Kitchen Remodeling
Old and historic building often require reproduction of unique millwork including windows, doors, moldings and cabinetry. Our shop can remake or create any wood building feature.
Bathroom Remodeling
Preserve RI acquired the Philip Walker House in the late 1980s. The house remained vacant for close to thirty years until 2008 when a new directive from Preserve Rhode Island sought to make the house habitable again. Heritage was contracted to gut the 1960s kitchen and bathroom and make a few service upgrades. Yet after the kitchen and bathroom frame was exposed, we discovered a few significant issues.
Flooring
A building survey help owners understand their building. Our surveys starts with understanding the owner’s experience of the building, as well as how they expect to use and live with it. We carefully observe the conditions, using our staff and select contractors to document what is seen and what can be hidden deep. This “deconstructive analysis” can involve careful removal and reinstallation of parts such as trim, plaster, siding, flooring, etc. to help unravel the mysteries or damages of the house. Specific analysis such as Window Surveys can help a homeowner or a historic district committee understand the age, condition, and function of the window units, to help determine the feasibility of their repair and/or restoration.
Door Installation/Replacement
Maintaining old, existing historic windows and doors is the most cost-effective, longest-lasting approach, period. Storm windows and doors are a fraction of the cost of replacement systems, can make them efficient, and last just as long.
Framing
The frame of a building is essential, supporting all architectural elements and inhabitants; thus, it’s vital that it is maintained and well constructed. New England’s old homes have a variety of framing techniques, including timber frame, balloon frame, and platform frame. Our team develops a repair plan using traditional styles and modern techniques to create enduring structural repair to maintain the integrity of the historic building.
Fireplaces
The floor plan of the original house was modified at that time, converting the original four-room plan into one side, becoming a single sitting room. The room included fireplaces on either end, and the other side became a dining room and library. With each modification, the original design received more contemporary features. The interior and exterior designs are modest, with a simple elegance to the fenestrations and interior moldings.

New Construction
Heritage Restoration, Inc was founded in 2001 by Robert Cagnetta to provide construction services specializing in the care and maintenance of old and historic buildings. From the detailed-oriented work of finish restoration to building manipulation and reconstruction, Heritage honors historic structures by identifying innovative ways to provide effective and sustainable building interventions.
Foundation Installation

Window Installation/Replacement
Working under the direction of the President and COO of Heritage Restoration, Inc. This position is responsible for shop, tool, and machine maintenance, fulfilling work orders from the field and window and door shop, pulling and installing doors, assisting with window pulls and installs, etc.
Gutters
New England has one of the most challenging weather environments in the country. Roofing, flashing, and gutters offer the most significant protection from the elements. A roof can be 100 degrees on one side and -20 on the other, with ice, snow, and water all on the same day.
Siding
The family was a recipient of the 2022 Rhody Award Homeowner Award, where Heritage Restoration, Inc completed a comprehensive makeover of the exterior repairing and replacing siding, flashing and other functional and playful parts of this polychromatic stunning Queen Anne. This unique Victorian in Providence that hadn’t seen significant repair of the exterior since it was built in 1898. The restoration preserved existing materials and reproduced what was damaged or missing through a comprehensive 6-year plan developed by the homeowners.
Residential Roof Repair
Heritage offers a wide range of exterior services and works closely with specialized subcontractors such as roofing, masonry, and gutters. Properly sided buildings, with well-orchestrated drainage planes and carefully placed flashing, can last for a century or more.
Residential Roof Replacement/Installation
Heritage was contracted to repair, restore, and modify the exterior, while the primary elevations remain unchanged. Exterior work included extensive repairs and restoration, including a roof replacement. In addition, we repaired the wooden gutter and fabricated and installed new third-floor casement windows.

We are equally committed to making older buildings energy efficient through various methods, such as installing energy panels (storm windows), insulation techniques, air sealing. We identify what is needed by utilizing advanced diagnostic testing methods.
Masonry
Masonry is one of the most durable construction methods, often lasting hundreds of years. We work with experienced masons and stone workers who understand what old buildings need. During the evaluation, we identify structural repairs, such as shoring up a sagging porch or repointing a drafty foundation. Alongside engineers and building inspectors, we craft a custom plan that draws from traditional applications, like lime plaster and modern technologies.
