UPDATE - 14 Sept 2014: Lee came out to my house to help me get rid of rats and to make sure they don't come back. When I posted before I had not had the chance to see if the rats would move back in during the winter months like they had initially. Well, it's been a year and I'm happy to report we are still rat free! The work that Lee did to my house has been great to keep out this pest. All in all I have been happy with the successful work that was done! The warranty was set up as promised and I think it was worth working with him! -------------------- Original 09/21/2013 - 4 stars: I called Critter Evictor to remove rats in my attic earlier this year in April. Overall I am so far pleased with Critter Evictor and their work. I was skeptical initially but after some good communication early on some of those fears lessened. The work that was done seems to have been done well and has so far been successful (see further note about why I say I am slightly hesitant to say it has been completely successful). If they had a 4.5 star rating I'd give it that! I was having issues with rats in my attic through the winter, but by the time I called Critter Evictor in early April, I think the rats might not have been using our attic any more. During the warmer months rats may tend to not come in anymore, so I feel like I want to wait a full year to know for sure the work Critter Evictor did was completely successful. With that said, this is where it is nice to have an automatic, free 15 month warranty upon completion of their work. If I have any issues again this winter I can just call them up and have them fix any further issues - but hopefully they did a good enough job to have eliminated the problem. There were some issues we had with timing and getting the Critter Evictor to come out during their desired schedule. They like to do a purging in the attic by spraying pheromones and setting traps before sealing all the entrances for rodents to get in. This way hopefully no rodents are left inside when the gaps are sealed. After purging they seal the holes and then leave traps up for 10 days or so to ensure nothing is still inside or not getting inside. So the total process takes about 10-14 days. For my situation, it took about another week to complete due to delays on their end. I had made appointments but then Critter Evictor had to reschedule. I had to have them come out to spray twice because they did not come quickly enough after spraying the first time. This was frustrating because it required me to take extra time away from work to deal with additional appointments. This 'reliability', if you will, is the only real issue I experienced with the whole process. The issue only resulted in inconveniences, as the work was still done and so far it has been successful. Critter Evictor was apologetic and understanding. Ultimately, I was told an extra month was added to my warranty to compensate for the delay in competing the work. Despite the lengthy process I experienced, I got the feeling this might be a somewhat isolated issue and not a frequent occurrence. All in all, I would say using Critter Evictor was a good experience, pending the results of this coming winter to further confirm the work was well done.
I was having a major pest control problem and after I was recommended this company I decided to give it a try. I made a service call and spoke with the office manager Amanda Romero and she was very friendly and very professional. They are willing to come at any time of the day even weekends. We set up a date and time and she gave me specific instructions so when they come they can get right to work quick and easy. I thought that was great that she gave me instructions because most businesses don't tell you anything until they get there and then you waste a good 30 minutes. When the guy got to my place he was very friendly and did his work. It didn't take long but from what I saw he was very professional and knew what he was doing. After he was done with his work he asked if there were any other problems that he can take care of for me. I was surprised because other businesses just go in do their work and leave. Before he left he says if I was having any problems please to contact them immediately so they can take care of the problem. A few days later the manager called to make sure if everything was going okay. Great customer service they truly care about their customers. I will for sure use them again. My pest problem has not continued since they have done their service. I strongly recommend this company to everyone. They truly go over and beyond to help, serve and satisfy their customers. Well done!
Sebastian L. was AWESOME he was ahead of schedule which worked out perfect for me. He came and did a great job very friendly and social. Even though he was ahead of schedule, he took his time, and didn't rush to get to his next stop. We talked shop and he listened as i rambled on about the remodel i did in my kitchen, he gave me some ideas to add on to it. He could have been like Im here to do my job and thats is, but he took the time to do his job and spare a few minutes talking which is a good thing in this fast paced world. He offered to be my regular tech which I will gladly accept. The last guy who came was good too, and he mentioned to write a review for him if i thought he did good. I didn't get around to it so i apologize to him for that. Sebastion didn't bring it up to get me to do it when he was done he was ready to leave. I asked him about it so i could give him a good review. So hope his boss see's this and see's how the little things can make a world of difference. Great job Sebastian L.
