Incarnate Word High School

Best 4 years of my life!

I cannot say enough about the education I recieved from IWHS! The modular schedule really forces you to learn time management skills! Academically I felt really challenged in a positive way and if ever I needed help or clarification on an assignment the teachers always helped and made sure I understood. The school offers Pre- AP and AP classes in the event that the regular curriculum is not challenging enough. IWHS also partners with UIW and offers some college level courses for students to take and begin earning college credits! IWHS also has tow really neat programs to make the students really feel like they belong to a family. The first is the Big Sis/ Lil Sis program where a seasoned Senior student and brand new Freshman student are paired up for the year. My Big sis was amazing! She passed on a lot a insider intel to me and made sure I was doing alright in my transition to the intense world of high school. I loved being a Big sis my senior year and getting little knick knacks for my Lil Sis and helping her find her niche at IWHS. My Lil Sis and I are still really good friends! The second program I found helpful is the Fish Tips program! In this program teams of Sophomore students help guide the freshmen through their first semester of high school. I loved their classes! They answered our questions and made us feel like we could come to them at any time if we didn't know something. I loved the All- Girl environment of IWHS! The focus was truly on studying and extra-curriculars! I think the fact that IWHS student wear uniforms and hardly wear make-up really help to keep the students from becoming obsessed with their outward apparence and the superficial aspects of being a teenager. I loved coming to school everyday at IWHS! Oh and if your daughter likes to sing she MUST look into joining the IWHS Choir. Mary Ann De La Garza directs the choir along with teaching Algebra. She is by far the best teacher I have ever had and being a part of the Choir and Madrigals was the BEST part of high school. Dela (as we call her) helps you be your best in both acadmeics and as a person. Incarnate Word is the best education by far for young women. They truly prepare you for college and ensure that the time spent there will be rewarding and memorable!

Happy Hollow Preschool & Daycare
Meredith K. rated

I highly recommend Happy Hollow. My two boys have been there for two years now and have absolutely enjoyed their time. The teacher (owner) and the teaching assistants are fantastic. In fact, the teaching assistants are college students that are majoring in education! My children have have had the opportunity to be part of the Pre Kinder Program, after school, and summer camp. First, allow me to tell you about the pre-school/pre k, my youngest has attended since he was 3 (he is now 5). Celebrations are a big deal at Happy Hollow, huge parties for holidays and they really make the kids feel special on their birthdays as well. My youngest was born premature and he is a little behind the curve learning wise. The last two years he has gone to Happy Hollow, he has learned so much! He has excelled and is truly ready to rock kindergarten next year. He held his head so high like the other kiddos did walking across the stage it was beautiful at their Pre K and Preschool graduation ceremony. They had all worked so hard this year to accomplish their goals. Next, after school. The children are picked up from their local schools. They are ASSISTED with their homework and are able to play afterwards. It's a great feeling knowing that I don't need to worry about being bogged down with homework once home, I can check out what the assignment was and go about the usual nightly routine of laundry, dinner, clean. Ect. Last, Happy Hollow's summer camp. The children go on a lot of fantastic field trips, and have an opportunity to get swimming lessons as well. Unfortunately, due to my new summer work schedule- my boys will not be able to attend the camp and they are very upset about it. If you're looking for a special place that can give you piece of mind that your child is learning and being loved on, Happy Hollow is the place for your family. I really can't say enough how blessed we were to have found such a caring and kind school for them to grow and learn. Truly just the sweetest, and most knowledgable people I have had the pleasure of getting to know. Happy Hollow is WONDERFUL!

Disappointed My husband and I...

Disappointed My husband and I have been displeased with the quality of our son's care at this school. Once we found another child wearing his clothes, another time his sippy cup went untouched all day. Regularly we found him with food all over his face and clothes, and his diaper full. In the 4 months attended, there was a lot of turnover with both teachers and teaching assistants (2 teachers and 3 assistants), and no communication about the changes from the school. In fact, it was 2 weeks before we knew our son's teacher no longer worked there (there is an aide present when we drop him off and pick him up). We ended up having to call the school to ask about his teacher because when we went to pick him up, the aide was also new. The school did a poor job of communicating with us regarding what our son did during the day (ie how he slept, what he worked on, how he ate). The information we were able to get separately from his teacher and teacher's aide were rarely consistent. When asked if we could get occasional reports on our son's activities during the week, we were told that wasn't "Montessori". When my son stopped attending, we were informed by the head of the school that his teacher was unable to work with him because he only attended 2 full days a week (he is 2 years old and my husband stays at home with him). I wish we had known that from the beginning; we would have chosen a school that was willing to teach our child on a 2 days/week schedule. We are seeking educational enrichment for our son to break up the time he stays at home, not a drop-off daycare. All in all, disappointed with our experience; it was not at all what was presented to us when we met the teachers and toured the school.

