I have routinely taken my car to Dobbs but only for routine oil changes and tires and have had no issues. I had always used the downtown location as I work downtown. When my car developed a brake fluid leak and consequently loss of braking I took it to a Dobbs right by my home (Dobbs at 9598 Olive). They said I needed a "complete brake overhaul" of my front brakes that included new rotors, new calipers, and new pads. They also said I needed 2 brake hoses to repair the leak. They said it would be $1100.00. Based on past experiences with brake repairs I knew that was outrageous. When I balked at that price he immediately said "because I am a regular customer" he could knock it down to $900. Knowing this was still outrageous and also knowing I had just replaced the pads and replaced both rotors less than 12,000 miles ago I knew something was wrong. When I questioned the need for new rotors the guy at Dobbs told me they were too worn to be turned. I knew this couldn't be true as they were less than a year old and had NEVER been turned. At this point I knew they were crooks and started looking for another close by repair shop. I found Henry's and based on the other review on this site I decided to give them a try. When they went to pick up my car Dobbs wanted an extra $40 for checking out my brakes. However they had also performed a state inspection which requires them to check out the brakes as part of the inspection. I probably would not have thought of that but Henry's called me when they went to pick up the car to give me a "heads up" reminding me that it was part of a state safety inspection and I shouldn't be paying for the same thing twice. The guy at Dobbs didn't want to refund it but finally did but couldn't have been ruder or a bigger jerk once he knew I was taking the car elsewhere. Henry's repaired my car and the total charge was $180!!!!! That included $40 for towing, a state re-inspection, and the repair of a rear brake light. They also told me my front brakes had 50% life left and the rear 75%. My calipers and rotors were also just fine and I only needed one brake line hose. My brakes worked great and I saved almost $800 had I left it at Dobb's. I needed my transmission fluid changed and on my next visit to Henry's I gave them carte blanche to fix whatever else needed fixing (potentially dangerous I know) and even though my Dodge minivan has almost 80k miles on it they only suggested a few realtively minor maintenenance items that I knew were long overdue anyway. I had asked them to change my plugs but they didn't as they checked them for free and said they were just fine! The work they did was GREAT! Bottom line, Jerry and Barry (owners) are great guys who are HONEST and believe in not screwing the consumer. I will be a customer for life and can not recommend this shop MORE highly. By the way, NEVER GO TO DOBBS -- EVER!!!!!!!!!
I rolled into Quality Transmission as a last ditch effort to see if they could diagnose shifting issues I was having with my Ranger, this, just four days after having the clutch replaced. Thinking major transmission issues were on the horizon, I was toying with the idea of not dropping anymore money into this vehicle and just purchasing something else. Pat had Gary look at the problem and he quickly figured out it wasn't the tranny at all but a known issue of Ford hydraulic clutch systems being very difficult to bleed, hence, air was in the system causing loss of clutch functionality. Gary spent over an hour bleeding the system and checking it out. In the end...shifting was back to normal and as smooth as silk. After Pat presented me with the bill I almost couldn't believe what he was charging based on the time spent. I'd say I stole the service with how cheap it was. I still don't know why he charged so little but I appreciate it. While waiting for service to be completed Pat took numerous phone calls and could easily diagnose transmission issues over the phone for people. I think he keeps a "little black book" with crib notes. A mechanic who can do this, and be right, saves everyone time and money. As an engineer I know my limitations and typically do all my own truck repairs, however, I some cases I know when to leave things to the pros. I'm adding Quality Transmission to my list of preferred places when I need transmission work performed. Thanks again QTS!
Sat 45 minutes for 1 used tire, They told me they didn't have the exact size but they had one for my car. After 15 minutes turns out that the tire they had to sell me " 45 dollars " had a hole in it. they didn't tell me that. instead they attempt to retrieve another tire from somewhere else while I wait. When the technician returns they find out there is a hole in this same tire. Still while I sit in the waiting room nobody tells me in the mean time that they don't have the tire. They attempt to leave and get another tire. When he gets back with the " other tire " it turns out this tire has a hole in the exact same spot. They laugh about how he is so stupid he grabbed the same tire and left the other one. after the long wait they inform me they can't do anything for me. I am a working college student after leaving my job early to make it there before class starts they wasted a whole hour of my day attempted to overcharge me found amusement in they horrible service provided and sent me on my way with big middle finger. Up until this day this place was the only place I would bring my car for repairs because it was close. I would not come back or recommend this place to anybody I know. over priced, and they don't appreciate loyal paying customers. My advice. Don't waste your time coming to this place. It's a shame you can't rely on a good shop in your neighborhood to do honest work with good customer service. Horrible and inconvenient experience. I will not go back for work here again.
