My family and I have frequented this restaurant on many occasions and I used to also recommend this restaurant to my colleagues at the University of Utah as an elegant place to bring conference guests. Although we had begun to notice that the quality of the place was dipping, the ambiance always compensated.
Our recent experience began with a rude, condescending, haughty waiter, Taylor, that actually turned out to be the manager. We asked a simple question and received a convoluted answer and when we asked for clarification, Taylor proceeded to treat us as if we were kindergarten students that had messed up his sand box. We were on the verge of leaving after our appetizers were churning in our stomachs, when we decided to try to change to another waitperson. As a punishment for not listening to instructor Taylor, we were left without any service for half an hour. Finally, Lindsay was gracious enough to accommodate our needs, despite the fact that she had practically the entire restaurant to serve with the exception of two tables.
The Coq au Vin was dry, bony and had no sauce. It wasn't even worth taking leftovers home.
We don't mind spending over $100 for a relaxing atmosphere and good food, but this experience was exactly the opposite.
I live abroad and my parents live in the Avenues in Salt Lake and we will never recommend this establishment to anyone. We were severely disappointed.

I've been going to this restaurant (albeit infrequently) since it opened. I loved it because the food was so reliably haute bourgois/bistro/brasserie cuisine. No longer as of tonight....ordered an amazing appetizer; a wild mushroom tartine with black truffle. I was sooo anticipating my special. The Coq au Vin. I've eaten this in loads of French restaurants, including in France and it was awful. I can say I am 50 and I have never returned a meal....lol..it was over salted, very dry and served on lasagna noodles!!!!
Then I had a word with the owner and the chef after they refused to take it off the bill...well, they did. The are not gentlemen nor are the proper restaurateurs. I've had a better exchange of ideas with Raymond Blanc and he has way more credentials than these guys do. Stay well clear for the money.

I eat here often. The steak is amazing, as is the tuna. The risotto dishes are creamy and perfect--especially good with large butterflied shrimp which are always tender and juicy. Even the chicken dish (served with seasonal vegetables) is mouthwatering. But don't get me started, you don't have to spend a fortune here, after a film or gallery stroll, a simple dinner with good wine on the patio: their burger or wood fired pizzas (believe it or not) are the best secrets in town. Order coffee after your meal and they bring out a french press full of aromatic java (enough for two). The atmosphere is warm, the whole place glows with an amber light.

This place is simply amazing!!! The most stunning steak au poivre I have ever had in the united states, and quite frankly comes second to none of those I tasted in France!!!!
The only steak tartare this side of the country....

I have lived in the Harvard/Yale area for a number of years now and have always driven or jogged by The Paris Bistro. Since a lot of my friends rave about this place, I have always wanted to come in and try it out with my wife, and unfortunately have not had a chance to do so until a couple of days ago....
I was conquered!
What a jewel of a restaurant!!! It felt like being in the French capital without having to deal with the occasional pompous parisian attitude of some French waiters! The decor, the banquettes, the antique bar and art deco ballerina statuette made us feel like we had magically and instantaneously traveled to the city of light without having to deal with airports and crowded airplanes...
Everything about our experience turned out to be fantastic: the service was prompt and almost invisible, our water glasses were always filled to the rim, the food was to die for... so in tune with the season! I had a stuffed round zucchini filled with quinoa and local vegetable wich I was told were all grown right here in Utah. I am not a vegetarian, but could just as well become one if only all vegetarian foods tasted like the meal I had that night. I enjoyed a glass of ros? which paired perfectly well with my zucchini.
The irony of my visiting the Paris bistro is that my wife and I had just returned from a business trip to Brussels and Paris during which we spent oodles of money on hotels and Michelin starred restaurants. Despite the small fortunes we spent abroad on food and lodging, we have not experienced anything as great as the experience we had that night at the Paris Bistro....
And to think that is was right here in my back yard for all these years!!!!
I now have a new favorite restaurant as well as a new ""destination"". I shall return often!
I just stopped by at the Paris the other night for a quick drink and an appetizer and ended up spending the whole evening sitting at the bar conversing with total strangers about wine and politics!!!
I have been going to The Paris for years for I ADORE their zinc bar, and their oh so Parisian ambiance. Every time I cross the door's threshold, I am transported far away from the land of Zion... I think we are very lucky to have such a treasure in our neighborhood
Everything here is so spot on... the service, the food, the music, the decor.... Food does indeed take a little time sometimes, but then again, since everything is made fresh and to order, I just have yet another glass of wine and salivate in anticipation!

We did not have a reservation and felt like we were intruding by the way we were treated.
I found a long hair in my salad and when I pointed this out to the waiter I was told that none of there chefs had long hair. I expected to have the waiter apologize and get me a new salad. Not debate who's hair it was I pulled from my salad as my friend was turning green while trying to eat her dinner.
We waited over an hour for our food even though there were only a few other tables taken. When I'm paying that much money for a nice dinner I expect better service and better food.

We were some of the first people in the door, but we waited 1.5 hours for our entrees (there were 2 of us, and many large groups came in well after us and were served well before us). The risotto was not properly cooked--the texture was horrible, and it tasted like something you would get out of a Western Family box. The meat was cooked beyond recognition. When we asked the waiter the reason for the lengthy delay in preparing the food, he said that ""it takes a long time to cook food."" If they were cooking the meat for this long, that would explain it.
The sturgeon was the lone bright spot--and it was very good. I will give it one more shot, but we were sorely disappointed that a restaurant with so much potential would screw it up so badly.

We love the paris and frequent there often. Recently, we dined and had wonderful food and service. However,the unfortunate part was the obvious owner Eric. He was treating his staff like they were ""little errand boys"". He was yelling, obnoxious and rude. We were watching in awe wondering how someone could treat people like this, I know from experience they dont do that in Paris!!!! To top it off, there was a hair in a salad (which is bad) . He proceeded to hold the hair in the air, dangling for all staff and customers to see. WOW. We were shaking our heads, paid our bill and got ready to leave. Eric's wife quietly stood up and helped my disabled friend out the door while Eric was still making a scene yelling at the chefs in the open kitchen. Food and atmosphere good, service good, owner bad......I would love to just tip the staff

My wife and I came to the Paris a few of weeks ago for a late night dinner. We noticed on the door that the restaurant closed at 9:30 and it was already 9:20. Without a reservation we were afraid that we may be turned away or the service would be poor and speedy due to our late arrival. We were pleasantly surprised when a young man quickly came to the door and opened it for us with a warm greeting. He then proceeded to quickly reset the table we had requested (near the window,) sit us down and get us some water. Shortly after, Joel approached our table and recommended us FANTASTIC wine and dinner options. We did not have anything particular in mind so we took his recommendations openly. Throughout the course of the meal my wife and I were again pleased with the amount of attention we were receiving from our server Joel and the bus-boy Brandon who was actually the one who greeted us and sat us for dinner. Our Appetizers and Main courses were perfectly spaced for my wife and I to enjoy them and still have time to relax and enjoy each others company. We decided to skip desert because we were stuffed with delicious red meat and wine. After signing our very reasonably priced bill and heading for the door our bus-boy made sure to open it for us and wish us a well on our travels home. The Paris Bistro comes highly recommended from us and we will be sure to dine there again soon.
