I received a $5 coupon via email and expected to use it tonite. We finished our meal and was then informed by the waiter that it would not apply to the entrees we ordered, although the coupon did not state any restrictions. I spoke to the manager, Geena, and was astounded by her unprofessional m…

All around, a top notch restaurant. I'd driven by it many times and really hadn't thought much of it; sort of unassuming in a strip mall on the northwest corner of 1604 and Redland Rd (new address). It was highly recommended to me by a trusted source, so I thought I would give it a shot. I was v…

when my husband and i were trying to find a place to eat for our last night in san antonio on our getaway, we had it narrowed down to two places: the iron cactus and ritas. we just knew we wanted margaritas and mexican food. we wanted them to be good but at just before 7:00, we didn't think we would have to worry about making our plans right before 10 pm. HAHA were we wrong. ANYWAYS, after reading reviews on another website, we chose here because rita's had "horrible service and margaritas". did someone get them mixed up?! they are kind of close to each other. our waiter was ok- at first. i have been waiting tables for 6 years and bartending for 4 of them. when a waiter is nervous or has a bad night, i can tell, but i am sympathetic. but what i am NOT sympathetic to is being ignored or lied to. my husband asked what the difference between the margarita and the mexican martini size/price and our waiter told us it was DOUBLE THE SIZE... well for only 3 dollars more, it just made sense(from what he told us, DOUBLE THE SIZE, right?!?!?) so my husband ordered it and i a strawberry margarita, regular size. about 20 minutes later after our waiter had checked on his other tables several times without asking us if we were ready to order, we get our margaritas and they are NOT at all what they should be. my "strawberry" margarita was a house margarita with a tiny bit of strawberry swirled around the glass... i should have just gotten a house i guess. my husband's margarita was in a glass 2 oz. bigger than mine(we have them at the place i work) and since my margarita wasn't an ounce big... it was NOT twice the size. totally disappointed. it tasted good though. after 2 hours waiting for our food it took another 40 minutes waiting for our check(other tables of fernando's had the same problem), we contemplated asking for our bill several times(for the drinks, before the food came out), and right before we did it our food came out. it was lukewarm, my husband's fajitas were not sizzling and my queso was cold. by now it was 9:10 and we were so mad we just wanted to leave. we finally got to leave iron cactus at 9:40.. an almost THREE HOUR dining NIGHTMARE... at least the food could have been hot. i would have complained to the manager that night but it seems that a bunch of people beat me too it. we really had to make it to our other obligations, luckily we did. i knew that harassing a manager wouldn't make me feel better but maybe warning other people would...
My husband & I ate lunch here on 10/5/08. The small parking lot was full, so we had to park across the street. We also had to stand in line outside to wait for a table. I saw this restaurant featured on the Food Network's show Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. Therefore, I was expecting the food to be great, but it wasn't. I think I make better food at home. We ordered sodas and we were served a 12-oz can Diet Coke and an 8-oz bottled Dr. Pepper. So there are no fountain drinks here. We had an order of onion rings as an appetizer. We were pleasantly surprised with the quantity of the order and the size of the rings themselves. They used a mild onion and the rings were crispy, but they lacked flavor (no seasoning that we could taste). I had the chicken fried steak dinner, which comes with French fries, garden salad and a roll. The chicken fried steak was large in size, but the taste could have been much better. If they used salt and pepper while cooking it, I would be completely surprised. The gravy tasted as though it was made from scratch and I thought it was good. The fries were obviously frozen and I doubt the rolls are made from scratch either. The salad was on the same plate as everything else and contained no tomatoes. I had the house dressing on it and thought it was better than our waitress described. My hubby ordered a cheeseburger, which we expected to be big, but it was just average size. While the patty was tender, it had no seasoning he could taste. He told me he's had comparable burgers out of vending machines before. Also, the restrooms are outside behind the building. On a positive note, the prices are reasonable and all of the staff was friendly. This is a family restaurant, which started in 1938 and has been passed down to future generations. With the decor, stepping inside here was like going back in time. The history and nostalgia was the best part of our dining experience. I don't expect to ever go back. Sorry Guy Fieri, but we were very disappointed in the food here.