I have been every where trying to find a dealer to finance me on the truck I wanted to buy and I fell for the "Slap yo Momma" guy on the radio and it was a joke. Its not really a bank like the ad says and its a used car lot with old and high mileage cars. I was going to say hell with it and just buy a $3500 truck and make payments to my brother, he was online and found something about credit repair I filled out the online credit application at stlrebuild and within like a half hour I got approved. Barrett Henry is the person who does the credit at Don Brown. He is truthfully the best guy I have ever met just dealing with day to day transactions. I don't normally do much commenting online about buying stuff I felt this guy deserves some glory. I had some jacked up credit and he made it happen with 1000 bucks down. The only other deal that someone had offered me was for a 10 year old truck putting 2500 down and then I would have had to pay another 5000 grand NO WAY if you want a good deal and save yourself all the trouble of getting jerked around call Barrett Henry and be upfront with him worked for me.
The guys at B&B are very knowledgeable they are able to repair anything and don’t need a computer to tell them what is wrong. If you want them to repair something that is what they repair; they don’t require you to repair things that don’t need it just to guarantee their work. They do not discriminate because you have an older vehicle as well. Some places will tell you it’s not worth it…well it may be worth it to you. You may not have the money to buy a brand new car. They don’t charge you more than the work is worth. They don’t gouge you. As far as second hand parts…I know they have used factory re-furbished parts to help us save money but they were up-front about it. Auto Zone sells the exact same type of parts. I have had more trouble from Auto Zone parts than anywhere. I have never had to take my car back to B&B for anything they have worked on. They have never said they could not repair my car and they have always gotten me in-and-out in a timely manner. They have saved us several times, like the title says they are my heroes.
had a really good experience purchasing a car from Don Brown Chevrolet. I would have to say that everyone was very warm and friendly. I was help by both Paul DeYoung, who did an AMAZING job with helping me with my vehicle, and he has one of the best personalities ever! Ben Cordia assisted me as well and they made the experience a breeze. I was especially pleased that everything was done in a timely manner. The only complaint I would have is that when I spoke with Ben on the phone, he stated I would be able to get customer cash that would only apply to the vehicle that I was purchasing. I was never offered that. Once I got home, and the excitement from my purchase wore off, I remembered, but it was too late, the deal was done. I would recommend going forward that they not tell people they will do something for them that they have no intention of doing. Overall I was happy and would purchase again, I just would make sure that I don't sign the contract until I receive all verbal agreements.
My daughter had our 02 grand caravan at this Midas for an overheating problem that caused my daughter to be stuck away from family and home. She stopped in for service on the overheating problem and the Mgr. (Mike) spoke with Michelle and called me to let me know the situation. It seems the coolant flush done by another repair facility earlier that same day had not had all the air taken out of the coolant system and that bubble of air was causing an overheating problem. Midas only charged my daughter/ and I for the 15 minutes of time it took to remove the air pocket and get her on her way. In this day and age when you cannot count (obviously, the first repair faciltiy)on everyone doing the job right it is good to know there are still good business' out there who will go above and beyond to do the right thing. Grays has been fantastic. They have always done honest work for us and have on several occasions corrected errors of other places. For example, we had our car inspected at another shop that said we needed a 700 dollar replacement of the power steering pump for our Mazda MPV. Within 20 minutes the mechanic at Grays determined that it was transmission fluid from a leaking line that was blowing on the pump. The leak was fixed for about 50 dollars including the diagnosis. We have had other similar experiences. To anybody skeptical, just go to their shop and look in the waiting room at all the testimonial cards and letters, the newspaper articles, the certifications and the Angie's list award. Grays will not always tell you what you want to hear, but they will tell you what you need to hear and charge you a reasonable price for reasonable, honest and friendly service.
I have been going to Christian brothers for a while now and I don't trust my car with anyone else. My wife and I recently looked at a car in Brentwood area to buy. We were told that they do a 125 point inspection and the car was in tip top shape. My wife went with her grandfather, purchased the vehicle, and took it directly to Christian brothers. Once there there was almost 3,000 dollars worth of issues with the car. It wouldn't even have passed inspection. I guess they must have "missed" those items in their 125 point inspection. So we took the car back. Got cussed out. But got our money back. Christian brothers saved us all that money and didn't even charge for their inspection. I have had nothing but respect shown and honesty given from them and will recommend them to anyone without hesitation.
What do you want in a mechanic? Trustworthy? Fair price? Good Customer Service? Steve at STS Car Care and Towing delivered all of these things! The guys in the shop were super nice as well and didn't make me feel out of place or uncomfortable. These guys are experienced and fair. I have no worries when I take my car in; I know I am being treated well. They will even pick my car up at my place of business and take it to the shop to services it and then bring it back or if I drop it off they will provide me with a ride to work if I need to leave it. I have had to have my car towed before also and they were prompt, reasonable, and provided me with a ride to my destination. I have been going there for 10 years. 5 stars in my book.