The place is more of a sports bar. It's very out of date as to ambiance and decor. What makes the Calico a great place to cop a cold one are the patrons. People have been going there for over 20 years. It's recently going thru ownership changes and word is that the place will be updated in due time. I'll go back to this club for sure. The people are very friendly especially the day shift bar tender who told me to call him "D". He is very charismatic and we talked for hours about many subjects. I'm sure anyone would like this guy! I was also told they are doing a free barbecue dinner for all patrons on Memorial Day. I plan on going. Hope to see you there! They said all domestics were $1.50 every Monday and Wells are $2.00 on Tuesdays. I only wish they would consider making the restrooms wheelchair accessible, I'd love to bring some of my friends with me but it looked like they'd have a hard time with that one aspect.
Im unsure about the other reviews, however i was approached by Ryan from ecoshield and i was impressed by the knowledge and courteous manner in which he was intentive with my pest issues. I promptly contacted him about starting service with them. Today he and the Specalist came promptly at the time discussed and they got to work. I must say i was v ery impressed at the courtsey and efficient way they provided service. My specalist were Phil and Tyler. Service was thorough . Specalist were attentive to my needs. Specalist even scoped out a scorpin lingering on my patio sliced him up in order to keep from harming me and my pets. Thanks Guys! Job well done! By the way payment for the bi monthly service was counsuled on pthe day of inqury and the day of service.
We've had intentions to resume pest control service at our home since we purchased it and we initially were going to go with the company that the previous homeowners used. However, they charged EXTRA for flea treatment?! Alterra literrally fell from the sky the day after my husband and I discussed pest control service and we signed up a few days ago because they did not charge extra for flea treatment. Glenn came over last night for our first treatment and he was extremely helpful. He explained the service and was able to answer any questions we had. Even if we were his last home for the day, he was not rushed and we feel he did his job thoroughly! We hope Glenn is our regular service professional!
This is a great company! I have used them many times over the years and every tech that has come to my house has been clean, HONEST, considerate, polite and hard working! I have referred this company to many of my friends and several have used them and all have been happy and even thanked me for referring the company to them. I can't tell you enough how happy I have been with Bob Jenkins Pest & Lawn! They have always taken care of my problems and were very concerned with my happiness. They call me afterwards to make sure everything went well and that I was happy. I will only use them and just can't say enough good things about them!!!
We've had an awesome experience with Critter Evictor with our 85+ year old house in Alamo Heights. We had raccoons and other animals in our ceiling and under house. Lee sprayed pheromones to drive animals out then patched holes/access points around the house including the roof. We had previously tried to get several different roofing companies out to look at the roof with no luck. Lee returned all calls quickly, came to house when promised and on time. Always pleasant and professional. Critter Evictor provides a warranty and they have continued to be responsive and professional throughout the warranty period. Highly recommend them!!!
Dorian came to my house this AM and sprayed my yard! Such a warm and personable gentleman! I have always had great services from your company since we started! I told Dorian we were putting our house up for sale because we want to downsize our property size! We have been here 23 yrs. and have enjoyed every moment! We would like to keep your service once we find where we will establish a home. I will also pass on your name to new residence that will love our home as much as we did! Thank you Dorian you are great! There are some new residence that have moved in to the neighborhood, so go get them! Good luck!
Great work done by Felipe Linares! Very thorough, polite and courteous guy to work with. You can tell he's dedicated to his job and wanting to give his company the best reputation possible. He was very detailed in explaining what would be done today, what will happen in the next 30 days and what will be happening in the distant future. He didn't rush at all. He took his time and made sure he got everywhere he could. I will definitely be using this service for a long time, referring to anyone I know with a home, and asking for him to do the work personally every time! Thanks for the hard work!
Pest control is the process of managing, and often exterminating, insects, rodents and other common vermin from your home or place of business. You can hire an exterminator to kill or keep pests such as cockroaches, termites and rats at bay.
