My experience with this state and federal funded program has not been helpful. I am currently being prevented from accessing safe, secure affordable housing due to their polices that directly impact people of color. I had to hire a lawyer to advocate on my behalf while I'm appealing my housing denial. I am a single parent and a full time college student who has experienced barriers that are currently being used against me by this company; without any valid reason that justifies the legal requirements stated in their own rental criteria or mandated by the Federal Fair Housing Act. Its unfortunate that I have to fight for my civil liberties with this " non profit company" who claims that their goal is to help people not hinder them; which is a major disservice. Considering the fact that the organizations mission statement asserts that helping families who come from a low income or adverse background is their goal. It seems that equal opportunity is something that is not being regarded for my family, and I when it comes down to it. I'm hoping my lawyer can talk some sense into these people and they end up doing the right thing.
