My husband and I are not first time campers but we are first time campers with owning a 34 ft. class A motor home. Because one of our daughters lives in Rockford, Illinois, we had her check out some RV campgrounds for us. She gave us some names and we chose Blackhawk for all the amenities it offered. To say we were pleased with our choice would be an understatement. We liked it so much that we went there three more times between Sept and Oct. Absolutely friendly people, so many activities for children and adults, clean, and we felt well managed. The first weekend we stayed the campers were having a money raising event for another camper who has cancer. The next time we were there they were having a "chili" cook-off. So Fun!!!! We cannot wait until we can go back next Spring. If I had to give a suggestion for improvement, I would say it would be that you cannot be promised a certain site. The mgm't tries to get you the site you wish but due to so many people wanting the primie spots it is hard to get more than one camper in the same site. Gets a little crowded. If I could rate a zero I would. I'd had booked two campsites next to each other, at a specific location in the campground. I called in April to reserve these two locations. I had to pay one nights deposit for each, so $60 at the time. My friend had booked sites there as well, as we were all going the same weekend. She was having some issues with her sites the week we were going camping, and there was some confusion. So I called in to clear anything up, which was the week we were supposed to go camping.When I called in I spoke with an Elanor, she could not find my reservation and said that the camp sites I reserved already had somebody on it who could not move. I requested that the manager call me so I can clear this up. No call, but Elanor called me back, and she was super rude and inpatient with me. They found my reservation under a different name. But the sites I requested were not available. She said they do not guarantee sites. I requested a call from manager again.Two days later I get a call back but from someone else, not the manager. She states that they guarantee a site but never guarantee requested sites. That when I booked, they should have wrote do no move on the paper work, how am I supposed to know that. Then I say ok, I understand you policy, but why was I not called to advise that site was not available. I booked in April, it is now July, that would have given me time to see if I wanted to go somewhere else on the campground or cancel all together. I am now out of the 5 day cancel range to get a refund. She told me that they don't do that an any campsite does. This is not true because I camp a lot. I would have canceled right there but my friends had shopped and spent a lot of money.So we went that weekend. They were very rude, once they knew who I was. Did not offer any kind of compensation. I chose two new sites that were near each other, but not next to each other. Then, they only allow two adults to each site. One friend was leaving, the next day and another friend coming in. They made a huge deal about it, and tried to charge extra for her. I have been camping many places, never experienced the treatment I have at this place. My suggestion drive a bit further, and get a better experience at campsites in surrounding areas!!