I have visited this location for dinner several times but this last visit was the first time I have ever ordered dessert. I ordered their dessert minis which are strawberry cheesecake, key lime pie, and chocolate trifle. I ordered one of each and thought they were very cute when the waitress brought them out. They were all lined up in shot glass like dishes with the spoon sticking straight out. For being so small they defiantly got your attention. The Cheesecake was probably my favorite, it was nice and creamy and had a wonderful flavor in the graham cracker crust and paired with the strawberries was very delicious. It was also a nice alternative to the traditional presentation of cheesecake. The key lime pie i didn't like so much though. The flavor of the key lime was pretty spot on it was just the crust that made the dessert not what it could have been. The crust tasted as if it could have been frozen and then thawed out or like a stale vanilla wafer cookie crumble. The chocolate trifle would have been my favorite since it was for sure made for a chocolate lover like myself but the mousse that was layered in between the cake was a one-note item. It had great texture but that was about all you got from it, it needed some added flavor like a liquor or a coffee or hazelnut or something to give it something special. The chocolate cake that was in it though was very good and my favorite part of that dessert it was light and moist and had just the right amount of chocolate flavor. One thing about the cheesecake and key lime that i didn't like was the whipped cream. It tasted like it came from a can and a bit oily it was not anything like a fresh whipped cream so that is one thing i would definitely change. I had a overall great experience and minus the few set backs in the desserts i did really enjoy them. I would just suggest a few alterations and then i would most defiantly order them again.
I am not sure if many places...especially of the fast food sorts...would fit the bill for a 5-star rating. Still, Podna's Catfish and Po'Boys was an easy choice for a top rating. Having spent 6 months living in San Antonio, this place became one of my favorites. Although it is a place that could be easily overlooked on Austin Highway, and generally would not be fit for a 30 minute lunch if you work downtown, I found as many opportunities to go back as my co-workers would allow. The food in general is really good, but of course, you should shoot for the po'boys. My favorite was the 12" 1/2 fried oyster, 1/2 fried shrimp. Whatever you choose, it is overflowing with meat, the roll that it comes in is fresh and the sauce that you can add on your own is great. The fries weren't necessarily my favorite, but they are still really tasty and not overly fried or salty. This is a pretty basic restaurant, and watch out for the high noon lunches, as it might be difficult to find a table. But the staff is really nice and the owner, who willingly shares about his visit to New Orleans which led to the start of his business, is definitely a friendly character. Although I was never that rushed, they even have a drive-through, and I have heard that you can call in orders and have them cater. Now, I am off to new eating adventures in Dallas, TX as a next step in my own professional pursuits, but Podna's will definitely be on my list when I take my next trip to SA.
I haven't been in San Antonio in over 6 years and a buddy of mine agreed to try this place for dinner. When you walk in, the entire area looks like it has not been vacuumed in at least two days. The woman who seated us was rude and quickly told us that our waitress will be with us and walked off to talk to someone near the bar. We ordered the steak and wild mushroom flat bread, and boy was it flat. It fell apart when you tried to pick it up and the quality of the food was mediocre at best. Halfway through my coca-cola, I had the distinct pleasure of having something that was not ice go into my mouth. It looked like part of a nail, but I couldn't be sure. I got passed it and got another drink. This particular restaurant has an outside section to be able to view the RiverWalk and we witnessed over 25 pigeons, ranging from different sizes of height and weight having their way around two tables that had leftover food and plates from previous patrons who had left. It got so bad that another patron tried to get the pigeons to fly away. After 10 minutes of this and myself and others filing this, one of the waiters finally came out and tried to remove the plates. I ordered the New York 12 ounce steak and it was cooked very well. I didn't have any complaints regarding the steak, broccoli and potato. This is honestly not that bad of a place to eat, I will more than likely never eat there again just because of the issues I had when I went.
