Good Enough

Star of India is a good backup place to go. I consider it the Applebee's of Indian food. It's fine, not great, the service is also fine, but go somewhere else if you have a chance, or if you can't find parking.

Editorial review from Citysearch

I'm convinced Indian food buffets are what they serve in heaven. I can't imagine a better dining situation that 15 entrees to chose from, three different types of fried bread and a huge...

One of the other attorneys at the firm

One of the other attorneys at the firm I work for convinced me to try this place. Their food is amazing, it is a little out of the way if you don't live in town but worth the drive. perfect date resturant.

The restaurant was clean, the food delicious

The food at this downtown SLC restaurant is wonderful. All their tandoori dishes are well prepared and the naan is generous sized and baked to perfection. The lamb is delicious. Well spiced and obviously made from quality meat. Make sure you use the mint sauce that accompanies the meal. It has a real nice spice that compliments the meat. The chicken has the texture of organic game and the shrimp are a nice size. We had the tandoori platter and a lamb dish, both which we would order again. We went on a Tuesday evening and were able to be seated right away since they aren't as busy as the weekend. The restaurant was clean, the food delicious

It was a fun experience

My husband and I found Star of India and decided to give it a try. We were both kind of skeptical because we'd never had Indian food before but when we finally got our appetizer, Chicken Tikka Masala, and delicious nan to share we were SO happy we stopped in to try it. It was a fun experience to eat there and it had a nice atmosphere. We are very excited to go back and try something new next time! I would say it's my new favorite type of food!

The people are warm, knowledgeable, and eager to help.

I have been going to Star of India for over six years in both the old and new location and hold it as the gold standard against every other indian restaurant I go to in the US.

The people are warm, knowledgeable, and eager to help.

The Chana Masala is the best i've had in the world. Highly recommended.

The food, service and prices are great

The food, service and prices are great. Being Indian and eating at a lot of Indian Restaurants Star has got to be my favorite. My fiance and I eat there 2 times a week. We always go Saturday for their amazing buffet, and dinner time to order off the menu. It's great!! 5 stars hands down!!

Best Indian Food in Town

This is my favorite restaurant in all of Salt Lake City. The food is amazing and I have taken literally dozens of people there for the first time and they always love it.
Favorites are Chicken Tikka Sagwala, Chicken Tikka Masala, Lamb Shahi Korma and the Raita. They also have terrific Mulligatawny and vegetable samosas.
The service is always personalized and friendly and the restaurant is always clean.
We love going early in the evening to catch a Bollywood movie with dinner. This is a Salt Lake institution that has earned it's reputation.

Great Place, Awesome for Vegans, Vegetarians, and Omnivores

I have been a huge fan of Star of India for years. They have never disappointed and have remained hands down the best indian restaurant in the state. Definitely do not pass this place up.

Best Indian Food in town

This was my first time visit in Star of India. By hearing the ""Best food title "" from my friends I decided i would give it a try.It was friday night, Not for a suprise i think it was craziest bussiest place in town. There was a huge waiting list. The waitress made me feel comfortable. All of the staffs were friendly and welcomed us.
Aghhh, finally we were seated. The resturant was so clean and had a perfect environment. The waitess expalined all the foods and gave the best reccomendation to me.Our food was ready so quickly and i could not belive it......Gosh It was the super delicious food i had eaten in my life time.

I have decied i will surely vist this place again!!!!

Don't do it

My experience was horrible!!! First, the waiter never mentioned how severely hot one plate would be. My friend burned her thumb so badly it was already blistering in less than 5 minutes. I asked for one order of Garlic Naan, and for some reason changed my friend's regular naan (that was supposed to come with meal) to garlic naan and charged us for it. They never once stopped by to see how our we were doing or how our food tasted. I thought the Chicken Tiki Masala was dry. I could have made something better at home. In less than 40 minutes after arriving, we were given our check by someone other than our original server, and asked to hurry and eat fast--people were waiting and needed a table. NEVER have I been asked to leave a restaurant because of high traffic. There was only one couple waiting. That is why waiting lists exists. We still had half or more of our food left to eat! On the whole, nothing good to report. I was disappointed and will never go back. I will also tell everyone I know about this experience. There are other Indian places in SLC with better service and better food.

All my friends love Star of India, as do I

With all you can eat lunch buffet for $9.95 you should stay home and save your money if you cannot afford this. I look forward to all the fantastic selections every week and savor every great taste. They always have the best tasting food every single time, and a great variety to select from. The staff is always helpful and courteous. The Star special dinner is fantastic & under $20, can't beat that! Looking forward to my next visit very soon!

Not worth the money

The portions for dinner are half the size of any other Indian restuarant I have been to in SLC for the price. The food is below average. The service was so so. The staff seemed more interested in watching a show instead of working.Should have known since the place was empty !!. Left a 18.5 % tip and waitress demanded a 20% tip ..I was very insulted !! Far better India restuarant are throughout in Salt Lake area !! Will not be back..
