Honestly, Melissa changed by life. I am so indebted to her. I am in my 40s, and have super fine hair, that began thinning at the crown 13 years ago after the birth of my child. I have spent over a decade battling it. I have had every blood test known to man. In sum, it’s heredity, and a hormone imbalance that only menopause will cure. Even so, I’ve tried everything. oils, vitamins, massage, Nioxin, Minoxidil, bio-identicals, Rx meds. I spent a fortune, with no results. The older I got, the more it damaged my self-esteem. When I looked down, or when you stand or sit behind me, you could see my scalp and thin patches. I became a master of concealment. The side part, strategic hairspray, hair fibers, hair pieces. Clip ins that hurt like heck and damaged my hair further. It was exhausting, sad, and so time consuming!Finally, I gave up. I started looking into extensions. Honestly, I was very skeptical. The last thing I wanted was to further my hair loss with “friction alopecia.” I researched nearly all extension stylists in SA. I eliminated the “jack of all, master of none” or one’s that are self-declared specialists who trained via YouTube. I was almost ready to give up. And then I came across “Extensions of Yourself” and Melissa. What a difference! First of all, Melissa is an educated, certified specialist, trained in a variety of methods, has seen it all, & knows her stuff. And it is quite clear that her goal is to help people, not make $. Her compassion is obvious as is her sensitivity to emotions surrounding hair loss. She truly understands what it is like to feel embarrassed about hair. I’ve never met anyone who “gets it” the way she does. In a free consultation, she carefully goes over your options, the prices, and what type of service will best fit your life style. There is no hard sell. She was honest and explained to me that HairDreams extensions can be reused two times, so you don’t have to buy new extensions in 6 months. But others, like Great Lengths, are used once and that’s it, you have to pay for both labor, and new extensions every 6 months or so. Her point was: you can opt for cheaper extensions, but it is false economy if you plan on keeping them longterm. I had been to countless salons that pushed the lower end extensions, fully aware that it means more $$$ for them. After the consult, Melissa encouraged me to think about it for awhile, even when I was ready to whip out my checkbook that very moment! So, I took my time. The cost was reasonable and under market for SA, far less than most salons. I added up all the money I spent on products, the time, the emotional toll it was taking. Two weeks later, I set up my appointment. The hair salon is intimate. You get personal attention without having to deal with the group of gossiping women. It is just you, and Melissa. The process took about 6 hours. I am hyperactive -- but somehow the time flew by. Melissa she puts earbuds in, and listens to music, leaving you free to work on a laptop (free wifi!), read, or whatever. She doesn’t waste your time taking personal calls, texting, or gossiping with other stylists. When she was done, I didn’t even recognize myself. I knew I’d feel better, but I didn’t imagine how much decent hair could improve appearance, and in turn---confidence! It is weird, but having normal hair, can make all your other features look better as well. My natural thin hair emphasized any flaw in my skin, All in all, it has been a life-changing, wonderful experience with Extensions of Yourself. I told Melissa, “I think I will die with my hair extensions in” and I meant it. I could never go back to the struggle I had before I met Melissa. She is truly a blessing. I will be a lifelong client.

I had my first appointment with this salon. The staff is very friendly and the place was clean and stylish. I went in a couple of days in advance to ask questions and was quoted $60 for a conditioning treatment, which would drop to $35 if you included hair color. I made the mistake of not getting a firm answer of how much for a haircut. I have mixed textured curly hair that is slightly shorter than shoulder length. I was assured that they have experience with my hair type. The day of my appointment, I was seen promptly and offered a beverage and snack. My stylist gave me 100% of her attention and answered what questions I had. These are the sweetest ladies you'll meet. The conditioning treatment for my hair was beyond what I have expected. My stylist then spent time giving me a wet cut, straightening my hair, and a dry cut followed. She did a magnificent job at taking away the split ends and giving my hair a healthy look. At the end, my hair was only straightened and not styled as discussed prior to drying. I also asked for a product to help prevent frizz, to which one was applied. The cost of what I requested: shampoo, conditioning treatment, cut, and straightening with a flat iron was $130. I inquired about the breakdown of my cost and was informed the conditioning treatment was $65 and the haircut was $65. I left the salon to another indoor location and my hair was frizzy in 15 minutes. My experience was not horrible but I cannot say it was the best. This is the most I have ever paid for these specific services, ever. I enjoy the feel of my hair and it appears to be healthier but I left there without a style and frizz that followed shortly after.