Many companies either have technicians on staff or hire commercial pest control operators to keep their facilities clean and compliant with health codes and other regulations. While your house doesn't need to meet the same stringent codes a restaurant might, you likely want to keep your home safe from bugs and mice. Besides being general pests, termites, carpenter ants and other vermin can destroy the structural integrity of your home, making it unsafe for anyone to live in.
It's important to ask the right questions before hiring a pest control company. You need to know whether the exterminators do quality work and if they know the proper ways to kill pests without exposing you and your family to potentially harmful chemicals. Here's a list of questions you must ask any extermination company to ensure you hire the best people for the job:
Are You Licensed?
Pest control experts must be licensed in your state to do their work since they handle powerful pesticides and insecticides. Make sure the company you go with is registered with your state. You can verify a business's license through your state's pesticide regulatory office.
Are You Bonded or Insured?
Just like any other professional working in or on your property, you want to ensure they're bonded. Being bonded or insured means any damage they do to your home will be covered by an insurance company instead of you.
How Long Have You Been in Business?
You want a veteran extermination company that knows how to handle all types of pests. A company that's been in business for a number of years will have more experience trapping or killing a wide range of bugs and rodents than a relative newcomer.
Do You Guarantee Your Work?
You wouldn't want to call a pest control technician out to spray your home and have roaches or rats return in just a few days, would you? Get a guarantee for the work that is done. Additionally, be wary of exterminators who ask you to sign a long contract with them. If you must sign an extended pledge, ensure you can cancel it at any time.
May I Have a List of References?
Ask your friends, family and neighbors if they can recommend any reputable pest control operators. If they can't, ask the company itself for a list of references you can contact.
Will I Need to Leave My House or Place of Business?
An exterminator might require you to leave your house or workplace depending on the seriousness of the infestation or the chemicals used to annihilate the bugs or rodents. Ask him or her what chemicals they plan to use, when it's safe to return to your home or commercial building and if the treatment spray could harm children or pets.
Remember that you can better avoid scammers by ensuring all the technicians with the pest control company you hire are licensed as well as bonded.
You may need to seek the help of an exterminator depending on the type of pest and the amount of infestation your residence or commercial building has. While you can use glue traps and insecticide to kill off a few cockroaches, these measures are no match for large clusters and colonies of insects or rodents. Here's a list of creatures you should contact a pest control technician about:
Contact a professional exterminator as soon as possible if you suspect your property has termites. Termites can cause costly damage to your home or building in a small amount of time.
Besides eating into wood and causing destruction to your foundation, termite nests are also hard to locate. With that said, look for cracked paint along the wooden surfaces of your home and tap beams and pillars every once in a while. If you hear a hollow sound, you might have a termite infestation.
Other culprits that can damage your house include carpenter ants. Like termites, they are bugs that burrow into buildings, damaging insulation, floors and walls. Unlike ants that build underground colonies and hills in your yard, carpenter ants are usually found living in trees. However, many times this species of ant will make a home for itself under your roof. It's smart to enlist the help of an experienced pest control company when handling carpenter ants since they're known to cause as much damage to buildings as termites.
If you have bed bugs but want to keep getting a good night's sleep, you should contact an exterminator, as this pest spreads easily. Unfortunately, knowing whether or not you have bed bugs is difficult until you feel an itch on your skin or find their bites on you.
Controlling the spread of this pest is notoriously challenging, which is why you should employ a professional. Bed bugs feed on blood and make their homes on mattresses and other pieces of furniture. So wash your laundry frequently, steam clean your mattress and seek out the guidance of an exterminator in order to go back to sleeping in comfort.
The common ant, unlike its carpenter ant cousin, won't destroy parts of your home. However, a trail of bugs is something no one wants in their house. Ants usually enter a building looking for a sugary food source and will leave a scented trail for the rest of the colony to follow. This is why it's better to eradicate the whole group instead of just the handful you might find in your home.
