So today, was my first time inside The Grove Deli. My Mom frequents this establishment, often. Whenever, we are having lunch together at her house, this is usually where she stops. However, today, I did the running. Here's my first physical experience with The Grove Deli. So my Mom, told me exactly where it was located. She stated, they had two doors to enter. So I arrive at approximately 4pm, go to the first door and it's locked but I can see employees inside and the sign says, it's open till 5pm. I thought, well maybe they were having some issues with the door or something. There was no sign posted about closing early so I went to the next door and found it unlocked. So I enter, go up to the counter to place my order. At the counter, there was a young lady that appeared to be cleaning & a man behind the counter. This is when it all goes REAL WRONG. I think, I'm getting ready to order but the man looks at me an asks, "what, a locked door doesn't mean anything to you"? I say, "excuse me, what"? He says, "we're closed. A locked door doesn't mean anything to you? I said, "Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't realize". Then he says, "we ran out of food. Sorry". The young lady also says, sorry. Now I don't know if she was also apologizing for the lack of food or for him. However, the apology from him, should of come, for being completely rude. Not for being out of food. Next, there should of been a closing early sign on the door. Finally, the second door should of been locked too. Needless to say, I called my Mother & had this say. I will NEVER be, hungry enough to eat food from The Grove Deli. Please do not ever, pick food up, for me, from there. It will be a waste of your money. I will throw it in the trash. Now, I ain't gonna lie. Whenever, my mom would call me, and ask, where I wanted food from, The Grove Deli was usually a top pick. It is not now, nor, will it be, again, for 5 years. I'm not a person who likes to eat out a lot so when I find a place that's clean, has good food and service, it's a treat for me because most places do not offer all of these things. I liked The Grove Deli for all these reasons, so I thought. I obviously needed to go inside for myself. Clean, yes. Good food, yes. Customer Service & respect, NO! They just lost a customer. The only thing, that should of came out of his mouth was, "I'm sorry. We're closed". Instead of disrespecting me over his own error. This same review will be available on as many websites as I can possibly get it on. Sincerely yours Pissed Webster Resident.

Lots of positive changes since the new ownership. The name of the restaurant is now Pumpernickles Delicatessen. I have eaten here before and after the new ownership change, April 2012. The restaurant has gone through a renovation, new booths, new table tops and chairs. The bathrooms are brand new and very clean. The decor is very comfortable with a contemporary look and feel. Deals - I've been there on Sunday's and Monday's when the restaurant is pretty busy. Monday they offer a great deal: 1/2 off the price of a Non-Specialty sandwich with the purchase of a beverage. Pick Two offered anytime and another good deal. - I've had the chicken salad sandwich and it was very good. I usually get the "Pick Two", which is a 1/2 of sandwich and choice of soup or salad. I get 1/2 a chicken salad sandwich and the Mish Mosh Soup (basically a mix of most everything else in addition to the traditional chicken noodle soup) The soup is great. In addition to the chicken noodle soup, it has a matzo ball, kasha, and had pretty good chunks of pulled chicken. All for only $7.99 (add $1.00 for the Mish Mosh Soup). Other foods I've tried - The cheesecake is pretty darn good here. Corned Beef - Since the new ownership the portions have increased and even the slice of rye bread is a bit thicker. Corned beef sandwich is very good and enough meat to satisfy. Want more, then order the NY size. The basic sandwich is $8.50 and if you want all lean you can get it for a little more. The NY size sandwich is $13.50. Salami - I've had it and pretty good too. Smoked Fish - Bagels and Lox: I've had it and really good. They even have hand carved off the fish Nova lox for only an additional $1.00 when getting the platter; and the Nova lox platter is only $11.99. Comes with the normal sides of choice of bagel, capers, onion, cream cheese, and tomato.
I was craving a sandwich for breakfast: on the way to another Hill favorite of mine I took a wrong turn and ended up at the corner where this place is located. So I decided to try it. Glad I did: family run hole in the wall place, very friendly, large menu: I ordered the Salsicia plus Meatball sandwich, aka The Daddy: delicious. And huge. It was charming to get a glimpse of their family life: as I waited for my sandwich 'mom' dropped off some groceries for the kitchen then settled behind the counter to wait on customers.
We go here all the time and love, love, love them. Yes you do wait awhile so don't go when you have a schedule. This is a place to go with friends and enjoy an evening of GREAT AUTHENTIC FOOD, COOKED TO ORDER AND EXCELLENT SALADS. I love Tina and Nona they are great people and you will get some wonderful food like your grandma would have made you...or mine cause she cooked like a good Italian wife. Try it you will love the food and if your not in a hurry the slow service and waiting for your food won't bother you.
Went there for the first time today and was surprised by the food. I ordered the Reuben to go and was pleasantly surprised by the quality and size. The sandwich was delicious and was a large portion for the price. It was made with a lot of sauerkraut which is exactly how I like it. The bread was quality and still crispy which shows that it wasn't too greasy. Interested to try other items from the menu because it all looked pretty good. It was a nice first impression.
They have the best food for lunch!! They make great home style food like mom made you will not find this anywhere else!! They are a great caterer too they can do food for any party or wedding reception I have been to several receptions and everyone was so crazy about the food!
My husband ordered the turkey sandwich and I ordered the chili dog and both were delicious and full of flavor. We went on a Saturday and the place was jammed with customers, which is always a good sign. Highly recommend Blues City Deli for the good food and good experience!
Pickles Deli is authentic deli servings and quality! Boars Head Pastrami is the best! All meat is carved to order and fresh as can be! The owners are also the servers, and take great pride in their deli. Soups are awesome too. Try the Pretzel Roll with Pastrami! OMG!
I like this deli. Good sandwiches though a tad bit pricey they are of good size. I like the Philly Cheese Steak... they add cream cheese to it which adds a good texture to it. The soups are good there. The owners are very friendly.
More than enough for your money an delicious food! Reasonable priced for the downtown area! We got 2 sandwiches, one drink our bill was about $16.00. The sandwiches were big enough that we took half to eat later for dinner.