Pinnacle Montessori
Eric P. rated

We have been here almost 3 years. Our son has grown from shy to confident. He has learned how to read and is now beginning to write and he is only 4. Additionally, when we have parent lesson nights, he loves to show us new things he has learned in class, whether it is a new song, the letters of the alphabet, his numbers, or that he is now learning Spanish. He constantly refers to his classmates as "friends" and looks forward to seeing them every day. All of his teachers are involved with growing the children and it feels more like a family than just a regular school. Ms. Rosemary, his current teacher, has been teaching for more than 30 years, is a published author, and her love for teaching and children is evident. Ms. Inez, his first teacher, has been teaching for more than 10 years, is always laughing and smiling and the children respond to her. The Director, Ms. Lage, has over 35 years of experience and is wonderful. She has a daily presence at the school and is committed to ensuring that Pinnacle exceeds parents expectations. I would recommend this school to anyone who wants to see their child grow in a warm, fun, and welcoming environment. A very satisfied parent (Eric)

TMI - The Episcopal School of Texas

Parent of 2 alumni

TMI-The Episcopal School of Texas provided an excellent academic community for my two sons. They both graduated with scholarship offers and one played baseball at a Texas college. Aside from the excellent academics and preparation they received for college, they went to school with students who are all focused on applying to and being accepted to colleges. The college counseling experience was exceptional! The sports, clubs and organizations provided ample opportunity for involvement with variety that was unusual for a small school. Daily chapel and peer chapel talks provided additional value for the experience. One son was a cadet in the JROTC and one was not and both loved their TMI experience. Highly recommended!

Providence is Powerful

Providence is providing an excellent program that empowers girls to achieve their goals in college and beyond. Providence is a College Preparatory School for Girls Grades 6-12. The class of 2009 has a 100% college acceptance rate and has earned over $5 million dollars in scholarships. My two daughters will graduate from Providence in 2011 and they could not be better prepared by any team of educators. Providence students experience academic excellence and leadership opportunities. At Providence they have are part of a family that cares about one another. This is the best investment in their futures we will ever make.

happy hollow --- better than the best

I am a teacher and my family has had the pleasure of being a part of this school for over ten years with three children. I wouldn't want my child anywhere else. The curriculum is better than I've found anywhere. My children started school at the top of their class and were provided excellent tutoring as an elementary student. The summer program is wonderful, so full of fun and great experiences. The owner has a Christian based school and manners are taught and expected. I am so blessed to be a part of this school. I highly recommend this school to everyone.

As a Childcare in San Antonio, we supported the Pre-K for SA initiative that provides free child care options to parents who typically cannot afford it. We do so because we know that children who have the opportunity to attend preschool education, academically do much better than those with no early learning. We will continue to help our community as the opportunity presents itself. Also we would like to thank the Stone Ridge HOA and community for being great neighbors and partners over the years! All parents on CCS/CCDS are welcome to apply.

In the past six years, I've seen my two children blossom in their own individual ways at MSSA. By choosing work that is meaningful to them in an environment that encourages respect and independence, my Lower Elementary and Upper Elementary children have developed skills that continually impress us. They are engaged and interested - not just at school, but in life. Their teachers have kept them inspired and challenged. We feel lucky to have found MSSA and although the tuition is a sacrifice for our family, it is worth every penny!

We LOVE Montessori Schoolhouse We have 2 children at the school and have nothing but positive things to say. Our daughter started at the school at 18 months and is excelling academically. She is 4 now and working on math skills taught in 2nd grade in public schools! This is our sons first year. He started out in the Nido class at 13 months. A new classroom, opened just this year, for 12 months-2 year olds. He loves school and loves exploring his environment. They only cry when its time to go home!!!
