My family and I have been eating at ElMaracumbe for over 20 years! The food is always tasty and fresh. I love the shrimp and spinach enchilla plates. The tortillas are homemade daily by their tortilla lady. The margaritas and flan are pretty yummy too. El Maracume has a cozy, friendly and comfortable atmosphere for couples, families and big parties (yes, they have a party room too)! The prices are very reasonable too. Since it has been in busines for over 30 years, with lots of great news paper reviews, it is definitely a jewel of the San Antonio community.

My wife and I go here all the time. We are always greeted with a smile and a handshake from our waiter. The food is really good I especially like the Anna Maria plate. The service had always been fast and my plates are always served as ordered. As another review here states the salsa is to die for. I have taken many of my friends here and will continue to do so as we are never disappointed.

I have eaten at El Maracumbe since I was in high school too. My favorite food is still shrimp enchilladas and fish veracruz. Now I bring my kids (4 and 10 years old) and husband there. They enjoy the food and drinks too! We were there just a week ago and they were celebrating their 30 year anniversary. They had a magician come to our table and my daughter had lots of fun. This is a great place to eat and entertain in San Antonio. I have had 4 kids birthday parties there. The prices are very reasonable too!

My partner and I were asked by the owner to sit across from each other if we wanted service or we could choose not to dine there anymore. She got up to do so but I felt humiliated and upset. We had done nothing wrong. Not even held hands. We got up and left. Will never return there again. I had never experience anything like this before in my life.

My veteran's group meets there about once a month. We usually meet in their ""party room"". A couple times we didn't call in advance to reserve the room. Since there was noboy in there we asked if we could use it anyway, the manager on duty said, ""Nope, you have to reserve, and we had to sit in the normal dining room to have our meeting. Normally, that would have been my last time there but it's a convenient location to some of the members.
The food is just okay...nothing to brag about.