Roaches are a nuisance no one likes to deal with. However, many homes, condos and apartments have them. Unsanitary conditions, such as leaving food out, dirty dishes in the sink or failing to take out the garbage, attract cockroaches into your living space.
Regular bees, bumble bees, hornets, wasps and yellow jackets can take over your backyard, making sitting on your deck a challenge. Some insects such as bees can be good for your garden since they help pollinate plants. However, you don't want your property swarming with stinging insects. There are preventative measures you can take, as well as special formulated insecticides, but it's best to contact a professional. Exterminators and beekeepers have the protective gear required to handle stinging bugs and can remove the insects without anyone getting hurt.
Rats and Mice
Rats are not just an irritant; they also pose risks to your health and to your home. While rats, mice and other rodents can burrow holes in your house, rats also carry disease in the form of fleas in their fur. Bait, poison and mechanical spring-loaded traps can eliminate them.
While you want some animals off your lawn and out of your house, you don't want to exterminate all pests, especially wildlife like deer, raccoons and squirrels. They may eat your plants but you will want to ward them off or either find a safe and humane way to trap and release them.
There are some great do-it-yourself tricks you can use, such as connecting small bungee cords to your trash can lids to keep raccoons from going through your garbage. However, if you find an opossum, snake or other varmint in your house, you should call a professional pest control company to reduce your chance of getting bit or otherwise injured. An expert knows how to humanely trap mammals or reptiles and keep them out of your home.
There's a whole range of pest control methods and customized solutions for killing insects, mammals and reptiles, as well as preventing them from returning. Unfortunately, there isn't one approach that will keep all pests at bay. Here are a few ways you can eliminate or discourage critters from making camp in your residence or yard:
Inspection and Exclusion
Before you or an exterminator sets out bait, traps or poison, it's best to thoroughly check your home and pinpoint where the pests are coming from. Look for cracks or openings in your residence. After that, the professional will locate where the bugs or other animals are living and set traps or spray insecticide accordingly.
He or she will also suggest ways to keep future pests out, either by caulking up holes or by explaining what you might be doing that's attracting the vermin.
A trap can run the gamut from sticky-padded glue traps that use an adhesive material to capture bugs and mice to milk jugs filled with sugar water that capture flies and wasps.
If you hire professionals to kill or capture pests, ask them which traps will work best for your needs. They could suggest a particular glue trap if you have a frequent cockroach problem or a type of bait that's more effective in leading rodents to the trap.
Baits range from laying out food to entice pests into a trap to poisonous substances the bugs or rodents eat and take back to their colony or hive. The latter type of bait takes time to work but can be much more effective than spraying insects with a pesticide. It attacks and can eliminate all the other pests in the community.
Many commercial pest control operators will spray your house or yard with strong insecticides around nooks, crannies and other parts of your home where bugs are usually found. You can also do this yourself with store-bought sprays or purchase commercial grade pesticide to dilute with water.
When pest control technicians visit your home or place of business, expect them to first identify what insect or other animal it is that's causing trouble. After identification, they will inspect your building to see where the pests are coming from and locate their hive or nest.
Then the exterminator will spray or set out traps and bait according to which pest you have. The price for exterminators can range broadly since they can charge for a monthly inspection and treatment. The final bill also comes down to the square footage of your property.
Keeping critters out of your house is easier said than done, but there are a number of preventative steps you can take, including:
You might need to change your pest prevention approach with the seasons, however. If you find insects and other animals trying to get in through cracks or openings, use a caulk gun to fill the gaps. You'll also want to either use traditional bug spray or a citronella candle to keep bugs such as mosquitos away from you during the summer months.
Many pest control experts now offer environmentally friendly treatment for your home and yard with insecticides that aren't as harsh for the ecosystem. Check with exterminators around your area to see if they provide these kinds of services.
Also, keep bugs at bay and your plants free from harmful chemicals by spraying cedar oil or soapy water on your prized flowers. Ask your pest control company about no-kill traps you can use if you want to get mice, rabbits, opossums or other furry creatures out of your house without harming them.
