I LOVE Pets in the City! (and Kramer, too) I shop here frequently for my dog and my three cats. In addition, I shop here for my clients. Pets in the City has dog and cat food that some other reviewers call "High end" but I feel that is somewhat derogatory. The food that Pets in the City sells is better for your pets because it is food that has been carefully sourced by the owners and staff for quality: quality protein sources, no additives or preservatives, no extra dye in the food, no extra fillers, quality carbs, raw diets if that's what you prefer. Many of the foods are grain free, novel proteins, or low in phosphorus (for kidney failure patients). They even have vegetarian food that is low in protein (also a plus for kidney failure patients). They have quality toys for cats and dogs that don't fall apart in a week. Everything in this store is QUALITY, which means you might pay a little more BUT it's going to be healthier for your pet, or last longer. You get what you pay for you know. Since Pets in the City moved from Soulard to Grand/44, it is closer to my house in Tower Grove South. The parking has never been issue for me. I simply park on Castleman and walk around the corner. No big deal. If I have a lot to carry back to my car, a staff member (even if it's the manager or owner) will offer to help me out to my car with my purchases. The staff has always offered help, even when they were located in Soulard - so this is nothing new. The staff has been great: helpful, knowledgeable; even comic relief at times. Kramer, the shop cat, can be a little sassy, but he's old so I let him get away with it. :-) There is a bus stop right in front of the store, so if you are one of those wonderful people cutting down on oil use, you can rest assured that you can get to Pets in the City with ease. It's right off a major highway (44) as well. I love supporting small businesses, especially a business like Pets in the City. I recommend them to friends, neighbors, and clients all the time.

We had a lab for 10 years that past away the weekend before Christmas and our hearts were broken.....We wanted to get another dog that our 6 month old daughter could grow up with just like my wife and I did as kids so we decided to rescue a puppy from Jewell Animal Hospital in St. Louis from Dr. Judy. We drove 2 and a half hours and we picked out our new puppy Moo (Who is spotted just like a cow : ) From start to Finish Dr. Judy went above and beyond our expectations in explaining what to look out for in our new puppy's early life especially since the entire nature of what she does there is rescue animals (from all across the country that need a home and may other wise die or be euthanized with out people like her non profit organization) no matter where they come from and there are possibilities they may have health issues because of that very reason. She is truly a professional and the Best Veterinarian that we have ever been to. My wife and I discussed several times now after having Moo for the last month how much we wished she was local to our home. She went out of her way during the adoption, in setting up the insurance and microchip information for Moo, and during the last month answer any questions that we have called her about. I am not usually one that does online reviews, however I have read a 1 or 2 bad reviews that all most made me shy away from going here and didn't want that to happen to anyone else....I would have to believe these people are the type that no matter what you do for them, they are never happy. Dr. Judy has a real passion that shine's through, and she really cares about what she does there. Rest Assured, Go here and Adopt one of Dr. Judy's wonderful little rescue's and there is no doubt you will have a wonderful experience!!!!!! Thank You for our Moo!!
I first met Dr. Raymond while I was fostering a dog through rescue organization named “Dogs Deserve Better”. I had NO CHOICE but to go to Dr. Raymond for my foster dog’s medical health, because the rescue organization was linked to Hampton Animal Hospital. Eventually I adopted by foster dog Scooby. My first intention was to take my newly adopted dog to my prior veterinary who took previous care of prior deceased dog which I had for 13 years. My prior veterinary took wonderful care for him during his 13 years. HOWEVER, I saw how Dr. Raymond performed with my foster dog Scooby for a year and I was very IMPRESSED. My Scooby, can be a very intimidating dominating canine, but Dr. Raymond did not shy away and was WONDERFUL with Scooby. Therefore, I NOW fell very COMFORTABLE with Dr. Raymond taking care of newly adopted dog Scooby for his entire canine life. Nothing but “HIGH PRAISES” for Hampton Animal Hospital with Dr. Raymond and his staff!! :-) From Joe R and Scooby
We adopted two kittens from Family Pet Hospital in late Spring. Since shots and neuters were included in the price we have returned for these services. We were very impressed when after some questions, we were directed to the perfect kittens for our household. The office staff was very respectful to our kittens and us. Since our adoption, we have returned for shots. Dr. Peckham is our vet and we couldn't be happier! She is very personable and is very thorough in her evaluations of the kittens. She has a cheerful, warm bedside manner. I would highly recommend people to visit in order to adopt kittens/cats as some kill shelters contact them before they euthanize. To my understanding, they make sure the cats are healthy for a few weeks before they are even available to adopt. Even if you aren't looking for a new furry friend but just an awesome, clean place to bring your animals this would also be the perfect recommendation!
My dogs love coming here. This location has the cabana rooms which have a small private outdoor run attached, so the dogs can go in and out as they please. They also allow my 3 small dogs to be boarded in the same room (extra charge per dog) which I really like. The staff here treats my dogs so well; over the many years I have taken them here-they have formed attachments to some of the long time staff. My dogs always come back happy from their stays here. At this location, you can drop off before hours for a small charge (I've had to drop them off at 3:30 am before a trip before) and you can also pick them up after hours for a small charge. I love this feature, and so no longer worry when my flights are delayed. They are in a location which is very convenient to the airport, so even though these is a location much closer to my house, this is the one I use.
My long-haired Coton de Tulear has been coming here since he was a puppy and they have always done a fantastic job with him, keeping him neat and elegantly trimmed in his puppy cut every few weeks. Even when he made a mess of himself and had to be shaved, they spent hours trying to save his beautiful coat before having to go the shaved route. Set up a regular appointment and even your difficult to care for dog will be the handsomest dog on the block.
We used Pleasant Valley Kennels for 12+ years. Our dogs always enjoyed staying at PVK. Each dog has his own indoor kennel as well as his own outdoor run. The runs are very large and the dogs can access the runs when they want. The runs provide your dog the ability to get fresh air and get some exercise. One of our dogs needs daily medications and the staff always ensured that the medicine was given as prescribed.
I have been a customer her for many years. I go back to the 80's. I've purchased foods and other products. I have had my dog groomed and and boarded a dog there once. I have even done some training years ago with the owner and once with a guy the owner recommended for Schutzhund training. The owner allowed us to train on their property. I have nothing but good things to say about doing business with them.
We used Kennelwood for boarding and grooming of our dogs. Kennelwood is very professional and you know your pets are in good hands. The quarters for the pets are good sized and kept clean. We also used Kennelwood for one-on-one dog obedience training for a challenging and active dog. The training was very successful and both we and our pet are happier.
Connie took in my pup on short notice. He was super young at the time and she even fashioned a sling to carry him in to keep him warm. Scor loved going there and he was too young to keep at home, we continued going back there for months! Connie is always pleasant and the love of animals can be felt.
