Dr Kohnen & his staff are very friendly, caring & professional. Dr Kohnen has a great relationship with my 15 yr old shih tzu & 10 yr old Maltese. They also get groomed here and love it!

We take our yorki there for his shots and just about everything else needs. We're even going to have him neutered by Dr Kohnen , so professional and caring. They're definitely not the kind of vet clinic that gives you a bunch of fancy mumbo Jumbo, they take time to explain things in a way anyone can understand. Doodle looks forward to his visits and we highly recommend this veterinary clinic :) They're clean, affordable and most professional!

I have known Dr. Kohnen for years, even before he opened this location. He has always been professional and upfront in his treatment of my four legged children.

Always taken great care of my 4 dogs. Dr. Kohnen has been our vet for as long as he's been on Bulverde road. I was one of his first clients.

I have gone to Dr. Kohnen for ...

I have gone to Dr. Kohnen for almost a decade - before he even started this practice. He has one of the top practices in San Antonio and keeps up on developments in medicine and equipment. He will say if something is not his expertise and will send you to a specialist. I do rescues at times and have a number of dogs and cats. Some have had some conditions requiring expensive tests. He discusses the pros and cons of testing if you ask. If your animal is elderly or very ill, then he is not aggressive in treatment or testing - always keeping in mind the quality of the animal's life.

He is not cheap - neither is he the most expensive. But you are getting an excellent vet with an A&M education, who has kept his education current.

I had a diabetic cat and diabetic dog. My dog lived with diabetes for 8 years and I consider Dr. Kohnen very well versed in treating diabetic animals. He also diagnosed Immune mediated syndrome in one of my dogs and another had PLE! So, I would say there is little he has not seen.

I would add to all this that Dr. Kohnen and his staff are charming, friendly and helpful. His vet techs are great as is the groomer on premises.

His practice is also not a pharmacy for people who are not clients. If you do not intend to bring your animal for annual exams, he will not sell you meds as was noted by another reviewer. I had a diabetic cat and diabetic dog and never had any difficulty getting insulin. My dog lived with diabetes for 8 years and I consider Dr. Kohnen very well versed in treating diabetic animals.

I would add to all this that Dr. Kohnen and his staff are charming, friendly and helpful. His vet techs are great as is the groomer on premises.

Not impressed, won't go back, will be sure to tell everyone.

I moved to SA almost three months ago. This is the most convenient vet's office for me.

I went in two days after moving here and explained that I have two cats, one of whom is 15 and diabetic. I just wanted to ensure that I could buy his diabetic supplies there. Mind you, I have done this in Houston for YEARS with no problem whatsoever.

They said it wasn't an issue, just to have my cat's vet fax his records over. They sold me 2 boxes of syringes. I confirmed that food and insulin would not be a problem - they confirmed on the records and said it would not be an issue.

Now that I am out of food, I swing by to pick some up and am told I can't buy it. I have to see the vet. I say that they have all of his records and recount the conversation I had with them in August. Nope - they want to see my cat (office visit - $$$, glucose testing - $$$).

What a sham. My cat has had the same vet for 6 years and he went through HELL getting to the right insulin dose in the first place. I don't trust anyone else to mess with his meds. I explained this and they said that having him come in for a visit was important for them to ""establish a relationship with the patient"". I said I didn't want a relationship - I just needed to buy supplies. I already have a lovely relationship with my vet (who has me call her cell at any time day or night if I ever have a problem).

As an FYI, I can buy both his prescription cat food and his insulin online, but this takes a few weeks' planning so that I don't run out in between. I feel they misled me and that they are only interested in making money rather than building a solid reputation and good relationship within the community. Not somewhere I would EVER take my beloved cat. I've already spent thousands and thousands on him - this is not about money. It's about his safety, health, and well-being. I feel they have jeopardized that by leaving me without his supplies when they told me months ago everything was in order.

WAY too expensive..and they want more!

I started going to this vet a few months ago and they were OK and very conveniently located for me. A short time ago I had a dog neutered, his teeth cleaned and his shots done at this office. My bill was over $800!!! That is ridiculous! On top of it all, after I brought my dog home my other dogs started coughing. It sounds like kennel cough. My dogs don't go anywhere and have never been sick. I have 6 dogs....so I can only think, after researching what I already knew, my male brought this home from the vet. I called and asked them about it. Instead of telling me to just bring the dog in so they could have a look (in case this was contracted at their office) they wanted me to make an appointment....$$$. When I wouldn't do that they were sure it was just allergies, BUT I still needed to make an appointment . My dogs have never had allergies! Why now all of a sudden? I am very disappointed at this type of non-professional attitude.....and that my dogs are now sick! I certainly won't use them anymore. I am going to another vet today to have my dogs checked and get to the bottom of this.

Don't be fooled !!

The DVM just graduated in 2009, she has no experience with clients, and just wanted to run a bunch of test. When I asked what it would benefit, she stumbled. Plus she hurt my dog with her exam. Needless to say, I would never go back. And then she charged me $45 for NOTHING. I want my money back!
