I am new to San Antonio, and I was thrilled to be introduced to Little Italy. The restaurant's interior reminds me of a cute little Italian restaurant I used to go to when I was growing up in Chicago. We were warmly greeted at the door, and led to a cozy booth for two. The service was excel…

While staying in San Antonio we didn't have a car and were trying to save every dollar possible, which meant walking instead of taking the bus. So we walked all the way from the other side of San Antonio town to get to this little cafe. It is literally situated in what feels like the middle of n…

First off to those who appreciate hard work and dedication we truely appreciate your business. For those who have nothing good to say about our restaurant we apologize for either giving you poor service or poor quality food, however if you choose to hide behind the internet and are not adult enough to address the problem while at our establishment then shame on you.I guess it is not easy to speak up and say what you feel because you are either afraid or have no backbone. I will have you know that in my eight years in business I have tried very hard to please as many people as I can,But I have come to the realization that people love to bring good people down and that you just can't please everyone. Everyday we open up and try the best that we can to deliver a fresh product. We make all our products fresh daily from our sauces to our dough, but we are far from perfect as some of these lovely customers love to point out. But I challange them to try and serve the public! As for my guy with the tatoos he is loyal and honest and has never had a problem with the law he just likes body art.If you have a problem with him please speak up I know he can be tough and to the point but please understand we sometimes deal with very rude people, and it's just not easy to sit everyone at the same time because of the big parties we attract. So we apologize for any inconvenience.AS FOR THE LADY THAT HAS SLAMMED ME ON EVERY SITE POSSIBLE PLEASE COME IN AND I WILL REFUND YOUR MEASELY $8.00,BUT SO YOU KNOW A PIZZA CAN TAKE TIME TO BAKE, WE ONLY TOOK 20 MIN. TOTAL FOR YOUR COMPLETE ORDER,PLEASE TRY HARD TO TELL THE TRUTH, THERE IS MORE TO THE STORY , YOU AREN'T PRESENTING ALL THE FACTS.
I am not sure if many places...especially of the fast food sorts...would fit the bill for a 5-star rating. Still, Podna's Catfish and Po'Boys was an easy choice for a top rating. Having spent 6 months living in San Antonio, this place became one of my favorites. Although it is a place that could be easily overlooked on Austin Highway, and generally would not be fit for a 30 minute lunch if you work downtown, I found as many opportunities to go back as my co-workers would allow. The food in general is really good, but of course, you should shoot for the po'boys. My favorite was the 12" 1/2 fried oyster, 1/2 fried shrimp. Whatever you choose, it is overflowing with meat, the roll that it comes in is fresh and the sauce that you can add on your own is great. The fries weren't necessarily my favorite, but they are still really tasty and not overly fried or salty. This is a pretty basic restaurant, and watch out for the high noon lunches, as it might be difficult to find a table. But the staff is really nice and the owner, who willingly shares about his visit to New Orleans which led to the start of his business, is definitely a friendly character. Although I was never that rushed, they even have a drive-through, and I have heard that you can call in orders and have them cater. Now, I am off to new eating adventures in Dallas, TX as a next step in my own professional pursuits, but Podna's will definitely be on my list when I take my next trip to SA.
From the moment we walked in the door of Lorenzo’s the atmosphere, friendliness and outstanding service was beyond our expectations. As a member of the Shania Twain Band I have had the great opportunity to enjoy Italian cuisine all over the world. As well, having been raised in New York in the “old Italian neighborhood” my expectations for Italian restaurant food is significantly higher than most people. I particularly enjoyed the friendliness of the staff, the quiet and classic old time style of Lorenzo’s reminded me of many of my childhood meals in New York’s “Little Italy” neighborhood. I myself had Lasagna that was authentic and very tasty (I especially enjoyed the extra sauce they provided on the side). The serving size was remarkable, the garlic bread was abundant and served piping hot. I highly recommend the house Italian salad dressing--it was nearly as good as good as I remember my grandmother’s being--just the right touch of olive oil and spices to enhance the salad that contained not only tomatoes, but also olives, green peppers and other veggies. My dinner guest found the Manicotti equally as delicious as I found my Lasagna. There was no wait time, service was five-star and the selections and/or choices the menu provided were the best I’ve seen in any Italian restaurant in Texas. If you are looking for excellent food, great service, and very reasonable prices Lorenzo’s is your best bet. Giovanni G. Bonanno Malibu Beach, California
I think Paul's Pizza Roma is the best Pizza in San Antonio. They have 2 locations. The one listed here and another on the NW side off of Fredricksburg and Callaghan. I have tried just about everything off of the menu and it's just great that they use fresh ingredients. I don't like to eat pizza cold but Paul's Pizza is one pizza you don't mind eating cold. They also have a great flatbread sandwich called the Gyro-YUMMY!. Dolmos is a cool greek snack and you have to try to Garlic Knots! Let them know Miko recommended you. Yes I order thtat much ^_^ This is one local pizzeria that you will love ordering and getting delivery from. You can order as late as 11:30 pm from both locations for delivery. They also have a chinese restaurant now called Sun Suns that allow you to order as late as 9pm or 9:30pm. The chinese food is great and the servings are large enough for at least 2 people and possibly more. Vegetarians will be happy with the large variety of healthy choices. There is Pauls orginal pizza, the gyro, pasta, salads, even soup of a day. The deserts are great too. Try to eat the Pecan Ice Cream Ball in one sitting. I doubt you can, lol.
