- Cherokee County Electric Cooperative Association was started in 1939 to provide power to rural customers. The cooperative serves parts of Cherokee, Smith, Rusk and Nacogdoches counties, Texas. It has more than 2,900 miles of line averaging 5.4 meters per mile of line for a total of more than 17,000 meters. By definition, a cooperative is a self-governing association of persons united voluntarily to meet their common economic, social and cultural needs and wishes through a jointly owned and democratically controlled enterprise. Cherokee County Electric Cooperative Association is located in Rusk, Texas.
