Cryotherapy
A retinal tear may occur after an episode of flashes and floaters (see below), but it may also have no symptoms at all. A tear occurs when the clear vitreous gel within the eye shrinks and separates from the back of the eye with enough force to tear the retina at a point of adherence. A resulting tear or hole is of concern because it allows a path for clear vitreous fluid to collect and spread underneath the retina, leading to a retinal detachment. When detected early, a retinal tear may be treated with laser or cryotherapy, both of which greatly reduce the risk of a retinal detachment.

Cataract Surgery
Dr. Miller was the first surgeon in the Rockford area to offer two revolutionary advancements in the treatment of cataracts. One of these is the highly successful ReSTORÂ® multifocal intraocular lens (IOL) for cataract patients. Prior to the advent of this treatment option, the vast majority of patients who had undergone cataract surgery received monofocal lenses, which typically requires the patient to wear eyeglasses for distance vision and bifocals for near vision following their surgery. The goal of multifocal lens surgery is to restore your ability to read the newspaper, prescription bottles, mail, drive a car, or participate in your other favorite activities, all without glasses. The second of these advancements, for patients with high levels of astigmatism, is the Toric IQ astigmatism correcting implant that can be used with a very high rate of success for achieving distance vision without glasses. Allergy testing at Miller Eye Center starts with an easy, painless 15 minute allergy skin test. Hereâ€™s how it works: the skin test introduces small samples of particles from the environment in droplet form to the skin on your arm. These particles, called antigens, are most likely causing your symptoms. The test covers 64 of the most common allergic sources found in Illinois. If you are allergic to the antigens in the droplets, small bumps will appear on your skin in the test area, and that spot will feel itchy and irritated.