This was my first time eating at LHSH and i'd like to remind servers that 1st impressions are key! The food on the menu all looked delicious, the host asked if we were ready to order our drinks before we even sat down, my hubby looked at me and said uh, no. She gave us our menus, and said i'll be back, a couple minutes later, while taking in all the menu options they had she came back and asked what we'd like to drink, while i was waiting on my husband to answer, i was looking at the entree's, she actually flipped my menu over and said the drinks are back here and pointed to the menu, i said ok, and decided on a raspberry tea, which was tasty. Then she asked for our order, again i was waiting on my hubby to order while I was still not sure of what i wanted, i just gave in to the Black and Blue Burger, which was excellent! I love Blue Cheese! But after our food got to the table the check was already placed on our table too! Then after eating half my hamburger, the waitress refilled my tea, then asked if i wanted a to go box, i said no, thank you, she then left and came back with a box and said here you go, just incase you need it, how considerate! NOT! Just made me feel really rushed, and it was after lunch time, with hardly any customers! I may try it again at a different time of day, or I may try another location.
My husband and I just returned from Bohanan's where we spent our 8 year anniversary. WOW! Truly awesome dining experience. The concierge was very friendly and made you feel welcome right after you step off of the elevator. The restaurant was "business casual" attire, but was still very comfortable, even for me (I'm a jeans and t-shirt kind of person). The menu had many options and the prices were very reasonable, especially for such a great atmosphere. My husband ordered the red snapper and wild rice. The snapper practically melted in your mouth. Unfortunately, the wild rice was a bit "too wild" for my husband's taste. It tasted pretty good, but the texture was too weird to overcome. As for myself, I ordered the jumbo shrimp and potatoes augratin. When they say "jumbo", they really mean it. I have to say that I was amazed at how wonderful the shimp was. Right amount of breading, amazing flavor.. pure perfection. The potatoes augratin was pretty good, too. The only problem is that my stomach wasn't big enough to finish it all. If you go, I would reccomend "Mo" and "Daniel". Daniel is a bit quiet, but Mo is great! I definitely reccomend Bohanan's. It's my husband and I's new favorite get away in San Antonio.
In an era of cutting corners and passing along the bill to the customers, its great to know that their are restaurant owners who still care about the community they are a part of. The staff at Tresca are proud of their ellegant spot in the Plaza at Concord on Sonterra. The hostess explained to us that tresca meant "a love affair." And that the owners indeed have a love for the city they are part of. All of the art is local, and the food is exceptionally fresh crisp and tasty. The server informed us that Tresca is commited to using friendly farm meats and organic veggies. The wine list is extensive yet not over priced and if your group has varied tastes you can order bt the caraffe, glass, bottle, or just a splash. I thought this offering was unique and perfect for diners in this area. I love trying different wines, and it is obvious that Tresca has designed their wine menu with their guests in mind. The service was the best Ive had in quite a while. When it came time to move between courses, it felt as if the entire staff made our group the priority! Thank you and we will be back soon.
This restaurant has always been an icon in San Antonio. I remember going there as a child with my parents, brothers and sisters. This year, I have visited the restaurant twice and didn't think it could get much better, especially for the value, but it has. And it has grown to accomodate their loyal customer as well as their growing market. While other big restaurants in San Antonio are closing their doors, it is wonderful to see the family owned and operated Little Red Barn is not only growing, but set to give their customers even more value. My medium rare steak was just as good as other steak houses that I would pay much more for, and within seconds, I had my salad in front of me. Thank you Little Red Barn Steak House for giving us San Antonions a restaurant we still believe in and it shows you still believe in San Antonio and your customers. It's also great to know that your expansion will accomodate even bigger private parties and events.... I will highly recommend your establishment for lunch, dinner and private parties. I'ts fun to eat at Little Red Barn Steakhouse.
On the spur of the moment my grandson picked Ounce Steakhouse as the choice for his birthday dinner. We arrive about 5:30 and immediately thought we were very underdressed for the restaurant (me with t-shirt, him in flipflops). But the host staff welcomed and assured us our dress was just fine. That set the atmosphere for the entire evening. The waiter was efficient, friendly, and very helpful in explaining how the restaurant serves their steaks. They have three grades of beef and you can order whichever grade you want and then whatever size steak you want. My grandson loved this! The food was surperb! It was fresh, full of flavor, and tasted wonderful. The steak was cook to perfection! While not large, they do have a nice wine selection. My grandson ate every bite of his 12-ounce prime ribeye and all the mac and cheese. We even had a delicioust piece of chocolate cake served with a very large sparkler and Happy Birthday written in chocolate on the plate. This was my first visit to Ounce Steakhouse but it will definitely not be the last!
