Berrien County Trial Court operates criminal, civil and family divisions. Its criminal division handles adult misdemeanor and felony crimes. The court maintains drug and domestic violence sections. Berrien County Trial Court s civil division oversees cases related to driver s license restoration, small claims, landlord and tenant, civil and administrative agency appeals, and mediation and other alternative dispute resolution. The court also handles the cases of mental competency, juvenile delinquency, divorce and custody, adoptions, personal protection orders, and wills and estates. Its foster parenting program includes the short- and long-term placement of youths. Berrien County Trial Court is governed by the Berrien County government in Michigan, which operates animal control, personnel, building and grounds, purchasing, recycling and financial services departments.
