The Classical Ballet Academy of Minnesota is the official school of Ballet Minnesota, located in St. Paul. Cofounded in 1987 by Andrew and Cheryl Rist, we are dedicated to the pursuit of artistry in dance through public presentations and education. We offer ballet instruction for all levels: - Pre- Ballet, ages 4 to 6 - Beginning, levels 1 to 3, ages 7+ - Intermediate, levels 4 to 6, ages 11+ - Advanced, levels 7 to 8 - Boy's Class, ages 5+ We have had graduates receive full and partial scholarships to the college of their choice. The history behind our academy: Our first year included a Nutcracker lecture/ demonstration performed to about 150 people. Today, the Nutcracker is presented to over 10,000. The production was presented under the name Ballet Minnesota, although the company would not be incorporated until 1990. In 1988 the 1st annual Minnesota Dance Festival was produced at the St Paul Student Center Theater on the St Paul Campus of the University of Minnesota. Ballet Minnesota assumed full responsibiliy for the festival, in 1990. The first official performance by Ballet Minnesota was a tribute perfromance for then mayor George Latimer. In 1992 Cynthia Betz became associated with Ballet Minnesota. Along with Cheryl and Andrew, Cynthia has been a driving force in the establishment of Ballet Minnesota as a major arts group in MInnesota. Cynthia created the first TASTE THE ARTS event which has now become a part of the Ballet Minnesota season.
