We used Kennelwood for boarding and grooming of our dogs. Kennelwood is very professional and you know your pets are in good hands. The quarters for the pets are good sized and kept clean. We also used Kennelwood for one-on-one dog obedience training for a challenging and active dog. The training was very successful and both we and our pet are happier.
My dogs love coming here. This location has the cabana rooms which have a small private outdoor run attached, so the dogs can go in and out as they please. They also allow my 3 small dogs to be boarded in the same room (extra charge per dog) which I really like. The staff here treats my dogs so well; over the many years I have taken them here-they have formed attachments to some of the long time staff. My dogs always come back happy from their stays here. At this location, you can drop off before hours for a small charge (I've had to drop them off at 3:30 am before a trip before) and you can also pick them up after hours for a small charge. I love this feature, and so no longer worry when my flights are delayed. They are in a location which is very convenient to the airport, so even though these is a location much closer to my house, this is the one I use.
My dogs came home with kennel cough after just one night? And they just had a booster a week earlier. I called and suggested they used 10% bleach to decontaminate the place I was told kennel cough is an airborne illness, but i work in a Lab and know germs can reside on surfaces. They were not fed even half of the food they should have been. It just seems from some of the other stuff i am reading on the web that they may just be taking in too many pets to maximize the bottom line? Just one view....
I used this place for boarding and it was horrible. I paid close to 100 dollars per day and they couldn't tell me for sure if they fed my dogs the first night that they were there. They also came home with unopened food that I had packed for them. Again the staff couldn't explain this. If they are confused/forgetting to feed my dogs then there is other stuff that they are forgetting
I took my two dogs here for a few nights. The customer service stinks,I thought it was because they were busy. But when I came to pick up my dogs there was no one there except me and they were just as rude. Both of my dogs had kennel cough.
Come to find out my cousin worked there, and told me stories.
I would suggest finding somewhere else to board your dog!(If you Love your animal)

I have taken both of my dogs to Dave van Garderen at Kennelwood for training starting when they were four months old. I have found Dave to be both professional and caring for my dogs and my training desires for them. Both of my dogs are very large and I wanted them to be trained to be well behaved and to walk with me without pulling me. Not only did Dave train my dogs, and me, how to walk nicely together, he also trained my older dog to compete in Rally Obedience and to become a therapy dog. Therapy dog work is something that my older dog and I love to do together and I am so proud of how well behaved he is during these visits. When I take my dogs out in public, I get many compliments on how well mannered they are and that is something that I could not have accomplished without Dave's training. I have referred my daughter and many of my friends to Dave for training their dogs and they have all been very well pleased with the results of the training and with Dave's very professional manner. In addition, he is a very nice young man and my dogs love him!
I have also used Kennelwood for grooming and boarding and I have been very pleased. Everyone that I have met at Kennelwood is extremely nice and very professional and I will never take my dogs anywhere else!

We have used Kennelwood for Dog training for many years now and we prove our loyalty by driving almost 100 miles every week to be part of Dave's dog training class! Not only does he help train my sons service dog but he also played a huge role in the rescue and rehab of our Shilo Shepherd Angus. Without Dave's passion for dogs and expertise in training we would have not been able to keep our animals. The transformation of the animals is amazing and we never get tired of seeing how much the dogs love working for him. Don't waist your time and money by going anywhere else but Kennelwood and ask for Dave! He is a true inspiration and someone we highly respect.

After the passing of our senior dog a couple of years ago, my husband & I decided to adopt/rescue another dog. Since we had watched just about every episode of the “Dog Whisper”, it was decided to have the new dog professionally trained. We had used Kennelwood Pet Resorts at Lindbergh & Page for boarding & grooming in the past & it made sense to start there with our training needs. We were referred to Dave van Garderen & we were pleasantly pleased to see his desk was the one filled with trophies that we had admired on our past visits!
Not only did Dave train our dog for basic obedience but also gave us a view into a dogs world/life that we had not thought of before. He displaced endless patience & knowledge about dogs with us & to our dog. It became very clear that not only is Dave knowledgeable about dogs but very passionate about the dog’s well-being, it is no secret that a trained dog is a happy dog! We have a perfectly well behaved dog that is quite fun to live with & sometimes to show off as we go for walks & to the local pet supply store, etc. Since then we have adopted another dog & there was NO question in our minds who to go to for training. We have referred Dave to two other family members & many friends who also love living with their well-behaved family member! We HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend Dave van Garderen with Kennelwood Pet Resorts for your dog training. Old dogs can learn new tricks at our adopted dog did!
Waging our tail in St. Louis

