Overall

I have had an awful week and the last couple of days have been especially horrible. I know when you have a parent that is dying, it is VERY easy to be labeled as an overbearing family member, or that you are in denial about the dying process, but really what the last few weeks have boiled down to is REALLY HORRIBLE CARE provided by a TERRIBLE hospice agency. I trusted them, I was sold a box of lies. VNA hospice have made a really difficult situation soooooo much worse. I cannot begin to go into the level of incompetency that has been doled out on my family. I cannot imagine what it must be like for someone who doesn't know any better, and just accepts all the BS they tell you as the truth. When your stage 4 cancer and your pain pump runs out of morphine at 4 am, it shouldn't take a nurse 5 and a half hours to get to the house to help. THEN to have the machine run out of batteries a couple days later, NEVER checking that she is taking the proper doses of medication (She was taking too much of one med because they never reconciled her previous medications from prehospital, until i asked) , NOT monitoring her weight loss (She has lost 20 lbs under there care) or bringing in a dietician when it could've made a difference. Thats only a sample of the mistakes that have been made over the last 40 days. When I confronted them with my issues, they insinuated that my brother was feeding me misinformation, and then the director flat out lied to me about care my mother NEVER received. When id finally had enough, and decided to switch companies yesterday, I called and made it clear we were transferring her. I found a much better Hospice company,(Thank you Heartland Hospice) but they couldn't just walk away, they harass my mother over the phone, who at this point can barely speak over a whisper, and needs oxygen if she goes over two sentences, but they insist she speak to them. This made her VERY uncomfortable and she should never have to feel in the middle of anything! So please share my experience with whomever you can and tell anyone you come across that there are SEVERAL Hospice agencies to choose from in this area and I would be more then happy to relay my personal experience. VNA is terrible, I wouldn't wish them on my worst enemy.
