Took my healthy dog (English Bulldog) to get spayed. PLEASE READ:
*Then they began to nickel and dime me for things you'd think would be included in the higher-than-most-places spay fees (e.g., pain medicine).
*During the time leading up to the procedure my dog hurt herself in their kennels and I was forced to foot the bill.
*After picking her up I noticed they trimmed one of her nails too short which caused her bleeding (and surely pain).
***The next morning my poor dog was DEAD.
Dr. Curd is excellent. She is very detail oriented when she is speaking to you about your animal. I only wish that when I call and leave messages for her to call me back that she would get the messages. Other than that I enjoy taking me animals to Ellison Drive.

I have been to lots of vets and Dr Curd and her staff are amazing. I appreciate that I was able to ask the questions of Dr Curd that I wanted to ask about my dogs situation. I was blown away by the staff, from the receptionist when I called to make an appointment, to the tech assisting Dr Curd all the way through to paying for the services I received and the follow up after we left. I highly recommend this clinic!

I took my dog there. It was okay but I have had better experiences at vet clinics. Since I am military I thought that I would give it a chance, I may need a place to board my dog. Well I took him to be seen for a minor problem that he has been treated for several times in the past. I only paid $68 for the treatment and meds at my other vet clinic. When I left there I was out of $214.
It would have been more if I had not protested additional meds that he really did not need. This place also needs additional staff. You wait an eternity to be seen. I thought healthcare for humans was costly. LOOKOUT PETOWNERS....JEEZ. Like my headline states, I would use this as a last resort. I will go to PetSmart since it will cost about the same, but at least we will be seen on time.

I took my cat to an emergency vet and was quoted $1200 for his care. The doctor even explained to me that it might not even make a difference as my cat was in ""very bad shape."" He even told me I should put him to sleep because of a swollen face and a sinus infection! Needless to say I did not feel like putting him to sleep was even necessary for this situation.
The very next morning I took my cat in to the Ellison Drive Vet Hosp and they saw me right away without an appointment. The doctor was really nice, helpful and explained in detail what she did and why she did it. The costs were reasonable as well and the staff was very courteous. The bottom line is that my pet is now fine, is eating again and has gone back to his attention seeking ways!

I adopted a 10 yr. old cat for the shelter. When Dr. Curd did a check on her, she discovered she had a heart problem. She tried everything to find a way to treat it and make my newly adopted cat feel more comfortable. She took time during her lunch to discuss procedures with me in depth so I would know exactly what was happening to the newest member of family. Dr. Curd was so compasionate and caring, she stayed late many a night with me. I adopted Dawn because I know that older cats will usually get stuck in shelter until they die. Dawn has been such a joy and Dr. Curd has helped us help her.

I called EDAH after my regular vet was was unable to provide a ""fast"" appointment for my extremely sick cat. I was able to get a SAME DAY appointment late in the day. After several tests, Snuggles was diagnosed with Diabetes. Dr. Curd explained everything completely, she was fast but thorough. I knew I was in for some serious vet bills (the staff gave me an estimate prior) and was offered the insurance option, but declined. I was able to pay AFTER his stay (3 days) which gave me time to gather my funds. It has been about 2 months since Snuggles was diagnosed and I buy the diet food and insulin directly from EDAH which prices are expensive but comparable to (1800petmeds and petRX). I have realized that owning a diabetic pet is going to be expensive. If you are a pet owner, you must be willing to pay what is required for a healthy happy pet. If you are not willing then maybe you shouldn't be a pet owner. I recommend EDAH to anyone if you want a friendly, knowlegable veterinarian staff.
I feel everyone can learn from a review negative or positive. Once in awhile you read something that is completely off base however. In the case of the review dated 5/26/2009 "Wouldn't you want to know" it was spelled misspelled "Woldnt" I feel it necessary to respond. I am the current office manager at Ellison Drive Animal Hospital and I have felt very proud of the ethics, professionalism and manner in which Dr. Lori Curd and Relief Doctors and the entire staff treat their clients and patients. I have found us to go beyond the call of duty when it comes to trying to prepare for the difficult part of treatment for their pets, that being the financial part. We prepare estimates and do our very best to tell them everything that can be eliminated if needed, starting with the best course of treatment first, then reduce by the client's availability or limitations of funds. We offer care credit, we prioritize and make every effort to do what is best for the client and their pet.
It is important to write this so that potential customers reading this will understand the source. I looked back at the date and the pet's name and it coincides with emotional termination of a prior employee. We realize that this was posted many months ago and unfortunately was just brought to my attention. FYI: We have asked that the person involved be notified through the "report abuse" option on the posting. We have ask her to do the right thing and remove the review. We really hope that you will take the time to come in and find out for yourself. Dr. Curd is passionate about helping you to take care of your pet and provide the best possible care.