Took my 3 dogs there for boarding while I was on vacation. They were there for over a week and everything was fine when I picked them up. One of my dogs had been there several years ago for day camp and as soon as I mentioned ""camp"" to him he started to go crazy with excitement. I would definitely recommend this facility for boarding needs.

I have been using Kennelwood since moving to St. Louis and I am happy to share my experience of Kennelwood online. I got a little Westie early spring 2011. His first experience was their wonderful (and free) puppy playtime and puppy grooming. He was one of the first puppies to enjoy their newly constructed play area and exhausted himself he was having such an enjoyable time.
Subsequently, he has experienced their training, grooming and boarding services. Over several months, I have noticed a pattern - his tail starts wagging the moment we pull into the car park. He can't wait to enter the reception area. He goes off with a member of staff wagging his tail and without a backward glance to me. When I pick him up, he is a happy little chap who appears to have had a very good time. His loves their grooming service and always looks great.
I have been very pleased with the care and attention my dog has received there. Not only that, but many of my neighbors tell me they have used Kennelwood for donkeys years.
The staff are caring and professional and you can't fool a Westie. They may be cute little bundles of fluff but underneath all that, they are 100% terrier and as smart as they come. If he didn't enjoy his visits, I would definitely know. Therefore, I am happy to recommend Kennelwood as it was recommended to me by multiple neighbors in my street..

We boarded our two dogs here - an older pug and a young chihuahua - and picked them up on 8/4/11 and they both have kennel cough and the pug esp. is very sick. Apparently a lot of dogs have gotten sick. The pug also came home with a bladder infection. Kennelwood refunded half our boarding fee but were pretty cavalier (like hey it happens) and didn't even ask how our dogs were doing. Our dogs have all their vaccinations - we have used kennelwood for years but would never use them again

Adequate for cat boarding (unfortunately, there's nothing in the US like British catteries, where the cats actually have room to run around) but if you ask for grooming, make sure they've actually done it. I got home--30 miles away--before I realized they had charged me for a nail trim and file that they hadn't actually done. Drag.

I just wanted to say that I don't personally know anything about your experience here. But after reading your review, you seem to be a little misinformed about the source of your puppy's roundworms. I am a Veterinary Technician Student and I know that the prepatent period for roundworms is about 3-4 weeks. Which means that the time between your puppy's infection to when he/she would start shedding worms or eggs in the feces would be 3-4 weeks. Therefore it is impossible that your baby got roundworms from visiting the groomer for one day and be shedding worms the next. Furthermore, 90% of puppies will have roundworms. It is fairly common. They get them from the mother actually. It is passed through the placenta and through the mother's milk. I think that you unfairly accused kennelwood of ""giving"" your baby roundworms and you should probably remove that part from your review...

I used to work here. See Doggie Day Camp for yourself. To watch what goes on, take Page and turn on RUCKERT RD (it's only on one side of Page.) Doggie Day Camp is on your left and there is a small gravel parking lot. You can see Doggie Day Camp for the large dogs from the road. Or just pull into the parking lot.
For photos of how dogs are treated at KW, go to zootoo dot com and search for Kennelwood. These are photos taken by another former employee.
When you take a tour, you will only see 1 of 3 dog areas that the dogs are housed in. They will tell you that they cannot take you to see the other dog areas for liability reasons. This makes no sense as there are just as many dogs walking around by the dog area they show you as there are by the other dog area.
If you saw the other dog areas, you would see dilapidated kennels that I believe have not be updated since the place opened in 1974. Only the dog area they show you has been updated.
This place reminded me of a bad nursing home where there are patients screaming out for help constantly and no one cares or does anything about it. I couldn't stand being in the dog areas.
It was truly emotionally traumatic working there. I'm so glad I am no longer there, but I feel horrible about what most dogs go through that stay there overnight.
Again, please see for yourself before you board your dog or send him/her to Doggie Day Camp.

