I've been using them for years. It really is the best way to get from Rockford to both of the airports in Chicago. The prices have gone up in recent years but I guess that's the case with anything nowdays. The service is good and I have never missed a bus. Uber and Lyft are very expensive for this service because of the distance and I don't want to inconvenience my friends and family so I just do this. Parking at the location is relatively safe I think and costs less than $5 a day. I have never parked there personally as I get dropped off to the lot on the East side.
If there was a zero rating, this is what I would give this bus. Not only was it 1 hour late which was understandable due to weather but we were held up sitting in Ohare for almost 2 hours to go to Rockford to wait for another bus with Rockfird passengers so they can free up a bus for charter service! I called the manager and not only was he the rudest person I have spoken with but he said that all flights at Ohare were shut down, the roads are blocked to Rockford which were all lies and said I was lucky to be sitting in the bus vs some airline! This has got to be the worst customer service I have experienced ever!
I've used Van Galder several times traveling back and forth between Rockford and Chicago. Usually, I have no issues traveling. I can't say that I enjoy it, but it's not miserable either. Then came last Saturday. My husband and I were coming back from a late flight to my parents' house in Rockford. We were tired, it was late, and we just wanted to go to bed. My father bought us two one-way tickets on van galder's website for $25 each. We had no means to print them, but I had the email on my smart phone and had written down all of the information contained on the ticket for the driver. There's nothing to scan on the ticket, only a confirmation number. Despite everything, the driver refused to let us on board without a print copy of the ticket. We had to buy an additional ticket on the bus. The driver told us we could contact van galder for a refund. I was told today that there are no refunds given, and I could send in a print copy of my ticket via mail to receive a ticket that can be used to travel any time between midway and Rockford (which I've only done this one time and don't foresee doing in the future - I usually board downtown). I will not be using van galder ever again. Though the train to Harvard is a bit more inconvenient, it is so much nicer than these buses.
BAD SERVICE - Missed my stop in Rockford. I was told the stop was by request only. The schedule on the company internet site I printed failed to to list my stop as a request only and the response from the staff was I should have gotten my schedule from the office not the internet??? What kind of response is that?
Let me start out by saying you guys provide EXCELLENT service. Your service is always up and running, and whenever I call your company you always answer. The voice on the phone is PROFESSIONAL, POLITE AND VERY HElPFUL .Your company saved my families Christmas. My husband was planning to travel by Greyhound from Chicago to Rockford Il he arrived at the terminal 2 hrs early and was sold a ticket.10 minutes before departure time they cancelled his bus on Christmas eve.I was already in Rockford , so I called VanGalder and right away I was informed that a bus would be leaving the Amtrak station in 15 minutes headed for Rockford.My husband was able to catch it and be here for the family & friends Christmas eve party.