i took my pet to edah about 2 months ago and will never go back my appt was at 2:30 and didnt get seen until after three i think they should schedule better, the techinician didnt seem like she knew what she was talking about when they gave me the estimate of what they wanted to do i nearly had a heart attack talk about highway robbery i approved some of the estimate then when paying for my bill was charged for stuff that wasnt done i'll tell you what those people know how to get there money i should have known when walking in i felt a negative vibe i now go to st. francis and love the staff and drs they make you feel so wlecomed and like they care im so sorry that my mitzy had to experience edah my dog was so terrified when we left.
The doctor was compassionate to our needs and very knowledgeable about what to do in order to help my daughter's cat. I would highly recommend Dr. Curd's services.
I'm not sure why some people thought this vet clinic was a money trap, but they took great care of us. All fees were explained prior to any services. They even took steps to help reduce my bill and ensure that I felt comfortable in giving the required medication to our cat.
If you walked into a medical clinic without insurance or military backing you wouldn?t be served for free or for pennies. Medical treatment for pets cost about the same as humans. I am a client and friend of Dr. Curd. It is very disturbing to think there are individuals who are so ignorant and argent about pets and people. Dr.Curd is a christen woman who for the past two years has been running her Vet clinic and taking care of her 3 kid?s while her husband has been serving our country in Egypt and Iraq. I find it insulting when ignorant and argent people expect a free ride, and when they don?t get one; they take it out on innocent people. All I can say is MY GOD HAVE MERCY on those who judge with such self-centered argent hearts. Bye the way this past summer I had to have my 15 year black-lab boxes mix put down. Dr.Curd came to my home and helped my family with this hard decision. Unless you own a large farm animal most Vets don?t make house calls.
Satisfy and Grateful Costumer
I love this hospital...i've been a client for about 5 years now and all i can say is that the staff and doctors at ellison are GREAT!!!! Any time terminator needed anything all i had to do was call and they were able to fit me in their schedule, unlike my son's doctor's office which is usually booked about 1 week in advance. I love the fact that i am able to drop him off for daycare and get everything i need done whether it's shots or grooming this place is a one stop shop. As far as prices goes well let me just say they never tried to drain my wallet. They are able to give you estimates after the initial exam and that allows me to see what is in my budget. Dr. Curd and Dr. M are wonderful careing people and i would not have any other doctor touch my pet. It's like what Dr. Curd says she is our other family doctor. To this day still refer everyone i know to them and every new client I send them i get a $10 credit so as far as my concern its a win win situation. LOVE THEM!!!!!
I'm very familiar with pets and their care. I care for strays, fix them up then adopt them out to good homes. Every stray I have brought there has been lovingly cared for, at a reasonable ( not cheap) price, similiar prices to many other vets . They have even scanned for microchips (no charge )and boarded the pets. I believe they have three strays for adoption I saw when I attended their open house saturday, The doc's have paid for all their food and care until homes can be found. I have never expected the care of my strays to be at no cost. So how can an owner complain about the cost of lab work or what sounds like a health certificate for travel, or a bladder infection on a pet they own? I have never had the doc's there do any tests that were not needed or asked for first. Are we sure this is the same doc she saw? Surely it was a misunderstanding on the clients part. She probably did not fully understand what she agreed to or changed her mind. Also, spays at Ellison are 100-200 dollars not 700 don't believe it!!!!!!!!! I have had 4+ pets surgeries performed there the charges were under 200. Must have been ill pet or something they aren't telling you.One time when my pet stayed to board I called every day. They would just reassure me that everything was ok, gave me info on his mood, appetite ect.. Nikki loves it there.
I believe that the clinic really does have concern for military by offerring the discount, they were one of the first to add this in 2003. I have been with them that long!!! I also believe the owner's husband served in 2 tours for Operation Enduring freedom. I don't even have to defend them on the Quack comment , I agree with above Very Childish attack .. Truthfully, these people really have it together, I know where their hearts are and they are doing the right thing. This is a rare thing to find. You just can't please them all.
I will continue to send everyone I know that moves here, PCS, trainee or permanent move to this clinic.
Ellison Drive Animal Hospital is the greatest place i've ever been to for animal care service! I actually adopted a dog from EDAH and she is a wonderful dog, very playful and healthy. I take her every month for a check up and i am always sure she is well taken care of! i've actually been shown the clinic behind closed doors and their facility is very neat, clean, smells fresh (unlike any other boarding facility i've seen before), and the staff and doctors were so kind and caring to my dog and my concern for my dog's health. If you value your pets life, you better not think twice; trust Dr. Curd and Dr. M and the rest of the staff with your animals, they know their stuff!! Recommend this hospital to anyone and everyone you know!
First and foremost Ellison Drive is one the best vet clinics in san antonio. Doctors and staff are very compasionate and try their hardest to accomodate both health and safety of animals as well as clients financial budgets. Offering care credit as a type of payment plan makes it an option for clients to be able to provide care for there animals in time of need or emergency.
Treatment is never taken in action without a VCPR. Vet-client patient-relationship and a full understanding of the pets condition. An estimate of treatment is given and signed authorization is needed by owner. The importance of diagnostic testing is to narrow down what factors are abnormal in a pet. Pets cannot talk therefore it is VERY important. It is also important in chosing the correct medication to be suscribed to a pet.
For the bad reviews that are on here, I expect for anyone to know more about veterinary medicine before mentioning ""bad medicine"" than to just focus on the cost! Talking bad about doctors or vet medicine does not count as a substantial fact, Nor is it mature in any way.
ummm newsflash having a dog isnt cheap dont have anmals if your not goin to accept the bill of having them animals get sick just like humans get over it i think dr curd is a wonderful vet and the staff really cares for the pets as if they were there own they get plenty of business dont bash them just get another vet if you got a problem
