How many time's can anyone say that this has happened to them. I was in St.Louis for the ICRS convention when one of my clients asked to take our staff to dinner. Since I am original from St. Louis they asked if I could make the reservations or recommend someplace since all of the places they called were closed on Sunday's. Called Sanfilippo's because they showed they were open on Sunday's when Major C's were in town. Took it to mean conventions, when I called I actually spoke with Joe the owner who thought that the convention didn't open until Monday. Let him know that most people would be coming in on Saturday and Sunday. He took my cell number, talked to his staff called me back to say he would OPEN FOR US. The service was Great, the food even Better. Way to go Joe, you have now become a new favorite on my list. My family lives here so I will be back. Great service desires to be rewarded. If you are in the downtown area for a Cards or Rams game make this a necessay stop. I can't say Thank You enough!!! for making the evening wonderful for us.

Some friends told us about this place about 3 years ago. It's one of those places that people in the neighborhood know about, but few others. The three things I like about it are: 1) Their house salad dressing is amazing. I'm not a big salad person, but crave salad once in a while...and my favorite dressing by far is the house dressing at Ami's. We always ask for extra dressing and they bring it at no charge. 2) The place is rarely crowded except on Friday/Saturday nights around 6-7pm. The get a regular crowd on some nights, but we can usually walk in and sit down without much of a wait. So if we are in a hurry but don't want fast food, this is where we go. 3) We usually have pizza which is very good, regardless of whether you get deep, thick or thin. You can tell the ingredients are fresh...and it is a little like Chicago pizza. The other food is very good too, though I've only tried a couple of the pastas. Don't tell too many people...I don't want to have to start waiting 30 minutes for a table!!
Hey, i'm not a profesional food critic, so i won't try to tell you how anything "should be" I have been going there for years for lunch & I bring my family for dinner. I think they have great food! For lunch I get the Herb Chicken with pasta & a vegetable for $8.50 tax included. When i go with my family, I always get the Hill pizza, ( i'ts not the usual pizza you get everywhere you go.. it has a crispy crust and they use provolone instyead of mozzarella.) My wife always gets the Chicken Parmesan. the kids like that they get an ice cream bar.. lol. I think what I like most is that they don't pretend to be something that they are not.. they just serve great food and i have become freinds with many of the staff. It's always fun to go there.. don't expect a fake "Hello, How do You do Sir"...instead ecpect to experience a working italian restaurant thru & thru... Like i said, i don't prtend to be some expert.. i just tell it like it is!
Sometimes you just can't beat the appeal of a hole-in-the-wall storefront restaurant. When you find one that works, you're almost guaranteed to have a culinary resource that few people know about. Ami's is just such a spot. The wait staff is friendly without ever trying too hard. They make you feel at home and like a valued customer all at once. Order anything and you will get a huge amount of food. Their rigatoni con broccoli is a creamy delight, while the pizza has a great chewy crust with the right amount of give and crunch. Ami's has great, filling food you'll want to keep to yourself; but find that it's so tasty you just can't keep quiet about it.
Rigazzi's isnt like most of the restaurants on the hill. Here you wont find the stuffy atmosphere and high prices but instead a fun filled evening with a light atmosphere. The food at Rigazzi's is simply excellent (I recommend the Bakes Pasta Pepperonata or the Chicken Mary) Food always tastes wonderful even more than what i was expecting. The pasta dinners come with salads and under 20 bucks even with a drink (try that at giovanni's) lol My uncle has been going to Rigazzi's since the 70's and eating the fried chicken... I have personally never tried it but he swears to it. Good service food and prices....5 Stars!
The menu is extensive, and I have tried about half of the offerings. I have never been disappointed. The sauces are excellent and the ingredients are fresh. EVERYONE leaves with a doggie bag; that is how big the portions are! The wine list ranges from the wonderfully affordable to really expensive. They do a five ounce pour as opposed to most restaurants which give you between 3oz. to 4oz. The service is superior...water glasses are always filled promptly. Whenever I have out-of-town company I take them to LoRusso's...and then Ted Drewes for dessert...you just have to do that. Their desserts are excellent however.
This place is where you need to go if you too love pasta. They have so many varieties and some are hand made pasta. The atmosphere is so "proper" and divine, but ANY one willing to splurge a little will enjoy this spot. The food is always fresh and the service is great too. I tried their Hot Apple Cider martini...quite interesting and refreshing as a fall favorite. I would definitely recommend this place to any/all. I'm surprised they aren't easily found on your website. I would have thought they would have stood out, like their restaurant does in Plaza Frontenac.
Very good spaghetti! However, I wouldn't get the plain ole meat sauce as it's kinda boring, and kinda too expensive for just pasta and meat sauce (i can make it at home and would taste close to the same), however their sauce is exceptional. I tried my god-mom's pasta and YUMMY! of course i can't remember what kind she had, but it was really good. I ate all mine up too. The place is neat looking, loved the layout. would definitely come there again. Might bring my rehearsal dinner party there to eat. wow i'm getting hungry just thinking about it.
The food is good and plentiful. The hosts and wait staff go above and beyond, but during my wait, I noticed that a white group with NO reservation was seated, while a black family with a reservation was left to wait. The white group was belligerant, and asked for a manager which the host brought out. They were profane, and the white manager seated them immediately. The black family ended up leaving. Sad to see that racism is alive and well in St. Louis. This ruined my impression of an otherwise great restaurant.
My fianc'e and I were hungry while touring the hill and found Mama Campisi's. The owner greeted us at the door with a smile and we were seated right away. The prices were wonderful as the portions, we left paying less than $30 and with a doggy bag. The chicken lasagana was the best thing I have ever tasted. And the staff was wonderfully attentive. In the spring we have now decided to have Mama cater our wedding and to have the reception in their banquet hall. We could not be more happy with out experience!!!!!!!!!