This experience is not what I expected with the private, small studio. But when Carrie gets ahold of you its awesome. She is extremely artistic when applying makeup so she looks at your face like it is a canvas and begins her work. She gets really involved and does what you want her to do. The thing that I loved about it is that I still didn't even know for sure (after two separate trials) on the wedding day what I wanted done with my hair. I couldn't decide. So Carrie took over and began working my hair into whatever she was doing and when I turned around I fell in love! I hadn't seen anything that looked like that on pinterest or google and it was perfect for me and my face. I even changed things about how I wanted my makeup from the last two times I had been with her and she did whatever I asked and never seemed annoyed with me and my indecisiveness. She was so sweet towards my 5 year old sister and gave her a little bit of sparkle too! She worked with all of my girls with her other team members and had patience and endurance for they were there longer than they intended. I was appreciative of her and her team for staying to do touch ups for after the ceremony as well. I really couldn't have been happier with such a passionate person working with me and remaining calm while I couldn't make a decision to save my life. Just let her be her and she will let you be you. She truly is an artist :) and I grew fond of her soft spirit and her loving nature. I found out about this place from other Yelpers, and boy am I happy that I took their advice. This place is super convenient. I was oblivious to it's existence even though I go to the Dezevala & IH 10 almost every week, but I never think of moseying on over to the University Square (where this little slice of self indulgent heaven is). They accept walk ins which is great because I am horrible at calling ahead when I'm in dire need of a mani/pedi. On the day that I went there was a little bit of a wait but nothing horrible granted that it was a Saturday afternoon and my mom and I were walk-ins. The pedicure was nice and relaxing and although we were originally just going to get pedis we decided to splurge and also try out their shellac nail polish for manis as well. I am officially in love with shellac. They have a ton of colors and walk you through the process if you've never had it done before which is nice. I've had acrylics and I hated how they tore up my nails, with shellac I get the look of the acrylics without having to go through all the pain and hassle of filling them every 2 weeks. PLUS they don't chip! I work in the medical field and am always washing my hands so regular nail polish only lasts 2 days if I'm lucky, so this is my new obsession...and my favorite place to get my fix! I get the french tips in the shellac polish and it runs roughly $30,with mani $40 before tip (for 1 solid color I think I was quoted around $25, with mani $35). I loved this place! they have about 11 techs, they all friendly and helpful. I am highly recommend this place to every one I know
I have been going to Kimmy's for two years and have always had the best service and experience. Every time I go, my boyfriend and I are greeted kindly and the staff hurries to find two pedicure chairs together. (Often times we have to wait a little bit because they are so busy.) We always bring wine and one time we brought a corked bottle instead of our normal New Zealand screw top. They didn't have a corkscrew and went to borrow one from the bar. The next time we came in Kimmy and her sister brought me the corkscrew they had bought just because of our last visit. That is tailored customer service at its finest! We always get the OPI Raw Pedicure + my shellac + his manicure. I nor he, have never had a bad experience in more than 24 visits. On top of the consistent superior quality and customer service, I want to acknowledge that this is a small, women owned business. They work long hours and put everything in to making sure that their customers are taken care of. The "child" referenced in a previous review is Kimmy's nephew. It's a family ran business and he helps his family when needed. Instilling a good work ethic and professionalism is a disservice? To your future? I would highly recommend Kimmy's Nail Salon and have. Every friend, family number and acquaintance that has asked me where I get my nails done has gone to and had a great experience.
