Preventive Care

Dental Care
Because cats do not readily allow daily teeth brushing, chances are at some point in your cat’s life they will need a dental cleaning.
Vaccination
We consider any cat 10 years or older to be a Senior Cat. At the age of 10, your cat is essentially equivalent to a 56 year old human. For that reason, we recommend starting routine diagnostic testing in addition to updating any vaccinations. The earlier we detect disease, the better chance we have at successfully treating it.
Behavioral Counseling
When high blood pressure starts it can cause behavior changes such as vocalization, seeming “lost” at night, and dilated pupils. As it continues or gets worse, it can lead to retinal hemorrhage or detachment and blindness as well as damage to many organs including the kidneys and brain. It is important to have your senior cat’s blood pressure checked at least once a year.
Nutritional Counseling
There are many reasons, sometimes it’s just because they are less active and sleep more causing some muscle loss. But, diseases such as kidney disease, diabetes, hyperthyroidism, and gastrointestinal disease can all start with just weight loss so it is very important to seek veterinary advice if you notice weight loss.
Comprehensive Examination
Regular wellness exams are one of the most important things you can do to keep your cat healthy. We recommend wellness exams at least once a year until the age of 10. Once your cat reaches 10 years of age, we recommend an exam every six months.

Illness Treatment

Parasites Treatment and Control
Fleas can jump up to about 20 feet and can get inside on people’s shoes and clothes or on a dog that goes in and out of the house. The flea prevention we recommend is Revolution Plus which also protects against heartworms (spread by mosquitos), roundworms, hookworms, ticks, and ear mites.
Pain Management
We will ensure your cat is pain free during and after surgery. Your pet will be sent home with pain medication to be given orally for several days afterward. Most surgeries require your cat to be quiet and calm until they are fully healed and any sutures can be removed. Sutures are typically removed 10-14 days after the procedure at no additional charge.

Skin Condition and Allergy Treatment
Some cats have a flea allergy and will develop severe skin problems due to fleas. While fleas do not live directly on people, they can bite people and cause redness and irritation to the skin. Fleas can carry some infectious diseases such as tapeworms and cat scratch disease

Feline Retro Virus Treatment
VACCINATIONS: We recommend vaccinating for Feline Rhinotracheitis/Feline Calicivirus/Panleukopenia (FVRCP) and Rabies. Outdoor cats should also receive the Feline Leukemia Virus vaccine. We follow the AAFP’s guidelines for vaccinations. Vaccinations are only done with an examination by a veterinarian to ensure your cat is healthy enough to receive vaccines. Vaccine Brochure

Thyroid Disease Treatment
Once per year, we recommend performing full blood work (including a complete blood count, organ function tests, and thyroid level), a urinalysis, and a blood pressure measurement. These tests give us an overall picture of your cat’s health and screen for the most common diseases that older cats get such as Chronic Kidney Disease, Hyperthyroidism, and Diabetes.

Veterinary Surgery
We provide complete medical care including preventive care, early detection and treatment of disease, dental care, and surgical care.
Declawing
We do not offer declaw surgery at this practice. Please read below or give us a call for some helpful suggestions if your cat is demonstrating unwanted scratching.
Spaying and Neutering
We recommend neutering a male cat by six months of age. This is about the time male cats can start to spray and show more aggression.

Grooming
We provide limited grooming services by appointment including nail trims and sanitary shaves. We also offer full body shave downs for cats that are very matted and require sedation.

Small Animal Vet
Dr. Cacciottoli graduated from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine in 2013. As a student, she gained experience with several of the top feline veterinarians across the country and honed her knowledge and expertise in feline medicine and surgery. Shortly before graduation she was given the Stuart Clark-Price Memorial Feline Compassion Award that is given to the senior student that has demonstrated the most compassion and care towards feline patients. She started out as a small animal vet in Dayton, Ohio, but her long time passion for cats drove her to pursue feline only practice.
