I have visited this location for dinner several times but this last visit was the first time I have ever ordered dessert. I ordered their dessert minis which are strawberry cheesecake, key lime pie, and chocolate trifle. I ordered one of each and thought they were very cute when the waitress brought them out. They were all lined up in shot glass like dishes with the spoon sticking straight out. For being so small they defiantly got your attention. The Cheesecake was probably my favorite, it was nice and creamy and had a wonderful flavor in the graham cracker crust and paired with the strawberries was very delicious. It was also a nice alternative to the traditional presentation of cheesecake. The key lime pie i didn't like so much though. The flavor of the key lime was pretty spot on it was just the crust that made the dessert not what it could have been. The crust tasted as if it could have been frozen and then thawed out or like a stale vanilla wafer cookie crumble. The chocolate trifle would have been my favorite since it was for sure made for a chocolate lover like myself but the mousse that was layered in between the cake was a one-note item. It had great texture but that was about all you got from it, it needed some added flavor like a liquor or a coffee or hazelnut or something to give it something special. The chocolate cake that was in it though was very good and my favorite part of that dessert it was light and moist and had just the right amount of chocolate flavor. One thing about the cheesecake and key lime that i didn't like was the whipped cream. It tasted like it came from a can and a bit oily it was not anything like a fresh whipped cream so that is one thing i would definitely change. I had a overall great experience and minus the few set backs in the desserts i did really enjoy them. I would just suggest a few alterations and then i would most defiantly order them again.
I have lived in San Antonio all my life(41yrs) and close by to Oscar's. The food is Good but the service is terrible. Don't ever call in your order for pick up. I can tell you from experience that they will get it wrong 8 times out of 10. I usually just get the order fixed and don't make any complaints but this time the manager had a very bad attitude and had some very bad comments to make before i walked off. She even lied about my wife calling in to cancel the order. When I got my wife on the phone to clear the problem up I went inside to speak with her and lo and behold the owner and his wife were there. I kept very calm and gave the manager the phone to speak with my wife. She had attitude and bad manners. They hung up she handed me my phone and said your order will be out with a sassy attitude right in front of the owner and his wife. WOW!!! I thought.... is this her mom and dad. Don't know and don't care. She has no right to act the way she did. As I was walking out she said all the customers cause a lot of drama around here. I walked back in and said "this would not have happened at Rocky's". I didn't know what else to say, I just know I was upset at this point. On top of that when I went outside to wait for them to fix my order she kept complaining about me to the kitchen staff. I got even more upset and grabbed my food from the first order they got wrong and took it in and requested my money back. The owner then finally stepted in and wanted to know what was going on. I calmly explained to him the situation and he said it was unacceptable and said my order was ready. By that point or should I say at that point... WHY? The damage is done. They need new Management. Bottom Line......
I haven't been in San Antonio in over 6 years and a buddy of mine agreed to try this place for dinner. When you walk in, the entire area looks like it has not been vacuumed in at least two days. The woman who seated us was rude and quickly told us that our waitress will be with us and walked off to talk to someone near the bar. We ordered the steak and wild mushroom flat bread, and boy was it flat. It fell apart when you tried to pick it up and the quality of the food was mediocre at best. Halfway through my coca-cola, I had the distinct pleasure of having something that was not ice go into my mouth. It looked like part of a nail, but I couldn't be sure. I got passed it and got another drink. This particular restaurant has an outside section to be able to view the RiverWalk and we witnessed over 25 pigeons, ranging from different sizes of height and weight having their way around two tables that had leftover food and plates from previous patrons who had left. It got so bad that another patron tried to get the pigeons to fly away. After 10 minutes of this and myself and others filing this, one of the waiters finally came out and tried to remove the plates. I ordered the New York 12 ounce steak and it was cooked very well. I didn't have any complaints regarding the steak, broccoli and potato. This is honestly not that bad of a place to eat, I will more than likely never eat there again just because of the issues I had when I went.
Not the best...but I have had worse. They claim to have the "Best Tacos in America", I beg to differ...or maybe I ordered the wrong ones. I had lunch there today. The service was excellent but the food is not impressive. I ordered the Soft Chicken Taco lunch plate. The plate looked impressive with 3 chicken filled corn tortillas smothered in a ranchero type sauce. The corn tortillas used were pretty tasty as was the chicken. But the ranchero sauce, the beans and the rice were all VERY bland. I had to add a ton of salt and pepper to get some sort of flavor. I also added salsa that was served with the chips. The salsa was tasty but not spicy at all. Additionally, I believe the prices are a little to high. I paid $3.49 for a side of guacamole...it was a small spoonful of smashed avacodo served over very mild pico de gallo. I added salt and pepper to this as well. The only thing I REALLY enjoyed was the flour tortilla served with my plate. They were delicious. Also, I tried a bite of the sopapilla and it was good too. I wouldn't mind going back to try the nachos I saw come out of the window or even a breakfast taco (in hopes that maybe they would be the meaning behind their "Best Taco in America" claim).
