pet during a busy period for boarding.
Don't come to check in/out your pet if your schedule is tight to begin with - allow proper time, so the process is as non-stressful for your pet, as yourself. The staff at Roby Cary will likely smile at you for the consideration ;o) You are only one of several hundred they are likely assisting that day.

Me and my husband have been boarding our dogs at Rob Cary for over 15 yrs. We have done tours many times and have seen the clean facilities and also have taken many different classes there ranging from puppy training, obedience and agility training. We have also been through private lessons with Gary who is very talented and motivated working with dogs of every breed. The moment we pull into their parking lot our dogs get very excited. The front office staff have always made us feel welcomed and warm. Especially the Ken Techs that check in our babies. Our dogs have always came home clean and fresh whether or not they get groomed. Yes, sometimes their toys don't always come back or in the same condition. I would rather keep boarding our dogs at Rob Cary and having them groomed there than having someone come into my home when we are not there. At least we know that they are safe, secure, loved and respected in every possible way imagined. We could never go anywhere else other than Rob Cary. We are very appalled by reading all of these negative reviews. No, not everything we do in life is going to be perfect, but over the years we have never seen any customer get upset over their service. If anything its because their dogs chewed up and/or destroyed their toys or soiled the bedding. We hope that these negative reviews are not just a matter of disgruntled customers trying to bash Rob Cary. Never in our right minds would we believe that they have horrible customer service or are EVER abusive to animals. They are very kind and caring people there, especially since they have animals of their own and would not treat them any differently.