I took my 5 month old puppy to get groomed at this Kennelwood a couple months ago. He was young and is non-shedding anyway so he just needed a bath, nail trim and ear cleaning. I called first, gave all my info and got a price quote - something like $25.
When I got there they were very friendly and happy to play with my puppy. Not so much interested in talking to me about services and prices. I had printed out services from the website and was asking about them and they were talking about completely different things. They wouldn't quote me on the spot. I told them what I had been quoted on the phone and they said that only the groomer herself would be able to price it.
Anyway, when I came to pick my puppy up, they told me that the price was about $15 more than originally quoted. Ridiculous! They finally gave me 10 percent off for being a ""new customer"" but that was all.
The worst came that night and the next morning. He started pooping out roundworms!!!!
Thanks Kennelwood!!!! I won't come back and neither will any of my family or friends!
This definitely isn't as bad as other reviews I've read here. I'm glad my dog wasn't seriously neglected or hurt, but I thought I needed to share.

I usually leave my cat at home when we leave town. A friend usually stops by to check on her. However, at my last vacation my friend was unavailable. We toured many places and nothing compared to the type of accommodations that Kennelwood has to offer for the cats! My cat had her very own fish aquarium in the walls of her CONDO. Yes, I did say Condo. It was four different levels and her litter box was behind what they called a ""privacy panel."" The place smelled great and was very clean.
I have been going to Kennelwood Pet Resorts for almost 10 years and I highly reccomend all of their services. Currently, my dogs participate in DayCamp on a weekly basis and they visit the spa approximately every three weeks to get beautiful and pampered. My dogs love DayCamp because they get the chance to play with their regular DayCamper friends. I also love DayCamp because when my kids return home they are exhausted. I have put my three dogs through the Kennelwood board and train program and I have also participated in group classes. I believe in the training programs that Kennelwood offers as I have three well behaved and obedient dogs. Kennelwood has been great to me and my dogs. We are very happy to have such a wonderful all service pet hotel in St. Louis!
My boyfriend and I adopted a 4 month old lab mix. We tried to leave him home alone all day while we were at work but he started chewing on the furniture and going to the bathroom on the rugs. A co-worker of mine mentioned kennelwood's day camp program. We toured the place and decided to try it. Best decision ever! Our puppy absolutely loves it!! I went to Kennelwood on my lunch hour and watched him play at camp. He was running around like a crazy man. The kennelwood workers that were supervising camp were playing fetch with him and a few other dogs. Some workers were sitting on the ground petting more of the layed back dogs. My puppy comes home and all he wants to do is sleep. He seems so much more happy now that he goes to Kennelwood. (My boyfriend and I are too!)

I just picked my dog up from his third visit to Kennelwood in as many years. This will be his last visit. Each time I have gone to pick up my dog I have left angry or upset. The staff is not very friendly, if not down right rude. The last time I boarded my dog there he came home with raw open skin down the back sides of both of his front legs. They took me inside to get him from his ""Suite"", and there was no bed in his room (which I was paying extra money for) and his pillow (which I had brought from home) was covered in urine. He had not been outside at all that morning, and it was easily 9am by that point (they open at 7am). They told me that he wasn't using the bed so they took it out so he could have extra room. I didn't buy it.
This morning when I picked up my dog they asked if anyone had called to tell me that my dog had worms? No, they hadn't. No phone calls, no information from them at all. He didn't have worms before he went in there, and I can see no evidence that he has worms now. As the ""kennel manager"" was leaving to go back to the back room, another woman was bringing my dog out to me from his kennel, and I guess she didn't realize the door wasn't closed all the way and I overheard her say something as the two of them crossed paths about how disgusting my dog was with his worms. That was the last straw. The employees were so rude this morning, my dog was so hungry and thirsty when I got him home as though he hadn't had a meal in days, and I had to give him a bath because he had stains on his back side as though he had been sitting in his own feces. My dog is the happiest dog in the world and he always leaves there sad, depressed and angry. Kennelwood is not worth the money. I'm sure there are better alternatives out there.