I recently purchased an engagement ring for my now fiancée from Moretti's, and we couldn't be happier. Ruben took great care to listen to what I was looking for and show me diamonds that aligned with my requests perfectly. He brought in several stones they didn't have in stock very quickly. When I described the type of band I was looking for, he showed me a picture that was spot on, exactly what I wanted. Other local shops went straight for the book of bands and we started flipping through options, which was overwhelming. Overall he took a very consultative approach to the entire experience, which I really appreciated. We will absolutely be back to look for our wedding bands.Any sufficiently expensive piece of jewelry should be specifically insured. This can be done quite easily through an existing home owners or renters insurance policy, and the cost is quite low when you consider the thought of replacing the ring yourself. This is true of any jewelry you'd buy from anywhere.I'd highly recommend Moretti's to anyone who is in the market for a piece of wonderful jewelry. I looked all across San Antonio and am very pleased with the ring Ruben helped put together for us. Thank you Ruben!
Laura Charlton has such a command of color, her jewelry is so dramatic, so daring! When I think of the time she must spend laboring over precise details in each of her designs; I'm in total amazement. I first met Laura at the annual Ethan Allen Arts Fair. I entered a beautiful room decorated in fabulousl fabrics and furnishings, and there was this deligtful, regal woman all dressed in aquas, turquoise, and rich shades of pink. But it was the jewelry she was wearing that drew me to her exhibit; it was so exotic. As I looked around her display tables, I couldn't decide what pieces to purchase, her inventory was vast. I wanted to talk to her but the people at the show were buzzing all around her. I went serching for the friends I arrived with, found them and quickly dragged them over to Laura's part of the show. They of course fell in love with her work and we all ended up buying numerous pieces. Finally, towards the end of the show, we were able to chat with her and made an instant connection. If you don't have a Charlton original piece of work, you are missing out. Give her a call, you will adore her, she is such fun, and her work is like none you've seen before!
Seriously,I don't write reviews very often. I signed up today just to write this review. This is my favorite restaurant. I'm a person who eats out about 90% of the time along with my wife. I frequent this place at least five time a week between breakfast and lunch. They have the best breakfast tacos in town that I know of & are always reasonably priced just like their $5.99 lunch specials which includes Tea or COKE products! And is available till 5 PM! Nowhere I know of has specials available that late! I am a big a boy and I leave full all time!While the Mexican food here is my favorite. The overall best thing about this restaurant is the service from the people who work here. They're always very nice and inviting. When they use to be open till 2:30 p.m. At times I'd come in there 10 minutes before close and they would always still be very genuinely nice and inviting. Which remind also reminds me, they're always fast, SUPER FAST! And these is the reason I love this place! New Product Line is a Big Hit! Using Taco Cabana's (TC's) own website for “feedback”, I previously scorched TC for the extreme lack of customer service at this location. Management has since corrected the issues with new personnel who are highly courteous and fast. More importantly, since my feedback TC has done something that is extremely hard to do successfully - they revamped TC's product line to the point that my family considers TC to be the fast-food restaurant of first choice. The new products include (1) high quality "chicken flautas" with all the condiments, (2) beef "street tacos" and the real surprise that we eat for breakfast or dinner, (3) chopped "brisket tacos" on corn tortilla (corn is our particular preference). It is rare that the consecutive unrolling of new products are home runs! Great job TC management!! Now, if you can only get your beef fajitas back to backyard BBQ quality that TC was originally known for, TC would own the fast-food market!
The food is good but the staff is so sour. I hate going in there and after today don't think I ever will again. I was the third customer. The Place was empty. I put in my order to go. I asked for a receipt. Forgot to take it. A minute later guy says who forgot their receipt? He went to patron 2 she said no I lifted my hand to claim it. Minutes later it's just me and my order is ready. He says to me, Did you pay? And I said yes and took out my receipt. He barely look at it and said in a defensive way, Just checking Just checking like he thinks I'm lying. I felt like throwing the food in the road I was so mad. How does he not remember in a room of three people that I handed him 20 dollars! I could understand in a room full of like 10 or more people but give me a break. The food is good but not THAT good. This was the last straw. I'll take my money where it's wanted. What really irks me is that I've always been nice, I didn't deserve his suspicion or attitude.
I went to the Taco Garage for my first time and it will be my last time. The service was a little slow but it was busy so I didn't mind. I ordered the crispy beef taco plate. The tacos were a little bland and the salsa they serve with their chips didn't have any kick to it, so I asked the server if I could have some pico de gallo fot the tacos. She said sure & came back several minutes later with what they called pico. It didn't bear any resemblance to correct pico de gallo, but I used it on my tacos and it at least gave a little flavor.When they brought my bill I noticed a charge of .49 cents for pico de gallo. What Mexican restaurant charges extra for a tiny amount of really bad pico? I asked about the charge & they said it was "because they had to ask their kitchen to make it". I didn't argue or complain, but I can promise I'll never go back and I WILL let everyone I know about my crappy experience.