I used The Texas Tan services for two months. Angela is great and very helpful. She will go above and beyond to ensure customers are happy. ROOM COMFORT: I didn't like that the rooms are not carpeted. It would be much more comfortable to get undressed if the rooms at least had an area rug or something similar. It is not comfortable to take my shoes and socks off and have to stand on the cold, dirty floor.INDOOR TANNING CONTROLS: There is no appropriate safe tanning regulations. If I go in for the first time and have fair skin, I would be allowed to go on the tanning bed as long as I want, up to the maximum time. New clients may not be aware of the dangers of tanning beds and there is nobody there that will properly advice or regulate. DETACHED OWNER: I had an issue one day and requested to speak to the manager, Mr. Benavides. Another staff member, Amber said it was IMPOSSIBLE to talk to him, as she was the one to handle EVERYTHING. She also stated that Mr. Benavides did not talk to customers. I insisted on speaking with the OWNER, she continued to refuse. I went to Texas Tan Facebook page and emailed the owner, Mr Benavides. He never returned my message. What kind of an owner will make himself unavailable to a paying customer that asks a few minutes of his time? Especially if it concerns his business? That is an owner that does NOT CARE.
I always bring my friends who are in need of a haircut/hairdo to this salon. I've always spoken so highly of Avalon because of all the services they provide. I'm always offered a beverage of choice and treated with dignity and respect by the staff. The customers at this establishment are always pleasant. Booking an appointment is so easy. I come here for Denise because I've established a loyal relationship with her. She is very knowledgeable and I have never left disappointed. My best friend who is in the military came to Denise with damaged and dry hair. With Denise's recommendations, my best friend was extremely satisfied with her now shiny and healthy looking do. As for myself, Denise always does a great cut and color, she listens- and I trust her. Most of all, she's very knowledgeable. I came in with a dry scalp, she treated my hair, and gave me invaluable tips... I woke up this morning with a calm/moisturized scalp, YAYYY!!!Bottom line, Avalon Salon is great. Denise is great, the manager has consistently been welcoming of customers, and the staff have always been wonderful.
First time here at asiana nails lounge. Very nice quick service. I say down to get my nails done and Cody asked what I wanted done. I told him full set with a beautiful pinkish red nail polish. He recommended the shellac and I told him no thank you. After that he became really irritated and started complaining about how I should have a shellac color instead of the one I chose. I told him I like to change my color often on nails that's why I prefer mail polish he started complaining again that no one uses nail polish anymore. If that's true why do you all have a display in the front full of polishes I thought to myself. I told him maybe next time. He started complaining again. Omg by the run time of his complaints I was tired I told him fine just do the shellac then he stoped complaining. I was never asked once by Cody if I wanted a drink but everyone around me was given one. He had a bad attitude and bad customer service. I'll never go their again. Oh and I almost forgot and after all that he tells me you need to leave a top how much are you giving me. Really ..... Never agsin
Glamour Nails is dirty and their customer service is of poor quality. I went to Glamour for a pedicure. The owner walked me to the back and had me sit in a pedicure station. He did not turn the water on. In other nail salons I have went to, if there was going to be a wait, they would soak your feet, turn on a massage chair, and offer you a bottle of water. Glamour Nails did neither. I sat in the chair for 25 minutes without being acknowledged. I watched the technician to the right of me as she finished up a pedicure. She did not spray the foot soak area with a disinfectant cleaner. She grabbed a filthy sponge from her cart and just wiped the inside. She then grabbed her cuticle cutters, pumice stone, callus remover, and put it back in her cart. She then moved down to the next person and started to work on their feet with the same instruments. I got up from the chair and walked out. They tried their best to talk me into staying. The owner yelled five more minutes. I said no thanks! Another customer said that they waited 35 minuted before she was taken care of.
When I met Laura I had already had permanent makeup done on my lips and eye brows. The previous makeup artist had tattooed my lips dark red and had tattooed my eyebrows uneven. I looked terrible and my self esteem was horribly low. I looked for every solution possible from wrecking ball to lasers. After one treatment with Laura my lips were lightened to a pink tone. After my third treatment they were a perfect light mauve pink. My original reason for getting my lips done was that I have very thin lips. Laura was able to make it look like my top lip didn't disappear when I smiled. It looks natural too which is great because My fiancé doesn't like the look of makeup and being active duty military I can't have the look of excessive makeup. She was able to even my eyebrows as well. I was on the verge of tears after my appointment with her. I am very particular about how I like my makeup done and Laura worked with me until I was satisfied. -Bonny