The only down fall of this place is the front counter order taker (girl w/glasses - dirty blonde). She is rude and doesn't take the time to listen to the customer. Yet again she got my order wrong and while waiting for my food I notice two other customers with the same problem. This girl is too busy talking w/her co-workers instead of listening to the customer. Congrats on winning the Blue Plate award and having 3 perfect scores in a row, but what good is all that when your front line person (girl w/glasses) can't get the order right. Yeah, the food takes awhile to get to the table, but it's not frozen and heated up it is fresh, hot and YUMO...The wait staff is the greatest, friendly, kind and really down to earth folks. Sam (young small girl), Lisa (older freindly lady) and Art (somehow realated to Big Lou) are the best and kindest wait staff I have ever encounted. They along w/the great food keeps me coming back and I tell everyone who will listen how great it is there. If only the front counter person could be placed in the kitchen away from customers this place would be more than exceptional.
We where getting tired all those same-old Pizza food chains & find it a little hard to get food that actually taste good & good service that should go along with it. So I took my family to this new place "MAAR's Pizza & More" that just opened. Not knowing what to expect, we ordered Pizza, Wings, Fried Pickles & Drinks. This was *THE BEST* fresh, home made food my family & I have had in a VERY LONG TIME. Though it was very busy, (-:a+good+sign:-) the whole staff @ MAAR's Pizza & More where very amiable & went out of there way to accommodate everyone. I also love the fact that the owners where on the floor helping. To me that shows they really do care about there staff & guest. When it was time for us to go, our waitress brought the bill. We where astound to see for all that good food (& much left to take home) our bill was actually much less than expected. I live across town but I need to say that "MAAR's Pizza & More is by far the best & well worth the drive. I'll be going back next weekend for more...
We ordered a pizza from this Pizzeria and they were more than willing to deliver it... The pricing was good and reasonable for what we received. For the first time to ever order from them was a great experience. I do not know how it is actually there because we have never been in there to order or pick up a pizza. The pizza itself was also very good.. Freshly made and delivered hot. The dough on the pizza was excellent and more like a bread. The only downside we had with this place was they charge a $1.00 to run a cc. That was really the only problem we had with them but for a small business like this it was great. The delivery driver that brought the pizza was very friendly to us all... Also unlike most pizza businesses that are sort of stingy on the peppers and cheeses, they were not. They gave us plenty. Even others coming in to our office were wanting to know where we got pizza from because it smelled so good and said that it looked good.
I have no clue where to begin! From the moment my family and I walked in t the moment my family and I left we were greeted with nothing but absolutely amazing service. The owners took it upon themselves to greet each table individually and put forth effort to build bonds with the customers. For as long as MAARS stays open I will be a frequent attendant! The food was not terribly greasy. The employees were neat and got the food out in a timly manner. I was never greeted with a tone of rudeness. The main focus of this restaurant is FAMILY and I believe this is the first restaurant that has been able to meet the expectations of a family oriented restaurant. Compared to the ownership before the restaurant is much cleaner and I am not concerned about contaminents in the food or environment. Overall amazing experience and that is just an understatement. Words cannot justify what my family and I felt! Amazing restaurant
I really liked what I ordered there. It was a crape with chicken and a creamy orangy sauce(which was tamato mixed with alfredo) and I believe there was spinach in the crape as well. Of course I have eaten enough Italian to know that I like that particular kind of dish. If you don't eat a lot of pastas and sauces I would suggest asking the waiter/waitress what they recommend from what you usually like/dislike. My husband on the other hand didnt know what he was getting and ended up getting something without a whole lot of flavor. I believe it was chicken and artichoke hearts in linguine, with olive oil as the sauce (I imagine with other herbs as well) but it was too bland for him and I had to give him some of my sauce. Definately a nice, and relatively in-exspensive place to eat. Its prices compete well with other finer places around. maybe 10-15$ a plate. I give it a big thumbs up!
I have consistently found that the best restaurants are those that are small and owned and managed by families. Piccolo's is just such a place. The atmosphere is like those places in New Orleans, New York, or San Francisco, where the whole thing is the food - making sure it is well-prepared, fresh, served quickly, and at a reasonable price. The sauces are always freshly prepared, and the fish is not "fishy." The wait staff is efficient, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. The decor is what you'd expect in a family-owned restaurant - thematic, not fancy, but with a pleasing personality. About the food. Every dish I've had there is delightful in its blend and balance of sauces, cheeses, and spices. I'm planning on having everything in the menu eventually. I would like to have a bigger choice of desserts, but that's a minor issue.
